Benihana - Maple Grove Ratings and Reviews
The food and overall experience was good. Our chef was great. However the service is extremely slow. We had reservations for 7:00 (arrived early) and didn't get seated until 7:30. After we were seated it took a very long time for our server to come to our table. He took our drink order and was gone forever until he came back with our drinks. It ended up being almost a two and a half hour experience. They need to fix the slow service in order for the experience to be worth the high prices.
We’ve been to Benihana on numerous occasions and had a very good experience, but this was not one of those times. We had a reservation (an early 5:30 one at that so the restaurant was not yet busy), yet waited 1/2 hour to be seated. Once seated, it was 45 more minutes before our chef joined the table. The chef didn’t do all the parts of the “cooking show” that you typically see at Benihana, and seemed more intent on just getting the food cooked and getting out than the showmanship aspect of it. Additionally, he heavily doused the chicken fried rice in soy sauce, yet put no soy sauce on the vegetables. They forgot the white rice for my two children, and when I requested it, they brought out one single bowl for them to share. I’ve never had a bad experience at Benihana before, but if this had been my first time, I wouldn’t go back.
First of all, We love Benihana’s. Unfortunately our past visit on February 16, 2018 was extremely unpleasant. Our server was nice and tried to make the situation better but he couldn’t. We were made to sit under an open vent even when the air outside was -3 degrees. Our chef was mediocre at best - very messy and our food was flying everywhere. The cold air caused our feed to be cold before we could eat it and we had to spend our entire dinner with coats on. Very disappointed. I won’t be back.
When we arrived at about 7:58 for our 8:00 reservation, we still had wait for other parties to arrive which could take a while. Our hibachi table was right by the door which was uncomfortably freezing. We did end up switching to another table inside the restaurant which was better but we still felt a cold draft. Food was good. I ordered the filet mignon with chicken and my gf had the spicy NY strip. Food arrived at 930PM. Overall experience was good, the food was good however the coldness inside the restaurant lowered the overall value.
Worst experience that I have ever had at this spot. Been here tons of time. 2 hours long. Another table the old chef was throwing and dropping food everywhere on floor. Girlfriend sat on end and food from old chef was hitting her. Didnt understand beer at bar 3.25 beer in restaraunt 5.50 then at 8pm beer in bar $7.90 for a Bud Light. Not impressed. 3 different prices for beer. Food was alright. Our chef was great. It lasted 2 hours never before has it taken that long. Must not if had too many reservations. I dont know. Everytime we have gone here it has been getting worst!!! Might be our last time going. Not a fan anymore. VERY DISAPPONTED!!! We loved this place!!!!
Food sucked! We were there 4 a birthday. Our chef never offered any Sake to spray in our mouths like every other tables did. It was boring. Quality of meat 4 the emperor's meal was horrible. Way over priced for horrible everything. Need better options for sides. Or need some options. Cant expect everyone to like that crap. Not everyone eats fish or likes chicken and mushroom broth/water with 2 green onion shavings in it
Even though we have a reservation every time, we end up waiting past that time. The entryway waiting area is always packed with not enough seating. The hostesses could care less about being personable. This time our waitress told us a beer was not on tap so brought a bottle. When we asked for a refill she came back saying she made a mistake and it was on tap. We were still charged for her mistake. The chef burnt the vegetables, blackened all my seafood, and didn't do a show during the meal because they were too busy. This place used to be great for special occasions, honestly our last trip was NOT WORTH $130. If I could take it back and just have stayed at home, I would.
Food and service is always excellent when we attend ! Found a few new ways to spicy up our dinner and it worked out great!! Love the atmosphere here and our chef was exceptionally peppy which helps the dinning experience! Always try to bring new guests with to experience dinner and a show!
I brought my family for dinner to Benihanas. We have been here about a dozen times. This time, by far, has been the absolute worst visit. First, our waiter was completely spacey. He took our entire order right away. No drinks order first. He entered in the wrong information for the chef and it took 20 minutes to receive our drinks. When they did come, my kids didn't get their drinks right. Frustrating to say the least. Our waiter even admitted it was a slow night and our table was his only responsibility. Good God!!! Next, our chef came out before soup or salad was served. Starting the "show" before we were served the first course. He was about 90 years old. I have never feared for my life at dinner until this time. The chef was doing tricks but he never pulled them off. Dropping spatulas or lemons, eggs, and shrimp. Then the knives came out... the food was nothing special. The prices are insanely expensive for what you get and the drinks are so so. Benihanas needs a new CEO that can revamp it's policies and training program. I don't recommend this place to anyone.
We just love the birthday certificates so that we can enjoy coming here-and we love that when seated at Hibachi table you can get to know new people and have a show from the chef while conversating with those around you. It was a nice meal and we enjoyed the service from this dinner.
We were not impressed with how long it took to get our reserved table. It took 45 minutes passed our reservation time to be seated. It was another 20 minutes before we got our soup. Once the chef arrived, everything went well. Food was tasty. My 4 kids were pretty crabby the morning after, since it was 10pm before we arrived home.
We had a fun experience. Our chef did a great job entertaining us and paying special attention to the little girl at our table. He did something this time we never saw in other visits, he made a chicken from an egg! There was a haze throughout the entire restaurant. We noticed it immediately upon arrival and it never cleared. It's usually not that way. I was disappointed that we weren't offered a take home photo this time.
We were seated about 10 minutes after our reservation. Our server was really nice and top of everything. Ronen was our chef and he was extra nice and fun. We were lucky enough and got paired with a other great group. We really had a lot of fun. Only thing that was a little disappointing is that it was so cold until the cooking started up. But i guess its due to the cold air through the vents so not their fault. I wouod recommend wearing something a little warmer if you are going in the winter.
We arrived 10 minutes early our reservations were at 7:30. We sat at our table about 7:45. We were seated with 2 other parties which in each group someone was celebrating a birthday. Once we were seated our hostess Carol came to the table took drink orders and dashed away. She seemed to be really busy, which showed the had to be short staffed or something, because we watched her serve several tables. So after about 10-15 mins she was back with drinks and ready to take our order. So after this she dashed away again to sing Happy Birthday to 2 other tables. Now she has to help them pack up and get them their ice cream. We still waiting for soup and salads. So now the soup and salad arrive. We finish our salads and soup to sit at the table waiting for the cook to finish serving another table this took 30 mins as we sit cold from the cold air coming from the vent above the grill. We were never checked on. I never got water refilled by Carol. I had to flag another waitress for help. SO now Hector arrives and he was amazing, he came in and got it going but at this point my Birthday Experience was ruined. I felt he was tired we were the last people in the restaurant besides one other table on our side. Hector was finishing up and that's when we seen Carol coming with to-go boxes. We just received our food which took us forever to get and now we are being rushed to finish and get ice cream? It was so bad to no one at the table wanted to be sung to or picture taken, I love Benihana's and me and friends are regulars at the restaurants around the Twin Cities and this is the worst experience ever. This had ruined my birthday dinner. People come for the experience of the Chef and the over-all atmosphere and that we didn't receive it just wasn't welcoming.
We were the first to arrive & forgotten when it came to being seated. 15 mins after our reservation we we're seated. Drink order taken. Server was great. Dinner order taken. Soup delivered. Salad delivered. No chef. Over an hour wait for a chef to arrive at our table. Other 6pm guest at other tables we already boxing up their meals & we still sat there waiting. Mrg apologized and offered 15% discount. Finally the chef arrive. Very friendly but definitely frazzled. Served me the wrong food. I had to scrape it onto my son's plate. And when all was said & done I was comped under $9. I normally have a great time but after being forgotten, waiting over an hour & being served the wrong food, I think we should have been comped something more. Don't you?
We weren't pleased with Benihana this time. We waited for our waitress a long time, after being seated (10 minutes). (She apologized, explained she was new, and that the host hadn't let her know we had been seated.) Then we ordered our food and waited an exceptionally long time to have our chef come to the table. (Manager had come over and apologized, asked if we needed anything to drink, sharing that one chef had badly cut his finger, was sent to the ER, thus they were short staffed.) We later found our from our table chef, that they were actually down 2 chefs, as someone had also called in sick that evening. When the waitress brought our salads out, her long hair (that was pulled around to the front, on one side of her body) was literally hanging directly in our salads and on her serving tray. Our chef was wonderful, and our food he prepared was delicious. But within 5-10 minutes of the chef getting us our food, the waitress was literally at our table, with to-go boxes in hand, asking if anyone needed one, while we were all eating with plates 1/2 to 3/4 full. It was definitely not one of our better experiences at Benihana.
While we certainly understand that accidents happen, and sometimes situations are out of the restaurants control, under these circumstances it would have been nice for the manager to comp us a drink, or take some money off our bill, for the inconvenience of having to wait so long, only to be rushed out after we finally got our food, after waiting so long.
