Benihana - Manhasset Ratings and Reviews
Our server was great, accomadating and professional while also being extremely friendly. Other than that, best I can say is our food didn't taste bad. Maybe I could say it tasted fine. Good enough...which is always what I'm going for when I i go out to dinner. At some point you can't rest on the legacy of your business name. The restaurant decor is worn and spartan and the state of the restrooms showed just how little some one cares about the establishment. Rather, they are all about volume and turnover of tables versus quality. The cost of dinner seems solely related to the idea that they are providing multiple dishes. That said, nothing was good enough to justify the cost. Over all, food decent, staff great, ambiance and value subpar.
Disappointing. Celebrating a special birthday with seven family members. First, order for me was wrong but not a big deal. Then cook prepares an extra fried rice as only six of seven ordered it. He offered it to us but said we would be charged extra for it to our surprise, what else could they do with cooked rice. We declined. He also made extra small shrimp which typically would be shared amongst the table he left with it. The delay in the food prep found us with cold food with little taste. Considering the total check was about $350 the fact he would charge us for one small bowl of cooked rice and zbout six small shrimp we all thought was quite insulting. Considering the cost versus the quality and lack of customer service I could not recommend this restaurant.
Birthday dinner for my oldest tonight- we had 5 of her girlfriends with us. We were about 15 min early for our reservation, the restaurant had us seated within minutes. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. He asked who the birthday person was and made dinner special for her. He took a group picture and printed it for us to take home. Our chef Miguel was wonderful. He made us a great dinner, kept everyone’s attention, was entertaining, super friendly and made the evening very enjoyable all around.
The food was excellent and the chef was great. The night we went the service was not good though. First off we had given the water our birthday certificate for coupon which he forgot about. At the end of the meal, no birthday ice cream and pic as we usually get for birthday meals there, then took forever to fix the check because he didn't take the money off for the coupon. Overall service was lacking.
I've been to others in the chain but not in quite a few years. We went for my son's 4th birthday and while the food was good, we couldn't help but feel like we were in an assembly line and being pushed to rush through our meal. We were ready to go, but then were left waiting for a while for the dessert and check which I would think they would be right on top of since they were clearing the table while we were still eating. The table next to us had a much more engaging cook, while ours was sweet, he didn't seem to do all the tricks others do. It didn't help that the family who sat with us had three kids all looking at screens the entire time, which we found rude to the cook. It would have been nice to have our waters refilled at least once as well. It was nice they took a birthday photo and printed it for us, but I wish they had taken one where at least one out of four of us was looking and smiling at the camera.
Place was overbooked. They should really pay attention to detail when arranging the placing of customers. The waitress was very pushy and not inviting at all. The food will always be good hence it solely depends on the chef making it. However the cuisine is always the same. My partner and I left and ended up eating at the one in Westbury and it was AMAZING compared to the 2 stars I’m giving this location
Unfortunately, this time around we did not enjoy Benihana’s. Although it was not very busy, the service was not very good. It’s a very commercial restaurant and we go around 3 times a year to entertain the kids. They enjoy watching the cook prepare the food but this time around the experience was not fun. The food was minimal and the prices are too high.
99% of the time Benihana’s is *star service. But on this trip which was Christmas Day was a disappointment. Eating Dinner to the sounds of fire alarms was disappointing. And to hear it’s an ongoing issue just exasperates the problem. The food was fair at best and our chef was trying to hard and we all new it. Ohhhhhhh volcano and ho ho ho was annoying. We just figured he was tired and wanted to give a better service. And our meal was entered wrong and had to be refuted. We love love Benihana’s and. Can’t wait to give this location another chance!
First time visiting this location and I like it much better than the Westbury location which gets extremely crowded, stuffy and the service is subpar. This Manhasset location is great and has a bigger area for non-hibachi diners. The wait staff is very attentive and polite and, as always, the food was great.
My family has always loved going to Benihana for a special treat, however, we've been disappointed the past few times. The tableside cooks look bored, are not at all engaging. Our cook this past visit looked half asleep. They need to perk up a little. Food is touch and go, again, depends on the cook. Some underseason the food, under or over cook meats, etc. I think it's time to start looking for new, more exciting hibachi places.
My sister ordered hibatchi steak, as did 4 others at the table, apparently the chef overlooked her order; Asked people who ordered steak how they want the meat cooked, but her. When all the steak was apportioned, there was one left, hers . . . she had wanted her's rare, but being the last steak it was more or less cooked well; the chef instead of getting another steak, served it anyway. It took several mins of protest that the steak was not rare, before the chef realized that it was HIS mistake in overlooking this order, and should not have served it not "cooked to perfection." The steak was replaced, but it should not have taken a big deal to get it done. Most other restaurants, whether valued or expensive would have noted that the steak was NOT rare, and would have replaced it immediately. This chef did not even apologize for the oversight, I thought, and after a while replaced it grudgingly. I gave service a 4-star because of the wait staff, the chef notwithstanding. I dine here approx three or four times year, for several years now, and not have had a bad experience here but this one time.
We go to Benihana’s for my son’s birthday each year with the whole family. At first service seemed very rushed two servers asked us if we were ready to order food literally as we were given menus. But the pace got better as dinner went along. I ordered a soft shell crab appetizer for before my hibachi which was served when the hibachi chef was finished cooking. At that point I assumed the server hadn’t heard me order it but it was still good so I didn’t mind that much. I also had given the hostess my card to pay for the meal without my table knowing, and was initially very confused when I was handed a receipt for a large gift card and then a bunch more gift cards, but I realized they gave me a promo by using a gift card instead of just swiping for the bill so now we have a gift card towards our next meal just because....that was nice of them to do. Overall a nice experience and we will continue our birthday tradition next year.
