Benihana - Lombard Ratings and Reviews
The hostess in the front is the most incompetent person I have ever met. I had a reservation which was ignored, she sat everyone who walked in with us and people who came after us before us. Mind you, I had a party of five, yes not a whole table, but for a 8 person table 5/8 is pretty FULL in my book. I asked her for a separate table she refused. Said I would have to wait too long. One half hour after waiting after my reserved time, I was given a separate table. So, why was that so hard in the first place? This girl has given me attitude before I’m the past and today was no different. Just ruins your whole dining experience especially before you have even sat down.
Food great over all. The servers were okay. Most of them were great, however felt rushed at the end.
This restaurant was very disappointing. First they could not get my table request right - we just wanted to sit at a non-grill table, but they kept trying to seat us at a booth however my aunt had just had shoulder surgery and needed a regular table. They apparently could not comprehend this. After waiting for a “regular table” for 20 minutes, thinking we were getting one with four chairs, we were taken to a grill table. So we gave up and just did the hibachi meal even though we hadn’t wanted that. The “chef” did such a half-hearted job with the performance; it was like he didn’t care to be there. The food was terrible - cooked in gobs of butter and way over-salted and somehow still flavorless. The restaurant itself was shabby and badly lit. There was nothing enjoyable about this experience.
The restaurant was really basic. In order to make your food complete, you have to pay for add ons. The soup and salad was horrible!! We had to wait a half hour after our reservation to be seated. The chefs were under staff(which is something others said happen quite often), and it was 1 waitor to a whole side (7 tables)! I came for my birthday and they would let me use the coupon, because it wasn’t printed well. Never Again!
I would have enjoyed by food better if my order was correct.....not able to eat (onions, black pepper, lemon or garlic) seasoning I asked for my food to be cooked without the seasoning but the cook used the same utensils to cook my food as the other which left me not feeling well.
The rice and shrimp was cold by the time my other meats were done and the shrimp was tough.
Love the place.....this experience was just not good for me.
Took my girlfriend here for her birthday. She absolutely loves benihana, she has many fond memories from her childhood of going with family. I was apprehensive, I'm a bit picky and I didn't know how I'd fair with am Asian Menu. Fear not, they have steak! And boy is it good! I had a good time watching the chef do his thing and learned to use chopsticks. My one negative point would be the cost. It was good, I don't think it was nearly 100 dollars good. I'll go again, it's one of her favorite places, but my wallet won't like it
From the very moment our waitress took our order we were doomed! We thought this was going to be a quick lunch, because of the lower priced lunch specials, smaller portions, but no...quite the opposite. First of all, the waitress got our order wrong, which caused a delay when the hibachi chef came out, whom proceeded to openly complain about the waitress, then pushed the cart off in disappointment back to the kitchen (hey come back)!
So, we finally ate, the food was good, but the sauce was way to watery, not like the usual mayo sauce (so that was another let down). Also, our waitress, forgot all about our rice, so we had to flag down another waiter from another section to bring us our rice. Our waitress finally brought the rice, but at the end of the meal (too late).
Finally, this is what did it! Our waitress kept delaying the check. She would come out, show us the check, then be confused about whether or not it was ours, then head right back to the cashier. She did this twice, got rude with me when I wanted to look at the prices, then the third time she did not come back! This is when we packed up our things and complained at the front desk. It took a hostess to track down our waitress (who was hiding somewhere) to get our check, so I could sign off on it. What horrible service! We are sticking to the Wheeling location and never coming back here again! I tipped the waiter that brought us the rice and the hibachi chef! Our waitress was rude and horrible!
I have been to this location at least 30-40 times over the years and today was by far the worst I’ve ever experienced. The service was absolutely terrible. The server put the soup and salad down at the same time and then disappeared the rest of the meal. We had to flag down a busboy just to get water refilled. When the server finally appeared it was to give us the check, before she even asked if we wanted dessert. We had two small children with us for their birthday and we told the server and she never did anything about it. So disappointed. When we did voice our displeasure with the manager, we got a oh sorry like they don’t even care. I will not return, so many other restaurants with better service
I'm disgusted by the way I was treated by the manager at this location. I was charged for club soda which comes out of the machine that water is distributed out of and to top it off I was charged $3 as if the beverage was poured out of a sealed bottle or a can. I spoke to the manager and advised her that I've never been charged for this at other Benihana restaurants and asked her to remove it from my bill and she said NO, and walked away....I also asked for another manager of higher authority and she stated that there was no one else at that location but her. I will never ever take any of my colleagues there and have reported this to corporate as well.
We went there to celebrate a bday. They sat us down and then waited 25 min to get our drink order. They were not very busy. I had to go to the front desk and get a waiter to get our drinks. They brought a plate of Sushi as courtesy but only one person in our group liked Sushi. I have been to Benihana many times but this time the service was not good.
