I was not to pleased with my chef. There was another couple seated at our table that he gave extra special attention to. First they did not order the fried rice and when he go thru cooking it, he have them some as well which cut down on how much my guest and I received. Also, he had some guy to go to the kitchen for him and brought out another try of shrimp and scallop and gave them double of what they ordered. Also, I order the 6 course which included mushrooms and he didn't cook any mushrooms at all. I normally have good service, but I was not happy that night.
Made reservations for my wife and I just a date night visit. Hostess sat us with a couple and their 4 kids! The meal was mediocre, nothing to write home about. We never seen our waitress again after ordering. The chef had to wave someone down just to get us drinks. At the end I tipped the chef with cash and left no tip on our meal ticket which was $89 by the way. A couple days later checking my online banking I was shocked to see that they had added gratuity! Guess they thought we were a party... Worst date ever.
I recently went to Benihana of Tokyo for the first time this century, with some family members, to celebrate my birthday. The food was tasty, the lunch menu was a good value, and the Tappanyaki chef did the usual showmanship. Service was a bit slow--the waitress could have had the salads out considerably earlier--but otherwise everything went smoothly. The atmosphere was good except that it feels a bit cramped in there; it may just be that the restaurant is working with a small space and a screwy layout. Overall, a nice place to go on special occasions, altho it's a bit too much time and money to invest for an ordinary business-day luncheon.
My wife, sons, and I had a great time celebrating my birthday. It has become somewhat of a tradition to celebrate my Birthday at Benihana. The Chef who prepared our meals must train the other Chefs as he was quick and efficient. He performed at a Michelin level.
This evening’s birthday dinner was great overall mainly due to excellent service from our waitress Shin and chef Tony. Both have been here for many years and are always highly recommended. My only minor complaint would be that the hostess area was a bit unprofessional telling waitresses they needed to swap with each other rudely in front of me as a customer. Also, I had specifically marked birthday on the reservation which was never acknowledged. However, I will still continue to visit since the restaurant seems to have improved considerably under the new management when compared to the disastrous past few years prior.
Brittany served us well. Somehow a lobster tail was left off our order, but she was able to adjust our bill so that we only paid for what we ordered, and gave my girlfriend's daughter some complimentary ice cream. The cook took care of us well. The only compliant I have is that we had a 7:00 reservation on a Thursday night, didn't get seated till 20 minutes later, and they didn't begin cooking until around 8:15. Perhaps the staff was short, a table went too long, or some other thing happened. It was inconvenient, but all-in-all a first-world problem. Wouldn't dissuade me from eating there again, for sure.

Which is 1hour and 45 min away so I decided to try their Memphis location because of its proximity (45 min). The restaurant had no real place to sit for any degree of privacy. And the one area that I saw that could have been suitable was filled with employees just sitting. The woman’s restroom was a mess with as previously stated ,employees just sitting in the area. I was on crutches and their were to many tables packed into one area which made it almost impossible to maneuver around to get to the restroom. The food was served on a plate with an upside down bowl of rice on it (not appetizing at all) the rice was under cooked the vegetables were almost nonexistent and the benihana punch was awful. My experience at Memphis was subpar at best certainly not worth 90.00. I was surprised because I love benihanas in North Little Rock Ark. I’ve never left without a 300.00 ticket at the end of the night. It has a small band/singer fresh sushi made to order and waitresses who take pride in their appearance. Finally i was surprised that Memphis benihanas was so crowded with people waiting on a table. Maybe they don’t know to expect better or that there’s a huge difference in Memphis vs what’s in North Little Rock. In the photos below the first is Memphis the second is North Little Rock . SMH.
Extremely over priced. The building and the atmosphere are dated and heavily in need of upgrades. You're paying luxury prices in a not so luxurious building. And they charge for fried rice and water. What the hell? I'll just stick to all the other hibachi options in Memphis.
This was my third visit within 3 weeks, and it was great from start to finish. I want to give special recognition to Shin for being an outstanding waitress and Stephen for cooking an excellent dinner. If these 3 recent visits are a sign, it definitely seems this restaurant is back on the path to better food, management, and service which is great to see after being a restaurant staple in Memphis for many years.
This was my second dinner within the last week, and it was just as good as the last. We were seated immediately at our reservation time and had Shin as our server and Tony as our chef. Both are excellent and have been here since I started coming to this location over 20 years ago it seems. The food was delicious as well, especially the cold water lobster tails and shrimp sauté. I will be back again soon!
Tony is awesome and our food was perfect although I was able to eat everything so either I'm more ambitious than I used to be or the potions were smaller. Bartender was very slow and both drinks I ordered were incorrect and the service was slower than in past visits.
On this particular visit, the entire experience was great! We were seated at our reservation time, service was friendly and efficient, and the cook was engaging with excellent food across all items. Lastly, the manager did stop by to ask how everything was going. Hopefully, this visit is a sign for the future and if so, I will continue to return!
