Benihana - Lombard Ratings and Reviews
The supervisor was outstanding the initial server was the worse he did not understand that we wanted split checks and I had to explain to him that it won't be 16 separates checks because he assumed. Then his partner came over yelling and tried to assist but things just became worse. After the altercation was resolved another server came over with great understanding and extremely polite which made my stay enjoyable.
My family and I have always enjoyed dining at Benihana. The food is good. Usually the service is pretty great. However, this last visit, I would say the service was only "good". At the end of our meal, a server, not our main server, brought boxes without us asking. Although much appreciated, my family and I were exchanging stories since we just finished our meal, and the server didn't excuse herself and just started to talk to us about boxing our food. The server also didn't ask whether any of us were still working on our meals since the Hibachi service ended about 10mins prior to getting the boxes. It just made us feel like we were being rushed out of the restaurant. The restaurant closes at 10pm and the server was doing this at 9pm. We are not sure why. In any case, this wasn't a deal breaker for us, but would certainly consider informing the server, if this happens again, and say that we are working on our food and will box it ourselves, .
We made a reservation and still had to wait an hour to be seated. Then once seated, other tables began getting their food cooked and we hadn’t not yet had our orders taken. No one came around for drink refills and our cook didn’t perform lots of the usual tricks and entertainment. Lastly, once we paid for the meal and added tip, the server came back and requested we add more to the tip making our tip total more than $75.00. We will not be returning to this location.
New Years Eve dinner with friends. Food and drinks were delicious. The chef was talented and fun to watch. The only slight negative was there was a significant wait for the salads to be brought out to us. It was very busy and I think we just got overlooked for a while. After that, service was quick and attentive again. All in all it was a great night out for dinner. We will be back again in the near future.
For the past 6-7 years we have taken our son to Benihana's for lunch on his birthday. We go to lunch because it is much cheap than the dinner. Today after we were seated we found out that there was only a "holiday menu," no lunch menu. The prices were crazy high. It cost us $260 for LUNCH for 6 people!!!
What was I supposed to do after we found out, tell my husband, two kids and their two grandfathers to leave?! We were already seated at the grill. I am furious about this! There is no reason a lunch should be so expensive. There was no more food or additional items, just increased prizes because TOMORROW is a holiday. Complete rip off!
This location is right next to a chick-fil-a and really hard to spot when on the main road. If the GPS didn't point me exactly there I would have missed it. The good news is it's actually larger than it looks from the outside. The vibe was good, pretty chill and laid back. It was a Wednesday night and they seemed to have a good crowd. The staff could have been more engaging but were polite enough. Also, they were having a problem with their heat so that made the experience less enjoyable, especially toward the end when they turned off the grill. However, the manager did redeem herself by apologizing and making things right.
The food was excellent and I wish I could rate them based on food alone but that wouldn't be a comprehensive review. So , I'm going to be as honest as I can so that people know what to expect when they visit this location. Overall, a great experience because the food was so good but I give the entire experience a 4/5 due to the mediocre customer service and the heat issue.
The service and food were good but not great. The filet mignon was very good but the scallops and salmon were bland and had no seasoning. We asked our chef to melt some garlic butter and add it over our seafood and that helped. It was so cold in the restaurant to the point where you couldn't enjoy your meal. Both before and after our meal was prepared, we had to sit at the table with our winter coats on. Also, the second the chef was done preparing our meal and turned off the grill top a rush of arctic air blew down from the ceiling onto us and our food. The other party at our table complained and their entire meal was comped while we received a full bill. I had gift cards to get rid of and seeing as I don't plan on returning to this restaurant I just paid the bill. I would NOT recommend benihanas at least not the Lombard location!
Restroom was nasty. Called for manager and nothing was done at first. Had to go in and clean before I had to use. Food was okay, my kids first time there. They enjoyed it. More time and effort should be put in to making sure the actual restaurant is clean. Wanted to post my pics but this link won’t let me.
WORST NIGHT EVER, OUR YEARLY TRADITION WAS RUINED, overbooked, manager was worthless could care less, had a reservation waited 1 1/2 hour for a table, another 1 1/2 hour to eat, total 3:30 hours in the restaurant , NEVER AGAIN OUR EXPERIENCE WAS AWFUL
Total disaster from Manger to Waiter. We are huge fans of Benihana and go about 2 times a month and wanted to go there with my Parents for Christmas. Made reservations and got there early - was told EARLIER then our reservation about 30 mins. Then 20 mins , 20 mins , 20 mins for a total wait of about 1hr 30 mins AFTER our reservation.
I noted that one woman who was friends with the manager said "Hey I hope you didn't cut someone else out of line for us ?" to which he smirked. I went back to the desk at the 1hr mark and another person who came AFTER us had a later reservation and same number of people said to the manager to let them in and started screaming and fussing and they instantly sat her. Then 3 caucasian people ALL who had later reservations and same number of people were seated before us. I hope it was an accident but I doubt it was.
We sit down and the waiter asks for drink orders and turns on the Fan and I gave him our order and he starts screaming about if we have a problem with him ... First I could barely hear him and the first wait person kept asking us what we said because they couldn't hear. The waiter throws a hissy fit to himself and a normal waiter shows up.
Then about 30 mins after that the Chef shows up and you can see he is in a rush and forgets all the fun stuff I had brought my parents for and just rushes through cooking.
It was clear that this Benihana location MASSIVELY overbooked. I get they were stressed but the waiter was clearly out of bounds with his behavior - especially since all of us sat dumbfounded with his explosion. The manager did nothing to help and the whole experience kind of sucked on a pretty special day.
What is particularly dumb is that by overbooking and getting this 1 reservation, I will suspend coming here weekly for business meals and families ones indefinitely. The behavior of the manager to the waiters was unacceptable.
This was a horrible experience, I made reservations for 6 people for 5:30 and when we got there the place was packed and the reservations were all running hour and a half behind. Why did they over book it knowing it was Christmas Day, it's not like they didn't know how many people reserved. We would go up there abd ask how much longer and the girls at desk keep saying another twenty minutes and finally at 7:00 we sat down and than didn't get the chef to cook for us until 7:45. The manager there has no clue what the hell he is doing. Never going there again.
I had the worst experience I have ever had at a restuarant. I made reservations for 12/25/2017 for my family (Party of 8) for 5:30 pm. When we arrived there were over 100 people in the lobby and lounge area, with standing room only. When we ask how long the wait would be the receptionist said she didnt know. Other people waiting had been there for 4PM reservations for almost 2 hours. Aftr waiting an hour we left lombard and drove downtown to carnivale. Some of our family memebers actually drove from St, John Indiana and were forced to drive another 45 minutes to downtown Chicago. This was the worst service ever. I understand businesses want to make money, but how disapointing to treat people this way especially on the holiday, how very sad and disappointing. i wll not return to this restaurant and I've been going here since the 80's.
We made a reservation for 5:00 PM. We arrived 15 minutes early knowing this was Christmas Day. We waited for over one hour and the place was PACKED. My family and I waited in the bar area and stood most of the time because there were no seats available. I have been to this Benihana many times and I have never had any issues other than wait times to sit... even with a reservation. Someone at this location NEEDS to make some serious adjustments to the over booking problem.
On a lighter side, the food is very good and the chefs are entertaining. The service staff is very polite and as long as the place isn't overwhelmed(60% of capacity) with customers, the service is pretty quick. The bar service was pretty speedy as well. On our way out the manager thanked us and apologized for the long wait times.
We went to Benihana for our annual Christmas Eve dinner. We had reservations, but waited about 20 minutes for a table. No big deal. We were brought water and placed our ordered. It took awhile longer than normal for the soup and salad to come out. The soup was lukewarm. Five of us ordered four filet mignon, one hibachi steak and two shrimp appetizers. Our chef didn't come to the table for an hour after we were seated! It was a long wait for dinner. He was pleasant and entertaining. Unfortunately they forgot one of our appetizers. Then when the filets were put on the grill they were extremely fatty. The chef took quite a bit off, but the steak was cooked with the additional fat on it. Very disappointing. Some of the meat was inedible. Not only did we start out with less steak but what we had was not up to Benihana standards. Gary, a manager came over after we mentioned it to the waiter. He said sometimes when you get to the end of the tenderloin it's not as lean and he would make an adjustment to our check. The adjustment? $10.00 off the bill. We paid $31.75 per tenderloin! Needless to say, our dinner was not what we paid for. All around a big disappointment. They had to chance to make it right and didn't.
My family goes to a hibachi restaurant about once a year for special large group gatherings. We were all impressed with this one. Our chef, Angel, was very accommodating with our preferences for meat (medium well or medium rare) and did SO many tricks: juggling knifes, flipping eggs on spatula, flipping shrimp into his hat/pocket, volcano, beating heart... Some places we visit do not do as much.
The price was a little high but reasonable. Some of us wanted chicken but it was only offers as part of the 6 course meal (with dessert) and we wish it was offered as part of the 5 course meal. They had other good options though:)
