Benihana - Indianapolis Ratings and Reviews
I have been here twice. I wasn’t thrilled my first time but years later gave it another chance. A few girl friends and I went for dinner on 2-10 at 4:45. We were finally sat around 5:30. Our server was an older asian lady who was beyond grumpy, and out chef was more annoying than entertaining. It took him over an hour to cook our food and some how “no onions” turned into no veggies at all?! Then my medium steak was cooked well, but we had a 7:00 movie to make, I had to shovel my food in my mouth, I didn’t have time for him to remake it.
We had a reservation we didn't get seated until 45 minutes later we didn't get drinks for 45 minutes after that we were there a total of 3 hours there were no chefs no managers came by and apologize no types of compensation just a restaurant full of people waiting on an available chef if I could give a negative star rating I would
Consistent experience, with varied menu. It was not overly crowded the night we were there. Quick service, even though our table did not fill up right away. Our cook was gracious, and quickly reacted to a couple of omissions - not too much of delay in the other party getting their correct food.
They were packed when we got there. We had to wait for a table even though we had reservations (not long- maybe 10 minutes). The waitress was look irritable and looked like she was exhausted ( it was a madhouse in there so it makes sense). I asked about a few drinks and wasn't given much information. The price for the meal and what you get is significantly less than any other Japanese style steakhouse I have ever been (even ordering double rice, etc.). Would not go back or recommend.
We sat for almost an hour before the chef came to the table. The chef did not know many of the traditional entertaining tricks and we were not entertained. The floor around the restaurant is very dirty and unappetizing. The restaurant looked dirty. The food however, was very good.
Service was very slow, as we had to wait a long time for a cook. Food portions were very small, especially the fried rice, where some received much less than others.
Restaurant needed cleaning.
The service and food quality needs attention.
The Benihana experience is not good.
We drove 90 minutes to get there and, because my husband is wheelchair bound and it takes about 7 minutes to get him out of car, it made us 15 minutes late for our reservation. Instead of being hospitable or helpful after I gave our name and told the person at the door that we were sorry for being late , his only response to us was "You are 15 minutes late for your reservation." I even called to let them know that we were on our way. This was the place that I loved coming to as a teenager and young adult. I thought that this would be a great place to take our son for his 21st birthday. We were seated IN the way, at the entrance of the dining room, where my husband's wheelchair was blocking a clear path for everyone to enter. We had to wait to be seated. Then we had to wait for 4 more people to be seated so that we could order and have a chef come and cook our meal. Our dinner took more than 2 hours! As much as I love Hibachi grill dining, I will not be returning to Benihana Indianapolis. We did not feel welcomed by anyone except our server. I wish I had gotten his name. For HIS SERVICE ALONE, he got a big tip!! Thank you, sir!
We love Benihana, but our experience this particular time went above and beyond! Our chef was Angel and our waiter was Scott. They are both extremely personable and took very good care of us!! They are both well-suited for their positions, and I know they are continuing to develop their skills even though they exceeded my expectations already. The food was delicious, and the ambiance was perfect for our family celebrating birthdays. Our kids LOVE Benihana! We can’t wait to go back for our next special occasion!
I grew up coming to Benihana for special occassions. It was always so magical. I haven't been in a couple of years and feel it has lost its special upscale feeling. Our waitress was rude and it was obvious she wanted us to eat and pay quickly. The food was good but the ambiance and service was disappointing.
We came for a birthday (as we have been doing for about 20 years) and this time had a family member who temporarily needs to eat only salt without iodine. The staff immediately went to work finding out how to make her something enjoyable that would work, and succeeded very well. It was very crowded, but the team tried hard to give us great service. We had a wonderful time.
Made a reservation for 7 pm, was seated around 8 pm...not a good start. After seated, took until at least 8:30 to even get the chef to the table. Finally started eating around 9 and then there were issues with the order, chef was confused about which steaks were supposed to be cooked to which temperatures and started to cook everything to well-done instead of med-rare. When I finally got a refill on my drink, I had to send it back because the glass had something brown caked on the inside in multiple places. Overall, not the experience I would expect when paying around $60-70 per person for a meal. Fun for a novelty, but I won't be going back.
Horrible experience. Took 1 he 45 min for the chef to cone to our table. Other tables sat down after us and were served before us. While they did discount the meal it was still expensive and disappointing. It was for a birthday and that landed flat for the birthday person. Ugh. Won’t be back.
We have been visiting the one in Indianapolis for over 25 years. Love it! We always look forward to our next meal there. The staff is always friendly. The cooks are amazing. The fried rice is the best fried rice I have ever eaten. There are a lot of good places to eat, but Benihana's in
Indianapolis is out favorite.
Seated with other diners who were on their phones the entire meal. Ignored their children. Their conversation on their phones were filled with obscenities. Our chef was apparently filling in and was not entertaining at all and my meal was wrong but still very good. So a lot depends on your fellow diners.

Staff seemed minimal for front and back of house. To go orders seemed to have been lost, there were several empty tables, however not clean or being cleaned. After waiting 15 minutes to be seated, still watching the staff try to keep up with current tables and to go orders, dirty tables still not touched, and no idea of when we would be seated, we left.
This is probably the worse experience we have had at the restaurant. And I hate it, because I LOVE the food here.
We got put at a table that had two extra seats added along with another party. Now, I understand that we wouldn't have a table alone, and that is fine, I like sharing the table with other parties. But when the seats are already a little close, then they shove two more chairs to the table, it was very uncomfortable for all of us. We kept sharing looks with the other party like "you have to be kidding me". The chef was entertaining and great. Our host did not offer anyone at the table the dessert that came with their meal. And when we asked about it he said "yeah, sure, I can get that for you". Like it was something extra we were asking for. For the price we pay here, I expect a little better. I probably won't be going back anytime soon.
