Benihana - Memphis
The server got our orders all wrong. The chef was nit entertaining enough. Very slow service.
The service has gotten so bad. I don’t even know why we go there anymore.
I was skeptical about going because the past few times service had gone to crap but, it looks they have hired more chef and things were great.
Went for my wife’s birthday. Service was excellent. Food was expertly and entertainingly prepared to perfection! Really love the fried rice!
sorry this restaurant has went down hill the hostess is very and we were seated quickly but the fod is now subpar not as good for the money, we had a new cook, which I understand sometimes that happens but he used so much oil on the grill the food tasted like that. I guess the good old days of this restaurant are gone cause the food is now subpar and the show at the table gone. Wish it wasn't this way but it is.
Great chef, service, presentation and food!!!!!!!!
My companion and I always have a great time at Benihana but last Monday was not the best. The chef's cooking abilities seemed to be amateur and the wait staff was a little unorganized with having a server in training. The food was not cooked to the usual liking; for instance, we both ordered steak for our meal and we both had too much fat attached to our cooked portions. It was rather disgusting to bite into steak and half of the cut was fat. Then I attempted to go to the restroom to and spit out a big piece of fat and there were no paper towels to dispose of it. Also, most of the entire table of guests did not receive all of the items (i.e. dessert) with the meals that we each purchased. It was not a terrible experience. The wait staff did wish me a Happy Birthday and offered dessert to me and that was thoughtful and special.
This restroom was filthy! The floors needed to vacuum badly. Our waitress was wonderful and this Manager was present and friendly.
We used to love going to Benihana, and was one of the top restaurant in Memphis.... but, when you walk in the door, the bad impression already has started... 4 restaurant staff members leaning on the hostess stand, looking at each other’s phones... Not having to wait too long for a table, but sitting there having to someone come around to take just a simple drink order took about 15 minutes. I can on about the service, but the waitress was just ok, very slow, and not really paying attention what people ordered. The chef was in his 7th week at the grill ( told us how he was trained in house at this location), and he did a fabulous job, but the price you pay.... no tricks or bells and whistles you usually get while at a $35 a person meal. Manager must have no control at all over staff.... Hate to say.... I give it a year and the restaurant will be closed down.
Their food is so loaded with salt and fat it is almost inedible.
Slow, slow, slow service. Not enough servers in the bar area. Took FOREVER to get my appetizer. Once I transitioned from the bar area to the hibachi table, there was still a long wait...food was good, service was super poor. It was a Tuesday evening, not a lot of people, in fact, they were only operating 6 hibachi tables this particular evening. It will be a while before I return. Got there at 6:45 PM, left at 9:37 PM.
The food was awesome! Although they have cut back on the chicken that goes into your rice, the cook was amazing!
Me and my fiance really enjoyed ourself. The food was amazing. The cook was very entertaining. The whole staff was very friendly. They really helped make her birthday spectacular. It was our first time eating there and we will be back again.
I love benihana! Great experience and fresh food. My waitress wasnt experienced. I asked for brown rice instead of white and she told me they never have served brown rice. Contradictory to her stance, I've had it there at the same location before a few times. Other than that I was very pleased! Our family loves it !!
I’m from NY originally and back home this is my favorite restaurant. This experience has made me rethink that and I don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon. The hibachi chef did not speak English so we were off to a rough start. The waitress was awesome very friendly and took our order timely however the chef could not read English as well so we all had to beg for our meal. He made us work. Slowly cooking each item to over cooked well done chewy perfection. And I’m pretty sure he almost didn’t make my order initially but I kept reminding him that I ordered food for myself as well as my son. The managers, servers and hosts all knew he did not speak English but sent him over to our table without anyone helping translate. It was an over priced disaster. I don’t think we’ll be come back.
I had money taken from me by a waiter and I wasn’t compensated at all for it. I got my money back
This benihana location was very disappointing from the quality of service to the seating and the food. I have been to several benihana restaurants and this is one location i will never return to . The manager did not even want to handle my complaint the food was very dry and the rice was hard.
Our chef was great, service was very poor. Seems as if management has let the place this location dip in service quality and overall customer satisfaction at our table was low. We love the food but for the price you pay, you should expect a better overall experience than what we had.
A bit of a disappointment...We made 5:30 reservations due to having two toddlers in our party and wanting to be respectful of other Friday night diners. We arrived 10 minutes early. Restaurant was about 1/3 full. Had to wait until well after 5:30 to be seated. Was after 6pm before orders were taken, and closer to 7pm before a chef appeared. The wait staff was very attentive and courteous, but seemed perhaps not enough chefs available for a Friday evening. The food we received was decent. The hibachi descriptions included mushrooms, but none were prepared.
Facility was not as clean and tidy as one would expect early in the evening. The restroom was a disaster with trash overflowing every receptacle possible of holding trash.
Probably better Japanese/Hibachi options in Memphis. We will try others before returning here.
Food is overpriced and small portions. It is absurd to charge 20+ dollars for a hibachi entree that comes with steamed rice and then charge $4.20 for actual hibachi rice. I will not be returning. Only reason I reason I went was because they sing happy birthday. I hadn't been in years and I won't be returning in the future I'd rather spend that $80 for two people on a steak dinner at a better restaurant.
We arrived at the restaurant for our reservation. The reservation was for 12:30 some of our guest arrived before others and were waiting inside. Once they were told half the party had to be inside in order to be seated or the reservation would be canceled. The rest of our party started to come inside only to be told that our reservation was already cancelled because half the party wasnt standing inside once the hostess stated half needed to be present at this time it is approximately 2 minutes after. After speaking to a manager who basically said they were busy with graduations and couldn’t guarantee our reservation and we would have a hour wait we decided to dine elsewhere
Service was abominable. Waited over an hr from seating to chef arriving at the table. Refills were slow as well. Won’t be back anytime soon.
Food was okay. Very bland. Our chef wasn't very engaging at all. If I had never been I would not have found it appealing. Service was great (ladies at the front and the lady who waited on our table were excellent). The atmosphere was very nice. I wondered if the food was just okay due to the chef or is it a norm to not season at all.
We were seated almost an hour past our reservation time. They were running way behind for all reservations. The girls at the check-in desk were great and were doing their best to keep people from being mad about the delay in seating. Once we were seated, it turned out to be the chef’s first night. While he did an adequate job on the food, part of what you pay for at Benihana is the tableside cooking experience, and he did not know any of the usual tricks that come with the Benihana experience. This is a very expensive place to eat, and we were very disappointed with the experience.
Food was incredibly good! So much better than other Japanese restaurants we frequent.
We had to wait almost 30 minutes past our reserved time.
We were there over 2 hours from start to finish. Our ‘cook’ was very slow, although we could tell he was well liked by staff. I was finished with rice before my steak was cooked and served. We were being handed our check before he even left the station. (We were finished.) All was good, we just hope we get another cook the next time we come.
Reservations were more than an hour behind. I had kids. 11 year olds. They say us across the table from a group of girls celebrating and getting drunked up. That is arguably understandable but one had a tee shirt with the "f" word on it. Bad judgment on her part but lack of thinking on restaurants part. Clearly it was one of those bad nights restaurants have but this was controlable and the shirt was obvious. Manager did take some off the tab but why do you want those pics all over social media if you are a restaurant that seeks families. Maybe if reservations were on time we would have missed it but while I am no prude, it was completely inappropriate and showed me a lack of thinking
Great service from the chef we had! Food was cooked wonderfully.
I waited and hour and a half just for a cheft to come to my table. They sat us down with no menus only the kids had menus. Took almost 45 mins to get menus and drink order. The cheft messed up on an order and we still had to pay for it. My order was not correct but after constantly speaking to someone about it, I gave up getting any help. I walked past a xlean table to get to my table and some kind of way whoever sat at that table had a chef and food before we did.
Great food!! Great place for a special event or everyday dining.
Everything was great. The table expressed how hungry they were and Able delivered our food quickly lol he’s a great chief one of my favorites 😁 and Brianna served as well as she always does.
My Overall Experience was Good, I thought the speed of starting up the dinner process was slow and the chairs were not comfortable at all. The menu was a bit pricey but the food taste was very good. I would recommend going , it was a nice change of pace for me.
We were there for Mother's Day. It was terrible!! We had a reservation for over a week and didn't get seated for 2 until 2.5 hours after our reservation. Once seated, the waitress took our drink/food order. After that, it was another hour before the chef even began to show up and cook. The chef didn't put on a show like we expected. The entire experience was terrible. I know it was a holiday but there's no reason for this. On too of it all, after speaking to the manager. He defended his business and showed no compassion or coupons for next visit. This place has run down and has terrible service. The front desk or greeters were unprofessional and goofing off the entire time. They were unorganized and could barely keep it together. There were 75+ people waiting in the lobby that day and it looked like there was nothing but new employees working that day. Short staffed, poor service, unprofessional, waiting time was outrageous and I will never go back. I've told all my friends and family about this and they show no interest in going back either. Hire more folks! Train them better!! And some some compassion when a customer comes to you about these issues. All the manager did was say it would have been a wait time like this anywhere on this Mother's Day and we can only do so much. That's a bunch of bull and your business is going down because you aren't fixing the problems or apologizing for this inconvience and terrible service. Don't go to Benihana's!! Go to Nagasaki, where they treat you like real guests!!
Great service and food. Waited an hour past our reservation time to be seated which was very disappointing, especially with young children. Host staff was terrible.
Our reservation was at 6:30 pm. We got seated at 8 pm. We ate at 9 pm.
Waited for two hours to be seated. Waited over a hour for the chef.
Staff did not greet us and rolled eyes at us when we said we had a reservation. We left without eating. I will never go there again.
My 1st time going and I loved it. The pot sticks was amazing.
Horrible experience. I waited 1hr 1/2 to get seated because they were 30 mins behind on reservations. And, waited an additional 45 mins waiting on the cook so I left
Finally sat down at our table an hour and a half after our reservations time...service slow...food mediocre...2:15 lunch ended at 5:30. I guess it was a value to get lunch and dinner all at once.
Reservation was at 2:15 and wasn’t called for our table until 3:00. By that time we had found a table in bar area and ordered food.
