Benihana - Houston Ratings and Reviews
I had reservations for 6 at 9:15 in which I was immediately seated. We waited 45 minutes for a chef to come to our table to cook our meal and the chef was not personable at all like my previous experiences. I have been an avid Benihana goer but my experience on Thursday 2/15 was lack luster and unacceptable. When the chef cooked our food after we waited 45 minutes for someone to come to the table the rice had hard grains in it which it was over cooked. In addition, due to the wait one the managers stated he would get us a percentage off due to the long wait and it not being the Benihana standard. The rice was taken off our bill due to the hard grains in it but we didn’t receive the percentage off our bill like we were told. We asked for the corporate number from Tommy and she began to be very condescending when discussing our poor experience.
Overall this experience was terrible on this particular day and I’m really debating if I should ever go again.
2 issues during our dinner. We had ordered and extra order of chicken fried rice and only recieved 2. Took a while to get the 3rd order to us. Then my husband ordered the trio plate. He only got the shrimp and steak and they forgot to give him the chicken. Had to wait again for that to be brought and cooked. And it was all on the ticket. All we heard was im sorry from the cook.
When we arrived we were seated right on time. After we ordered our drinks then out came our chef and after the food was cooked the lady setting next to me ask the waitress if a friend could join the table which over crowded our table. The table is not big enough for 9 people. The waitress should have not agreed. It will be awhile before we come back.

I enjoy this restaurant for the ambiance. There is something very intimate about watching your food being prepared. Of course, there is always the very skilled cook with their entertaining preparations. There seemed to be quite a few birthdays this particular evening and I could have gone without the birthday song for myself (heard it about 6 times....which is 5 times too many). Maybe they could save the song for children 12 and under? Anyway, the food was delicious. I had the salmon cooked medium. The service was good and the pricing is fair. I will go back. Thanks for a memorable evening!
The food was good and so was the chef. The waitress wasn’t that great! This was my first time at this location and I’ll probably never visit that one again. The waitress just wasn’t very attentive and we waited forever for our check.
I’ll visit the one I’m use to going to, but never this location again. For $120, the service could have been better.
Had a reservation for 9:15. Didn’t get seated until after 10pm. Hostess wasn’t nice and didn’t seem to care we made reservations for a reservation. I was LATE because we were sat so late and I missed by other birthday event. Will not be dining at this location again.
Lots of fun and delicious food. Our cook at the hibachi table, Juan, made the food even more delicious than usual. We go regularly for various special occasions, and it is always good, but yesterday it was outstanding. The freshness and flavor were outstanding
The chef wasn’t entertaining in the slightest. The fried rice didn’t have great flavor and the dressing on the salad wasn’t my favorite compared to other hibatchi restaurants. My husband and I both ordered a six course meal, ending with ice cream or sorbet. They brought my birthday ice cream out but didn’t for my husband. I was expecting a lot better experience from Benihana.
The meal was great. The waiters were very attentive but they cheated us out of 2 of our courses hoping we didn’t read the menu. The meals come with hot green tea and the specialities section comes with ice cream in addition to the soup salad rice and entree. We did not receive either. Very disappointing.
Was disappointed on how the hostess would not leave room for one of my guest to join the table. Then she kept stating that all of my party had to be in the building but she seated another party that did not have everyone there. Also didnt like that they had a Holiday menu with a limited selection and that was not posted on the website because i checked before i made the reservation.
We had reservations at 6:30 party of 10 and we waited an additional 30 minutes to be seated. We were told to wait in the bar and they would call us. There was an empty table that needed to be cleaned it had food and napkins on it. The wait staff just kept walking by it as we stood next to it waiting for someone to clean it off so we could sit down. After 15 minutes I finally asked the waiter to clean it off. She took a rag and swept the loose food from the table onto the floor??? We won’t be going back. The restaurant was dirty. This was our 3rd year in a row going to Benihana’s for our kids birthday.
We were served by an obviously new cook. We have been before many times, and always loved it, but not this time. He cooked all out of order, and did only a few of the things that most cooks do that are fun and skillful.
The rice did not have anywhere near enough Soy Sauce, and we had to ask for more, and the whole table had us pass it around. Then we realized that he never gave us our two sauces for our main foods. He had served the main foods but said we had to speak to the waitress about the dishes for the sauces. Well, we could not find her. Finally, after a long time, I got up and found someone to bring the dishes for him to put the sauces on.
It was my wife's birthday, and they knew that, and they came and sang, took a picture, and then never gave it to us, or told us how to get it. The waitress came to me, and asked if I wanted ice cream and I said yes, thinking she was bringing something for my wife, and she neither asked my wife about ice cream or served her anything! We finally gave a low tip and left, really mad.
