The whole night was a disaster. We waited 35 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. We waited another 30 minutes to get a glass of water. It took two hours to get through dinner and our waiter was less than attentive and the chef seemed stressed out and super tired. The food was mediocre and for the price that is totally unacceptable. We do not plan to go back anytime soon!
I had reservations at 7. When I arrived they told me they were running behind. We had to wait almost an hour to even be seated. Not good if you have children. I was meeting a friend there and she brought her daughter so she was anxious and hungry. We finally were seated. Our waiter had a hard time remembering our drinks and was very slow. He said that he was making all drinks and cocktails by himself, but the whole table (9 in total) has to wait about 20 minutes before we even got a drink. We were eating hibachi style and they had the grill on so our mouths were very dry from the heat. I almost drank my water before he even go the drinks around the table. We finally got a cook and he was the best part of the evening. I could tell he was probably fairly new, but he had high energy and kept the table entertained. I believe his name was Taz. He was the best part of the evening. Our waiter was so slow the whole night. But the cook saved the night. I’m not sure I would come back anytime soon. We didn’t get out of there until about 11:30.
Due to internal issues at this Benihana, I would not recommend going here for the next few months. They fired 97% of the staff so the service is terrible. There was zero Benihana fun. It took us 2 hours to get any food. A girl at our table actually passed out due to low sugar good thing there was a paramedic there eating. They pulled a sushi chef that did not even speak to us. He had to keep leaving to go get stuff. The manager explained 3 days before they fired 97% of staff due to a Ponzi scheme. She took 15% off our bill but with zero Benihana fun it was not worth the $115 we were still billed. We eat here 4-5 times a year but will not be back in 2018.
Horrible! Benihana has always been a personal favorite of mine. After this last experience, I will NEVER return to Indianapolis location!

It took about 35 mins to get water and then another 10 mins to get the drinks we ordered. One girl at our table ordered sushi and they kept getting it wrong. After over an hour they still hadn’t started cooking our food so we left. This isn’t the first time we have had super crappy service there. We won’t be returning.
Food and service was very good. However, the restaurant was so short staffed that we waited 30 minutes after our reservation to be seated, then 60 minutes after that for our chef to arrive at the table. Our wait staff and chef did a very good job given the situation, but the manager should have given patrons an idea of how long the wait was going to be.

The chief we had needs more training. Was quite disappointed however food was still good. Just didn't feel it was cooked like it should have been.
The service was slow. There was way too much pepper on everything and it was way too loud.
I've been to Benihana multiple times but this time was just absolutely awful! It took us almost 5 hours to get through my birthday dinner. My reservation was on a Wednesday at 7:30 pm (for 8 ppl) and we didn't get seated until 9:00 pm and then it took 2 and a half more hours for the actual meal because they didn't have enough chefs and we got stuck with a extremely new person. My parents of course complained to the manager about how long everything took and he knocked off $20 but honestly it all still just left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). It's just sad that I can't its my favorite restaurant anymore 😔
Still can't figure out why we didn't receive my son's Bday certificate for his choice of menu item. We are registered.
Food is fantastic, but it is extremely expensive. We only come twice a year because of the prices. Our family would come a lot more often if it weren't for the high prices.
The food is always very good, but they let most of the wait staff go and the service has been a disaster ever since... The manager Rose is the only redeeming part left, sadly...
We had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation time and then even longer at our table. I’m not sure if they didn’t have enough chefs, but the wait was unusual for having reservations. We were also celebrating our daughters birthday and typically they sing to them and get a special dessert, but they were so busy and we had 2-3 different wait staff that no one acknowledged her birthday. We have always had great experiences at this restaurant so were a little disappointed this trip.
Only thing I didn’t like was they were over booked and we had to wait about 20 mins. Also I don’t like that you have to share table with strangers. So hopefully you’ll get to sit next to fun and nice people. Other than those irritating things. I had great experience
New server as well as new cook. Service was too slow. 2 hours and 15 mins is just too long. Manager needed to take charge.
Went for my birthday. Although my reservations were at 730 we didn't eat until almost 10pm. The food was good but overpriced.

Our waitress for our today was not friendly, she rushed us out, checked her tips in front of us & had arguments with other employees in front of us.
The worst!!! Do not waste your time or money. Haven't been in years and will never go back. Arrived for our reservation and left standing for 45 minutes... the place was dirty and crowded. It looked like Lafayette square mall before it got shut down. Sevice was fair, chef did not prepare enough food for the table and let everyone wait while she prepared another fried rice. Dinner was a four hour ordeal, while the ambience became more ghetto as the evening wore on. So glad to get out of there. Never. Again.
Interior is dated. Intense wind tunnel occurring in front waiting area any time exterior door opened. Understaffed on hibachi chefs so not running on time for reservations. Very loud inside - to be expected to some extent, but our server Tracy was told by our table he was speaking too softly and he did nothing to improve the volume of his speech. Sushi was delicious. Beef cooked on hibachi was tough. Restaurant needs better ventilation/grill hoods; our clothes and hair smelled awful upon departure.
We had a reservation for my son's birthday and was seated 45 minutes later. They didn't have a cook for our table so that took another 15-20 minutes. We ordered an appetizer and got that at the end of the meal. We had to go back and forth to the bar to get drinks because they were too slow. They brought us soup and salad and there was a hair in one. They did discount everyone's meal by $10 bit the bill was still outrageous for the service we got.. will not be going back.
Terrible service will never go back !!!! Had reservations through open table and we arrived they could not find our reservation and made us wait, she finally went and got the manager and looked again, i had to show them my phone to prove we had reservations and by now 20 minutes has gone by and he has the nerve to say it says your reservations were at 415 its now 435 unbelievable never again will i visit or go to this benihana
It was the worst time ever. I was there for my daughter's 13th birthday and it was horrible. We sat there for 2 hours without any food or refills on our drinks. They got our orders wrong when they where cooking them and the cook was very boring for a birthday party.
I’ve been to this restaurant 3 times and have had good service once. I only kept returning because of the food. This past time, During the whole evening our waitress was rude and inattentive. To top it all of my party had completely finished our food and had to wait FORTY FIVE MINUTES before we got a check. I finally had to go to the front desk to get them to find our waitress. They tried to make it right by handing out free appetizer vouchers but I won’t be returning. I have never not given my waiter/waitress a tip but this time I didnt.

Went on a Thursday night and it was very loud, even at eight PM. There wasn't a single Asian cook in the place, which for an Asian food restaurant I kind of expected. the shrimp were way overcooked. The tables are too close together and just kind of in a big open area so there's no separation or privacy even from the other twenty tables around.
Fun time! Good food but can be expensive. Sign up for the birthday club but watch for exclusions.
My boyfriend and I came for Valentine's dinner. Neither if us had ever been before so we were looking for something different. Since there was only the 2 of us, they sat us with 3 other couples. Our server was polite but not very helpful for our group, most of us were first timers. She did keep up on our drink refills but at the end of our entree she did not off to bring our hot green tea, ice cream/sherbet to the table; instead she just asked if we needed any to go boxes, drinks, or if we wanted ice cream to go. My boyfriend and I both ordered, what they advertise as, a 6 course meal so we were caught off guard a bit when she starting asking if we wanted things to go. It almost felt like she was rushing us. The chef we had I believe was a newer employee. He was very fumbly with his utensils, couldn't get the onion volcano to light, had to repeatedly check the tables dinner order ticket and even messed up a couple things, etc. We did not get the full ambiance that other dinner around us got but all in all we really did enjoy our evening. We will return in the future to give them another try!

Service was kind of slow this time. Had a lot of waiting to do even though we had reservations. Would like to come back, but friends did not like that we were there over 2 hours and 25 minutes.
Worst habachi show I’ve ever seen. The chef at the other table was throwing all the great habachi tricks, but our chef ... let’s just say that all of us at the table just kept looking down because we were so embarrassed for her. The server was top notch though. The food was average.
Miss the regular/old chefs. The new ones try, but the showmanship is missing. This time, the food was good but still very slow service. Second try after losing most of the staff. I will seek a new Japanese steakhouse. Rose always has a smile.
