We had a wonderful time....but we wanted a lot of time to visit. If you're in a hurry this is not your place. Great food, nice atmosphere

We visited to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. The food is always good. However, the service we received for the price we paid (over $200!) was horrible. It started with a very limited menu because of Easter holiday weekend. I had no idea the menu was going to be limited it was never expressed. We did get the full menu once we asked. The chef was great and friendly. However, the whole meal was rushed. I was still eating my main meal and the server began packing items up as I was still eating. Forcing me to not finish, gulp down my dessert. Literally the waiter grabbed my daughter’s little chef hat and crumpled it up and shoved it into a half empty drink glass as I was taking the last bite of ice cream. The service was horrible! I was shocked! I did not come to spend that kind of money on horrible service. Since it was a birthday dinner, we had joined the birthday club and received a birthday coupon/certificate and when we presented it was not honored. We were told we couldn’t use on our meal. So what was the point of joining?! The experience for the price wasn’t worth it. The Lombard location is horrible. Patrons beware and if you want a pleasant and enjoyable experience visit the Downtown Chicago location.

I chose to have my graduation lunch at Benihana because I’ve celebrated many special occasions at various Benihana’s in the past (in Texas). We were a group of 13 and had a 1:30pm reservation. At 1:30, 11 of us had arrived and the other 2 were caught in traffic. They refused to seat us stating that if we were to sit, the other 2 people would not be able to join us, even if they arrived 5 minutes later, and even if we hadn’t ordered yet. Finally we were able to sit with the manager’s involvement (the other 2 people arrived a few minutes later and they hadn’t even brought us water yet). When they did come around to take our orders, the woman stated things such as “no, you don’t want that, you want this” and gave several of my guests items they did not actually want. The hibachi chef seemed irritated with life the entire time. Once we were done with our meal, one check was brought to us and they REFUSED to split it, even though they said it would be no problem when I made the reservation and when we arrived (we needed 6 checks by the way, it’s not like we were asking for 13 separate checks!). Because my guests did not have cash (who carries cash nowadays???), one of my guests was essentially forced to pay for all 13 of us and we had to pay them back after the meal. As I’ve stated, I’ve been to Benihana MANY times over the years and this particular one should be avoided at all costs. P.S. if you have any allergies (such as shellfish), don’t come here because they cannot accommodate you at all. I’m not sure if their grills aren’t cleaned appropriately between meal sessions, or if their food is stored in a way that cross contamination is a large issue, but I am highly allergic to shellfish and had to take medication shortly after leaving the restaurant even though no shellfish touched my food while it was in my sight. Again, I’ve been to other Benihanas in the past with no such cross contamination issues. AVOID THIS LOCATION.

OUR WAITER WAS HORRIBLE AND THE CHEF WAS WORST HIS NAME WAS MARTIN DID NOT LISTEN TO WHAT WE HAD TO SAY ABOUT HOW HE COOKED OUR FOOD VERY SLOPPY DROPPED RAW EGG ON SCALLOPS VERY DIRTY WITH HANDLING THINGS FLICKED A SHRIMP TAIL INTO ONE OF THE KIDS DRINKS GAVE IT TOO WAITER TO REFILL HE BROUGHT IT BANK WITH TAIL STILL IN GLASS JUST REFILLED DIRTY GLASS. THIS IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE EATING PLACES WE CELEBRATE EVERYTHING THERE GO AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH ALTHOUGH WE LIVE AN HOUR AWAY

Chef didn't speak English and wasn't as entertaining as we had hoped for a bday. Service from waitress was bad. Kept having to track her down to ask for drink refills. Told ahead of time about bday but they forgot to sing and treat until we reminded at end. Waitress chased us down as we were leaving to ask for more tip. Was very awkward. We tipped 20% for bad service .

Birthday dinner. This place needs some serious sprucing up. Also we have been to other similar venues where the “show” was more fun and elaborate. They forgot the tea and the beef was tough in my opinion - even ordered medium rare. They cooked the heck out of the shrimp and it was pretty bland. I don’t think we’ll go back.

I have been to many Hibachi restaurants and I will say this was my least favorite. The chef was boring and didn't say anything other than asking how we wanted our steak cooked. The only trick he did was the onion volcano and even then it was not impressive at all. The food was ok but the sauce options were not good at all. Every Hibachi I've been too gives you a thicker pale sauce they call "Yum Yum" sauce; you do NOT get anything like this at Benihana. Also, it didn't matter what temperature you told the chef you wanted your steak - you were getting rare. Even after asking him to keep it on the grill longer for a closer to medium temperature he still threw it on the plate rare. We do not plan on returning to a Benihana in the future.

Waiter did not speak English very well making it difficult for us to communicate and understand each other when ordering food.
He mixed up the orders for drinks and wrote down the wrong entree’s.
We had Chef Sam who made things a little bit better and he could tell from looking at the order slip that tje waiter may had things wrong so he had to verify everything all over again & had to bring the correct food out.
The food was small portions and was not tasty for the price.
This visit reminded me why I had not been there in years and had been traveling farther away from home to Wu House or Hamada of Japan where the food is delicious and you get nice portions for your money.

The food is the same food you've always gotten at Benihana. This location was quite loud. No, not "energetic." LOUD. As in "incredibly difficult to understand the chef/servers which resulted in mixed up orders and nearly a food allergy mishap." Fortunately, we were able to switch orders across the table and ended up OK.

Everyone was nice. The chef was cool. I was expecting more tricks from the chef. The chef at the next table was doing a lot more tricks. And since you’re paying so much for the experience I wanted to see more.

We brought our 6 and 9 year old grandkids. Our chef, Sam, interacted quite well with them and they talked about him for the next few days. The food is good.

Took my boyfriend here for his birthday. We really enjoyed ourselves! We sat at the table with a funny family. Our server was the best he did not miss a beat. The cook was awesome! The only thing was the portions of food was small. Everything was going great until the people at the next table started arguing.

My family typically goes to the Lombard Benihana once a year. My oldest daughter requests it for her birthday each year. We all love going there. We get the full 6 course dinners an a couple of my daughter's get sushi appetizers. We all get the Hibachi chicken rice (that's one of our favorite items). The preparation is simple and the steak, chicken, and seafood are all delicious. There were 8 of us for this past visit, and while it might seem pricey, considering all the food you get along with your own personal chef, I feel the price is very fair. We look forward to going back again next year.

I've been going frequently to Benihana in Lombard for over 15 years. Service has been terrible lately. Rude waitstaff, don't come around often to refill or check if you're in need of anything and they give attitude if you signal them over when you finally see them as if you're bothering them, no manners. My last visit, this Saturday, I asked our waitress if our appetizers would be much longer since she had already brought out the soups and salads and she cut me off very rudely repeating herself 4 times in an unpleasant tone "it's coming, it's coming, it's coming, it's coming!" It was 3:30 PM, place was half empty if not more. I like to eat my food once everything has been plated. Literally a minute after the chef left the same waitress that never came around shows up ready to box our food. I'm annoyed with her already but very nicely ask she leave the boxes since we were in the process of eating. She comes back a MINUTE later asking what we want for our ice cream. Are you serious? I just explained to you we just started to eat. I look at her, pause for a second to not respond like I wanted to, and informed her we were not ready for ice cream yet. Point being... during the actual dinner you see them maybe twice after you order but once the "show" (if you want to call it that) is over they are doing everything in their power to get you out. What I love is how at the end when they bring you the bill their attitude/poor customer service skills do a 180 and with a huge smile and in the sweetest tone they say "thank youuuuu." Ummm FYI tip is based on SERVICE. As for food it would be fine if servings were fair across the board. 3 of us ( myself and 2 gentlemen ) ordered the same dish that included chicken. 2 huge breasts and 1 small breast were cooked. You'd figure they be cut up and evenly distributed. Nope. I was given the smaller breast (got half the chicken that each of the other 2 guests received) yet we each paid the same price. Benihana is NOT what it used to be.

Had lunch reservations for 6. Sat us at a across from a full table that was seated just before us and we had to wait for other side to order and have entire their entire meal/show (40 minutes) and grill cleanup before our chef could get in cooking space to prepare our meals. Restaurant not that busy and we should have been seated at our own space to allow for more timely service. Food and everything else was fine.
