This location is starting to decline in regards to service. We had a reservation for 2 at 7:30 and were told multiple times that we would be seated shortly. We ended up leaving at 8:45pm and went somewhere else.
This was our 1st experience at Benihana. We were recommended by a friend. We went to celebrate my birthday. We made reservations and had arrived early. However, we waited 30 minutes to be seated. The hostess that we checked in with was very rude, we inquired about being seated on 3 different occasions and still waited. There were people who had arrived after us without reservations were seated before us. I spoke with the manager with no solution or apology knowing that it was a special occasion with reservations. I will say the Chef was very nice and pleasant. The food was excellent. The "Birthday" experience where they sing & bring ice cream never happened at all, it was completely overlooked. For a 1st experience, it was not a good one. We will not go back again.

Table available almost an hour late due to lack of servers. Green tea ice cream was not available due to freezer unplugged. Vanilla ice cream was melting when served. Had been to Benihana many times and this was one that is not so great
Going to Benihana in Indianapolis used to be such a wonderful experience, but recently that has NOT been the case. I took my son and niece here on a Wednesday evening with a 6:30pm reservation. We were not seated until after 7pm. After being seated, we were not greeted for at least another 15 minutes. When the server did finally greet us, it was very clear she was overwhelmed and "in the weeds" as they call it. She asked if we would mind waiting while she closed out another table, which we all agreed to. Finally she did take our orders. We had been waiting so long, we just gave her our entire order, including food to try to expedite the process. We were finally served waters, but the adult beverages ordered by another party at our table took 15-20 more minutes to receive, along with the kids frozen drinks I ordered. The food, once we finally got it was good...No complaints at all about the chef. But the service was awful and it really spoiled the whole experience. I felt bad for our server as she was doing her best. She was just spread entirely too thin. They did not have enough staff to take care of the customers. Period. Unfortunately, I don't know if we'll be back. It was a LONG night with 2 little ones. I think management has really fallen off here. It's sad because we really loved coming here. I know for certain, we were not the only ones with this experience that evening. It wasn't even busy...just a very youthful, green, shorthanded staff with little to no direction.
I go to Benihana every year for my birthday. I love the food, and appreciate the birthday coupon. If you like Hibachi cooking, I think it is the best in Indy.
Place has REALLY gone downhill. Dirty,dirty. Bathroom was filthy, food was just ok.
We have been going to this restaurant for 25 years. It is the worst i have ever seen it!!
The dining experience was not how great I remember it to be from a few years ago. Very disappointing
Food wasn't cooked at the way and was very small portions. Smaller than normal. The guy that served us was new so I kind of understand but at the end of the day I paid a lot of money for our meals and feel it wasn't worth it this time.
We had a waiter who said several times that he was new within the last month and "please be patient." We had a chef who did not speak English, so we could not ask for anything special or try to correct errors. Our order was wrong in a couple of ways and could not really be rectified. Others at our table had the same issue and worse, their birthday coupon did not have the barcode and the only person who could override that was not in that day (this is what the staff told her). Another woman at the other end of the table continuously complained about the new owners. In the end, the food was okay, though not exactly what we ordered. I used a birthday coupon, so I could not really complain.
Benihana is one of my favorite restaurants, but today I was disappointed. The person cooking for us stated he was new and some of my food was not done (chicken) spoiled my whole appetite. The manager did give me half off my meal but the damage already done, lost my appetite.
Birthday dinner with a friend. Overall good experience. Most of the food lacked enough flavor. Also, I ordered shrimp fried rice and I got chicken fried rice. The martini I had was delicious.
The only thing I didn't like was when checking in with the hostess it was hectic and kind of unorganized
We love Benihana usually and go there very often. Service was poor. Not enough waitresses although the restaurant was only half full when we got there but by the time we were finished with dinner there was a crowd waiting to be seated. Seems to be all new staff and no one knew what they were doing. Our chef was very good when he finally got to our table.
Outside of restaurant should have been our first clue to what our night was going to be like. Needs new landscaping, a tree is blocking the sign to restaurant - place just looks run down.
Service was terrible. Server very rarely came to the table to check on drinks. Alcoholic “special menu drinks” were completely weak and sugary. Took over an hour to get the cook to our table and then he cooked one thing at a time - which took well over an hour for a table of 8. No real showboating (which is the main reason our kids choose hibachi in the first place). We won’t be back.
Good food, place seemed a bit dated and dirty.
We went for my wife’s birthday and had an outstanding time as always. The food was great, the atmosphere was great and the staff did well to make my children comfortable as well.
Food was good but we waited 15 minutes past our reservation time to be seated then 15 before someone came to take our drink order. It was another 15 minutes before he took our meal order. The chef was cooking appetizers before we got soup and people needed refills that didn't get them. Our salad came after appetizers. Long wait for ice cream and another long wait for check. Our reservation was 6:15 and we left at 8:30.
I was really disappointed. We went to celebrate my birthday and they would not honor their birthday club certificate. I understand why, but the manager could have been nicer about it. We had to ask for refills and the ice cream that came with our child's meal. For the price, I would expect better service.
We have celebrated many birthdays here. This time was not as good as others. We had a new chef who was slow and didn't give even portions of food. Our waiter was awful! He was very nervous and not very attentive. Not a great experience this time.
Had a reservation on Open Table to only find that the wait was still going to be a hour. A lot of unhappy customers one even got so loud the person checking us in called the police which was stopped after the manager stepped in. But once seated we had to sit with the unhappy customer as well as his family that the police were called. So truly was not happy to have such a angry upset person at the same table with me and my guest. Expressed that to the manager whom simply brushed it off.
Our chef Taz was fabulous and the food was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. Our waiter was a little overwhelmed and challenged. We had to make several requests for simple things like drink refills. Over all made for a great Birthday celebration dinner!
Our reservation was not found
This was the worst restaurant I have been to. We were seated with three children, one of which dropped a crayon on the grill which the parents did not pick up. The chef then retrieved the crayon when he finally arrived which was 20 minutes after we were seated. The crayon had already begun to melt. The chef cleaned it up byt did not use any cleaner. The chef also used the same knife to cut chicken, seafood and red meat using only his dirty towel between uses to wipe it off. I don't know how this place hasn't been shut down. Oh, and my clothes smelled horrible after leaving. Had to take a shower when I got home to get the smell out of my hair.
Our chef Jorge was awesome, he joked with our table the whole time.
Our waiter was horrible, he never came around for drink refills and in fact the only time he came around was to bring the check.
My only comment is the space seemed dated and it was dirty. The restrooms were a mess.
The chef was excellent and our server was very helpful. The atmosphere is loud so don’t plan on having in depth conversations.
Server never returned to the table. Everyone ran out of drinks. Will never go back
Celebrated my sons 25th birthday and Renaldo was amazing!!
Great food. Restaurant was a little dirty on the floor and crowded! Will go back but the place could use upgrade with chairs and floor

love this place ! food is always great ! even tho the last time we were there our chef was new and we were his first table ever, he still did awesome!!!!!!!!
We arrived 35 minutes early. We waited about 15 minutes past our reservation time before being seated. Our waitress focused, mainly on certain guest at our grill. She brought me a drink in a glass that wasn't clean. She took her time bringing me another drink. We set a long time before a cook came to prepare our food. He (Matt) dropped his cooking fork, picked it up and kept cooking. I saw him pick it up off the floor. One of my friends arrived late. The waitress had only brought out drinks and salad. She refused to take my friend's order. But about 5 minutes later she changed her mind. I was going to walk out on this note. Since we waited so long for a cook, I didn't see a problem. I was told that this was a great place to dine. Our waitress left a sour taste in my mouth for your restaurant.
not equipped with enough staff to handle the customers... had a reservation and still waited 45 minutes with children...not the easiest.. not the waiter/chef's problem but should fall on management!

Had a reservation for 8, got seated about 8:45pm. Seem like the place was interested in get people in the door and not really help who is there. Place needed cleaning is over priced. May not go back.
Our server happened to be the manager and we were forgotten, the food was wonderful and the chef did an amazing job. They were very understaffed. We did not recieve the full experience and for the cost very disappointed
Informed Chef Taz it was my fiance birthday and that he has a mushroom allergy. I notated on the reservation comment section in regard to the mushroom allergy. My fiance requested Chef Taz to use different cooking utensils if other guest at the table were to get mushrooms. He used the same utensils after 5 other people requested mushrooms. Please inform your staff a food allergy can be deadly. Especially after seeing someone leave in an ambulance due to an allergy reaction. What a waste of $50 for food we could not eat during to this situation. Birthday dinner ruined. Chef Taz was never rude. He did read the request out loud about the mushroom allergy but he did not honor the request of using different cooking utensils.
