Benihana - Maple Grove Ratings and Reviews
Best chef ever, did things I've never seen before. Ryan was excellent. Waitress was a little preoccupied, busy clearing and setting another table and not as attentive as I would expect. Food was good as always. BUT, the restaurant was very cold and drafty. People were actually wearing their winter coats and hats. The issue apparently was the overhead vent systems; cold air was coming down through them (it was very cold outside). Smoke from the grill was blowing into my face (an issue for me with lung problems) due to the downdraft. Even Ryan complained about the cold draft. Very uncomfortable! We mentioned the problem to the staff, who apologized. I think there should have been an offer of some sort. We won't return to that location in cold weather again.
When I booked our table through Open Table I had requested to please make my adult daughter's birthday special as best they could. I noticed that at different tables they sang "Happy Birthday" but did not come over to our table. The servers and chef for our table was very courteous and did know that we were celebrating a birthday.
Disappointed with our cook. He was rather boring, no personality and continued to cough a lot. Food was ok for the price! It was very cold at our table most of the dinner. The ventilation system was poor as I had to wash our winter coats afterwards. Our coats smelled like grease/oil. Overall, disappointed with service and atomosphere.
The service this time was below average. Server messed up appetizers and bill, the chef was not very entertaining and the worst part of the evening was we had to keep our coats on the entire meal-it was absolutely freezing in the entire restaurant. The food was good as normal, not sure we will be back, there are so many other options in the area it was just not a good experience.
we made reservations for my son's 20th birthday. It was horrible! Our cook seamed drunk, it was uncomfortably COLD and due to the temp, they did not use the exhaust fans so it was extremely smokey! Our jackets had go to the cleaners because they smelled so bad days later.
VERY VERY disappointed.
We were highly disappointed this time around; it was for my birthday. The chef was an hour late to cooking for us, it was freezing cold in the restaurant due to the vents open on a cold night, our chef cooked really fast, poor skills, undercooked meat (wanted it well done), only a few unexcitable tricks that you pay all the $$ to see. :(
Our chef was terrible. We waited for almost a half hour after our salads came to have him to come to our table. He was not in a good mood and it showed. He rushed through everything and did it provide a good experience. Our waiter was awesome though. It was also very cold sitting by the window.
This is our go-to spot for our families special occasions. However, tonight things just fell way short of our expectations.
The restaurant was freezing. Beyond freezing actually, we ate with winter coats on. The hostess booth needs training. We arrived an hour early for apps in the bar. We checked in and they said they’d just find us when it was time to be seated. 10 minutes before our reservation, I decided just to check in once more only to come up behind the hostess screaming (and I mean screaming) my name. I apologized and said we were in the bar as discussed when we arrived. She scolded me and said they’d been looking for us for awhile. Ugh!!!!!
Matt our chef was phenomenal. At least our food was better than it has ever been in any of our visits. He had a great personality and made the rest of the evening a delight. The ladies restroom was beyond disgusting. I’m pretty sure it hadn’t been checked the entire day, or two for that matter.
My husband and I got out for a rare date night. Strangely enough Benihana got a “delivery” on a Saturday evening. I was so uncomfortably cold it was really hard to enjoy the experience. My husband and I also got some sort of bad food or something because we both felt pretty sick the rest of the evening. We love Benihana and this location. I think we just had a poor experience this time around.
Overall, the food was excellent. Our chef I think was annoyed we were a bit late and was pleasant, but definitely not energetic. He said we were his last table and it was obvious he couldn't wait for us to leave. Evidently, the heaters in the back were not working and the temperature outside was -10 degrees. There was a constant cold breeze
So in all, the food was great. Our chef was crabby and the air was cold and they definitely could have done better.
Everyone at our table was extremely cold, we had to wear our jackets during the better part of dinner. Especially on very cold days there should be a plan for how to keep people warm when the air was cold At the table and people will continue to come in and out. Having double doors, a separation wall may help, this is very small investment, or having a couple of space heaters near by to help. All of us were cold and the foot got cold very fast as well.
Restaurant was very cold while eating. Wasn’t a good experience due to cold air coming in from the doors. Need to call a vendor in to fix the heater system or a way to block the cold air from freezing everybody out on the left side of the restaurant. One group moved 3 times while we suffered through the cold environment. Didn’t complain, but the experience was very disappointing & waitress didn’t come by often to see if we needed anything. Several times we had the chef do the waitress duties.
It was so cold in the restaurant a person could not enjoy anything. People had to wear their jackets and if they had a sweatshirt with a hood on it, they had their hood up. My son wore a short sleeve shirt and was freezing. My daughter and I had long sleeve shirts on, but it was unpleasantly cold. The waitress asked how things were and I told her it was cold and her response was “she couldn’t personally do anything about it.” Duh, but someone could have. Didn’t enjoy the food or the experience at all.
It was extremely cold in there to the point were I was shacking cold. And I wasn’t advised until the last minute that I had to share my birthday certificate of $30 with another Customer. If my cousin wasn’t having dinner with me I wouldn’t have been able to use it. That’s was very disappointing seeing that I asked the waiter before I placed my order, could I use the certificate and was there anything I needed to know in order to use it and he advised nothing... So, overall it was a horrible experience having to eat and be very cold at the same time.
This was a terrible experience!! We were seated almost exactly immediately. Our server came to take our drink orders. We asked for recommendations on a wine and he gave a snide remark about not drinking. It took over 1/2 hr to get our drinks. When we arrived we were told the restaurant was in chilly. That was an understatement. During our stay we could see our breaths. This was an inside venue. What the heck. The food prepared was ok. Overall it was a terrible experience. Not worth the $$ nor getting a cold over.
My only complaint at all was that they have no way to control the cold temperature in the winter and it was very cold, all of us needing leave on our winter coats. The food was terrific and the chef entertaining with great service. We were told by our server and then later by the manager (and they apologized for it being cold) that their ventilation system over the grill at each table requires pulling in outside air and it was -6 F on the day we went. We did get a very nice manager discount on the bill but will definitely wait for warmer weather before going back.
It was cold in there and when the chef was done and shut off the exhaust fan, cold outside air rushed in. We had to put on our coats and our meals got cold instantly. Our server turned the fan back on at our insistence and that helped but not much. It was so cold we wanted to leave. Love Benihana but you need to do something about the cold air coming in.
We have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed ourselves, but on this occasion the restaurant was ridiculously cold. It was very cold outside, to be sure, and we were told that it wasn’t a matter of a broken heating system but rather a function of how the vents are designed. We ate our dinner wrapped in our heavy winter coats, and when the chef turned off the grill it got even colder. No compensation on our bill. We paid almost $400 for 4 people, froze to death and then had to go home and wash the grease smell out of our winter coats. Very disappointing.
Usually I would give all fives for Benihana's. However on this Christmas night at - 1 degrees temperature and -30 wind chill, it was so cold inside, because of the grill
vents that everyone had winter jackets and gloves on the entire meal. It was freezing. If one did not eat their food immediately, it was cold within minutes. The cooks were unable to perform their usual food show due to the extreme cold. We were told there was nothing they can do. That it is best not to come unless it is 20 degrees or above. Not even free photos on this Christmas night. My advice : Look at the weather forecast before making reservations.
Definitely the worst dining experience ever. It was absolutely freezing in there. We all ate with our coats on. Most of the other diners did too. The manager said there was nothing he could do about it, that the restaurant was always that cold when it was cold outside. Surprised that the Board of Health allows such low temperatures.
