Benihana - Manhasset Ratings and Reviews
My family has always loved going to Benihana for a special treat, however, we've been disappointed the past few times. The tableside cooks look bored, are not at all engaging. Our cook this past visit looked half asleep. They need to perk up a little. Food is touch and go, again, depends on the cook. Some underseason the food, under or over cook meats, etc. I think it's time to start looking for new, more exciting hibachi places.
My sister ordered hibatchi steak, as did 4 others at the table, apparently the chef overlooked her order; Asked people who ordered steak how they want the meat cooked, but her. When all the steak was apportioned, there was one left, hers . . . she had wanted her's rare, but being the last steak it was more or less cooked well; the chef instead of getting another steak, served it anyway. It took several mins of protest that the steak was not rare, before the chef realized that it was HIS mistake in overlooking this order, and should not have served it not "cooked to perfection." The steak was replaced, but it should not have taken a big deal to get it done. Most other restaurants, whether valued or expensive would have noted that the steak was NOT rare, and would have replaced it immediately. This chef did not even apologize for the oversight, I thought, and after a while replaced it grudgingly. I gave service a 4-star because of the wait staff, the chef notwithstanding. I dine here approx three or four times year, for several years now, and not have had a bad experience here but this one time.
We go to Benihana’s for my son’s birthday each year with the whole family. At first service seemed very rushed two servers asked us if we were ready to order food literally as we were given menus. But the pace got better as dinner went along. I ordered a soft shell crab appetizer for before my hibachi which was served when the hibachi chef was finished cooking. At that point I assumed the server hadn’t heard me order it but it was still good so I didn’t mind that much. I also had given the hostess my card to pay for the meal without my table knowing, and was initially very confused when I was handed a receipt for a large gift card and then a bunch more gift cards, but I realized they gave me a promo by using a gift card instead of just swiping for the bill so now we have a gift card towards our next meal just because....that was nice of them to do. Overall a nice experience and we will continue our birthday tradition next year.
It was bad enough we had to travel so far, when got there we were greeted with a huge amount of guess. We got there 15minute prior to our reservation and was told we had a 2 to 3 hour wait because they are over book.......REALLY! .....so we did what was in our best interest and left this tired and over rated dump......Even the customers that were finish eating looked disappointed.......worst experience ever.......Would never recommend this place to my worst enemy and I know other can relate......
We went there for lunch and Will was our chef. He was excellent, and really enjoyed cooking for our table. He took great care in avoiding too much salt and soy sauce on the food which we appreciated and tasted much better. We've been here many times and he was by far the best. The service was a bit slow but once the chef started cooking we enjoyed ourselves. It's a slow dining experience so be prepared to spend 1 1/2 - 2 hours here. Not recommended for outstanding food but great for kids and a fun group experience.
We have been going to this Benihana for over a decade. Like most restaurants, it has cut the food amount and quality over time, while simultaneously raising prices. The food is still decent, but now you receive fewer shrimp in the appetizer, and a smaller piece of steak for your meal. The chefs are hit-or-miss. Sometimes you get an enthusiastic showman, and other times you get someone who is bored to death and going through the motions of his repetitive tasks. Unfortunately, we got the latter. He seemed pained as he did each step. Benihana is an iconic go-to, but there are many no-name hibachi steakhouses cropping up all over Long Island with better and more food, and cheaper prices. Slowly people will catch on and leave Benihana behind, unless Benihana ups its game considerably.
We had a 6:45 reservation and had to wait until about 7:20 for the cook to come over. Food was good but a bit bland. Rice was hard and overcooked. There was 2 of us and the bill came out to $48 with a $30 off coupon. Definitely not worth $78 for 2 people. The cook was good and entertaining. Probably would not go back.
Food was terrible, chef was underwhelmed with his cooking and basically it was a salty hot mess. I will never set foot in there again. Sad we used to go once a month. They need a new management team and need some better servers. Oversalted and lackluster Terrible experience.
This was one of the most horrible dining experiences ever! It was noisy and dirty/outdated looking. The staff was rude and Unaccommodating. The manager was polite when I asked to speak to her. Small quantities of low quality food. "Steak" is a term used loosely there. Never again!
We went with our family for our father's birthday dinner and never expected to feel like we were in Chuckie Cheese with all of the MANY screaming kids all over the place. It used to be some families and many adults, but now appears to cater mainly tons of families with young kids. Way too loud, too crowded, service bad to mediocre... Definitely not a nice ambiance what so ever. Our chef was nice and food was good, but other service was horrible. We had a reservation and waited entirely too long and was not impressed with response from front desk. Not very organized reservations.
I used to go to eat at Benihana for years and it has been awhile. We were celebrating my daughter and made reservations for 8. I will say the chef was OK. The food was ok. He did not interact well with the kids. He was distracted. We did not get our dessert. We were not given refills of our drinks. The server was not attentive.
We will not be returning.
The food was delicious. It is not the best place to go if you were looking for a quiet conversation, as the restaurant is loud and the seating difficult for a large group. For my party of three, we were all able to talk comfortably but a larger group would certainly have some trouble. This is not the fault of the restaurant itself, but more just the nature of the restaurant. Any hibachi place would likely present the same problem.
This was a go away dinner for my grandson for his first year at college. We wanted it to be extra special. The soup, vegetables and fried rice were good. I actually ordered the spicy rice and enjoyed it. The chicken teriyaki was rubbery. My grandchildren and I did not like the texture at all. My husband said the shrimp were okay but nothing to brag about. Considering what we paid for four people I didn't feel it was worth it.
Everything was good as always but on my reservation I asked to be seated with 6 including myself people minimum, instead I was seating with 8 people making it 10 people../ while I've seen other with less people seating.... wasn't thrill for that day it was my friend birthday wanted to be less crowded at the table... But the cook & server was excellent the host didn't follow my instructions
