The hostess with the dreads said she didn’t see my reservation. No smile. No welcoming vibe. She did mention the dress code. Once I showed her my reservation confirmation we still had to wait. She called another name from my party which confirmed that she didn’t select my reservation. I felt like we were a problem. Our server was slow. We were her last table and I just felt like she was over it. Our drinks were on E for 75% of the time. Being an employee of the company, I know the “Benihana Way” and it was not fulfilled. I felt like she knew she would receive her grat regardless so we were not important. Thank you to Jason our chef for ensuring we had a memorable experience. Upon departure our server and another server asked my position and when they found out, they made it a point to remind me that I had no clue how hard it is to be a server. Never returning. This place needs training across the board on people skills, attentiveness, and courtesy. The prices are too high to have anything less than 100% Service. We were there for the EXPERIENCE. And it overall sucked.

My best friend was having a birthday that night and she had never been to Benihana. I wanted to give her the experience of having the famous show and ultimately a good meal with other diners. The other diners at our table was really the only enjoyable part of the night. The staff took a long time to take our order to begin. The chef came later and didn't do any tricks at all except to light some really sad looking onions on fire. He didn't do the volcano trick, the shrimp toss, the fried rice pumping heart or really anything else. I felt bad because that's really why anyone goes to Benihana, the interactive show. He even forgot to cook our shrimp appetizer until I reminded him. I ordered a tofu spicy steak. The chef came out with a small container with a good amount of hot sauce and just poured it over a slightly heated limp piece of tofu. It just tasted like hot sauce without anything to refresh the palette, it was inedible really. I made everyone aware it was my friend's birthday but no one sung her a happy birthday song after I said it 3 times! The chef left and at this point we just wanted the check so we could end this horrible experience. It took 15 minutes to receive our check, just for it to come out wrong! Another 10 minutes gone. We finally leave and we are waiting for our car to come out of valet when a waitress comes downstairs frantic for security to come solve what I assumed to be a fight with some customers upstairs. The security guard ends her conversation with someone and says, "Hold on I gotta beat a B A** real quick." I can't make this up even if I tried. Literally the worst experience ever. The table we sat at was shoddy and our appetizer plates were never picked up so we had a pile of dirty dishes next to us the whole time like a low end buffet. Honestly, it would have been better to eat at home and order takeout from a nearby Asian restaurant at least we could have saved the gas and the ultimate headache.
It’s an annual tradition to go here for my daughters birthday and the last time 2 times we have been there our chef was boring but this time Wiskler (I think) was amazing. My daughter had a great time. Will definitely go back and will request that chef.
We are Benihana regulars. When we came in there was a party which had 3 loud and active kids. We asked not to be seated with them but once we were seated the hostess brought them over.
The seat we were given was next to a loud portable air conditioner which was blowing directly on me.
Begrudgingly the hostess agreed to move us but kept us standing while she sat other parties who arrived after us. I’m 66 and am the customer, I don’t come to a restaurant to be punished!
The chef was ok, not spectacular but ok, the server apparently had too many tables as the water glass was empty most of the time.
The zucchini arrived at the table pre chopped which is different than usual (my daughter commented that the other table had the normal zucchini).
I think that next time I will stick with the Coral Gables Benihana.
8:30 reservation for four people on a Monday night. We arrived at 8:15 and we were finally seated at 8:55 . Others walked in or had later Reservations and were seated ahead of us. It was dirty downstairs but we had a 3 year old and it was already so late we decided to stay. Walked upstairs to our table and it was at least 100 degrees upstairs. No warning. Everybody was sweating (including our chef who start cooking at 10am. He was nice and not his fault about the air or service. Food was pretty good but we took it home in Togo boxes and now we are too tired to eat. I wouldn't recommend this Benihana and I have been to at least 7 other city locations when I travel. Normally they are great .
Benihana has awesome food & most of the cooks have a great show. We love coming here for birthday dinners and would recommend it to anyone.
Made reservations and still had to wait almost 20 minutes. Hostess never even said hi or spoke when escorting us to the table. The waiter wasn’t much help and the experience which is the purpose of going there was completely absent. The “chef” came to the cooktop, didn’t speak or acknowledge anyone at the table. He just started cooking and did nothing else! He simply cooked, never spoke, never did anything with the presentation, nothing and the food was very average! Not the typical experience you expect from Benihana! Very disappointed!
Decent...waitress was very nice about making sure my meal was prepared gluten free...

I am very upset that my service was soooo bad. I waited 25 mins for our first set of drinks then anytime we wanted a refill it was 15 to 20 mins. We were eating our soup and salad whlie the chef was cooking and that never happens food was amazing but the server we had ruined my birthday

We weren’t overly pleased with our experience. It seemed rushed and not very friendly. The food was ok but not exceptional.
Family gathered for birthday. Service was extremely poor. We had to ask for water. Chef favored the other party. Chef was not entertaining at all. Check was brought without being asked and Dessert was not even offered!
This is the first time i have ever had a bad experience here i had a reservation for 330 ... the group i was supposed to be seated with the hostess asked me to wait and she would seat me with the next group of people who didn't even have a reservation... i did not like that .. i had to wait a whole hour to be seated and then had to wait a whole hour for food i didnt even get to eat i took 2 sips of my drink and left .. i paid for a drink i didnt even finish this is very upsetting

The services was really bad. The waiter must have been new. He didn’t know half the items on the menu by name. It took 30 min. for our drinks to get to the table. The appetizer got there after we were eating our entrees. It was just bad I almost felt sorry for the waiter he was like a deer in headlights.
Hostess was rude and the server was horrible. Sorry to be a negative Nancy but we were on a biz dinner and this place was a bad choice. Defiantly need to step up the hospitality

Worst organization ever, arrive at 9:20 for a 9:30pm reservation, waited to be seated until 10pm, waited at the table for a waiter to arrived for 25 minutes, waited for the chef until 11:20pm, chef never came to our table so we left without having dinner. I tried to pay for our soft drinks, receptionist went to get a manager and never came back, waited again 15 minutes and left, never going back
They forgot my GFs birthday at the end
Our service was awful. Awful enough to know that something was wrong. Being that I manage a restaurant I had to ask what was going on. Finding out after talking to the manager who may I add was lovely as can be even while in distress, it was due to a large party showing up with even more then expected. As a result pushing everything after that into unorganized chaos. I still would go back to Benihana for a second chance, mainly because I know how sometimes it’s the customer who is at fault. I give the manager Elizabeth credit for being able to not let it affect her personality. The food was good & that’s mainly why we came. Just wish that the service went along with it.

The smell of restaurant is very bad. And the chef did not do any special tricks that you pay for Benihana.
This location need a serious makeover. It is rundown and has a bad smell. The hostess are rude and unfriendly. The chef was amazing and so was the lady helping us at the table. Other than that it was not what it used to be. The place smelled stalled. The bathrooms are disgusting and another family at another table was so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves talk to one another. I wouldn't recommend this location at all. Again, the chef was amazing and food delicious
The lunch special is mainly the reason i go there all the times it is so unexpensive and the food is very good
The decor is so outdated and old therefore not a really clean place
Some of the staff at the sushi bar for exemple are awesome most of the rest of the staff is desorganised though trying their best
Need a nice clean up renovation and better management and would be over the top because the place is already always crowded like that!!

The food was delicious, the server and chef were great but the place is outdated, dirty and has a confusing distribution. We had to pass by a small and ugly hallway where the bathrooms were located to go to the bar. And come back the same way to go up to our table. To be located at Miami Beach I was not impressed with the place at all. Only great food and I would probably go back only for that. Not for the place or the consumer crowd at all.
Chef was entertaining and very friendly. Louis I believe. My date laughed the whole time and genuinely enjoyed herself.

I went to celebrate my birthday and I enjoyed my time especially going for the first time.
Service was horrible. Went there before and not a good experience. I live in Miami Beach and was driving to Fort Lauderdale to eat at Benihana, go right past the Miami Beach one. It is that bad. We had hair in the fried rice.
We really like Benihana and normally prefer to go to this location, and as far as the food is concerned, we are never disappointed. However, every time I request a table facing the window/ocean, I never get it. I always make a reservation, but it does not help. This last time, my wife's birthday, it was no different. The tables (at least two) that were available, were given to other people that arrived after us. Being this a special occasion, I did not want to make an issue out of it. The fact that is was a birthday was not even acknowledged by anybody at the restaurant.
Also, the hostesses are not friendly, the majority of the times.

Ahh...where to start
First off, it was Saturday night and always busy. There were no tables available around 7:30 is so we reserved at the only avail time slot of 6:45. A little earlier than what we usually like but since service and food typically take a while we were ok.
Our waiter was really not too pleasant. She appear to be new, no personality, no kindness just an order taker and not even great at that...but we love going to Beni Hana and we usually get much better service and attention but it happens
We got out soup the our salads really fast which scared us a little because we did not want to be dine by 7:30 on a Saturday night....plus we were with our friends celebrating our Anniversary
So after the quick one two of soup and salad...we waited for out chef...after about 20 mins, the manager came to tell us that they had forgotten to turn on the grill and that there would be about a half hour delay! He did mention that he would give us all a discount but a little annoying but we were in great spirits and company
Then when the finally started cooking, we all made sure to tell the chef that we wanted our Chateaubriand medium-rare and more towards rare than medium
When i saw him stat cutting the delicious pieces of meat into little tiny little bitty pieces, i told him that he was cutting too small and not to over cook it
He smiled, made the following order a little bigger but was cooking too long. I again to him to remove the meat from the hot grill but by the time he made our 4 orders...the meat was passed medium and not eatable
He agreed to make u only 1 order again but by this time it was 9:30, we had eaten most of our rice, all the veggies and our lobsters
What a disappointing evening. We got 1 comp meal but feel that it is not enough considering that none of us had a good time and service by waiter and chef was poor
