Benihana - Houston - Downtown
Passion fruit tea was delicious!
The servers were completely rude and unattentive . From the time my friend and I wanted in the door the light skin girl at the counter was very rude . Nasty attitude . The server at the table gave me a glass that had old food smudged on it . And it took her 30 minutes to return with my new drink .
Tommy the manager does not deserve to be one. The chef Jacob we have had him three times we ask for salt, peper, or garlic butter on certain parts of our food his response is that is not how BENIHANA does it. Each time same response.
Food was just okay. The strip steak had no flavor. We had a new cook and he left out some veggies in his fried rice. Only good thing was the fried rice was free because it was national fried rice day.
Downtown location is old, and our table's location was next to the kitchen so ambiance wasn't good.
The cooks cart was not very well stocked, so no garlic butter on the entrees that advertise it. The restaurant was very hot, even with the addition of two portable AC units in the dining area.
This was a very disappointing experience, the steak was terrible. It had no seasoning and I think the meat may have even been past it’s best used by date. I have really been disappointed by Benihana the last few times I’ve been there. The food is way overpriced for the quality of food.
Attended for birthday celebration of 2 co-workers. Quality of food was the same, however a few other items were below standards. We were seated in back of restaurant that was not even crowded, the room smelled of mildew, and had stand-up units for air conditioning. Apparently, the AC was not working. Additionally, upon singing of birthday song, our guest requested the complimentary birthday picture and she was informed the camera did not work - team member was very disappointed at this point due to the build-up of items stated above.
Hostess ignored my statement about having a reservation. I thought I had made a reservation for hibachi service. She told us we would have wait at least 15 minutes. Being a work day, we didn't have that luxury to wait, so we ended up eating in the "lounge" instead. Service felt rushed. Food was subpar for the price. Ordered lunch duet with shrimp and scallops. Shrimp was small and rubbery. I could have gotten better food in the tunnel.
It was my boyfriend’s first time at Benihana and he enjoyed every moment of the dinner! His birthday was a success because of the great vibe and ambiance.
The manager Tommy literally called us our for our notes in regards to the AC. Tommy asked another manager out loud where do we sit the AC people at. After requesting the AC to be working properly. The Downtown Benihana's has fans & AC units with ducks coming down the ceiling to provide some sort of cooling. Tommy definitely needs an updated management training course of some sort. The waiter & chef are excellent.
I was very disappointed as I'd never been before and expected better. The service was fine, the food was fine but there is something wrong with the A/C and the ventilation. There were billows of greasy smoke blowing over us from the table grill next to us. It was awful. I was afraid I was going to have an asthma attack and we reeked of grilling fish and meat when we left. Our hair and clothes were foul. People at our table were coughing and their eyes burning. It was awful and that cannot be normal. They had some big floor unit (either A/C or dehumidifier) that was making it worse by blowing it directly towards us. We will never go back.
I decided to give Benihana a second chance after my initial experience was not very good. The food was consistent, but unfortunately not very good. The sauce is worse than most other Hibachi grills I've been to and the meat was not seasoned well at all. The hibachi chef ended up slinging an onion from the grill and burned my fiance's arm. Asked staff for some ice after telling them that it burned her arm and got no ice or apology.
Awesome food with prices to match, but still affordable. The staff does a great job and is very consistent as I’ve been here a couple of times. Perfect for dates or group parties; everyone will have a great time.
We were celebrating our nieces graduation
Food great .. facility dirty
Lugar muy recomendable
The food was very good. The service was also good. The issue was that I was taking my wife out for a nice night on the town. My past experiences at Benihanas have been great and were generally business casual or maybe jeans and nice shirts. The sign on the front door stated proper attire required, but it was not enforced. T-shirts, shorts, mini skirts, etc were common dress. I was not expecting suit and tie, but this was way off. In addition, the ventilation in the building was not adequate. There were portable AC units around the restaurant, which made the noise level way higher. But, the food was great and the service was friendly and prompt.
Horrible food was unseasoned. Didn’t even have teriyaki on anything. Way too much money for horrible food and horrible service
Waitress was very nice.
Celebrating my friend’s birthday
My cook, my waitress, my experience for my birthday was perfect. The food was flavorful and my service was great. I am happy I chose Benihana to celebrate
Food not seasoned well. Not worth the money. Kobe steakhouse is way better.
This place is awesome!!! The chef Ivan was really good at his job he made my family and feel very welcomed.. would of been perfect but our waitress got our order wrong and left the grill off.. a lil overpriced, but overall great restaurant!!
Everything was great! Our chef Doan was phenomenal! All of our food was cooked to perfection.
The food was yummy as always and the service was great. It's always a treat to eat at Benihana when we are going to be downtown
The food is so good for the price we'd paid. Outstanding and definitely would reccomend this restaurant to anyone.
Wonderful place to eat and enjoy, food and drinks are awesome
Terrible waiter, no idea what he was doing. Should study up a bit on Japanese cuisine and saki...
Benihana delight is my favorite dish. We come here all the time to celebrate birthdays. It's a very nice family oriented place!
I absolutely loved the experience especially with our chef Charlie he was just so funny and enthralling that he kept us entertained the entire time. The food was amazing as well
Great food. Great chef. Outstanding atmosphere. Great drinks
The air conditioning must have been broken or something. Was very hot. Usually it’s cold so we had worn pants. Hibachi grills everywhere. Tons of people and had A/C do not make for a comfortable dining experience.
Plus the taste seasoning wasn’t what we have come to expect... and for some reason it took almost 2 hours for our meal. Usually we’re in and out around 50-75 mins at the most. Oh well.
Our party of 6 went to Benihana’s to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. It was a horrible experience and we will not return. The air conditioner in the building was not working adequately and with the grills going it was so hot in there that it was unenjoyable. I asked if the door could be opened to circulate air and they said no and when the manager noticed that I was fanning myself he came over and asked if I was ok and I said no. He didn’t offer to do anything for us to remedy the situation. My husband jokingly asked for icecream and he did bring him a cup of ice cream but that didn’t do anything to correct the problem or make it ok. I ended up having to leave to go to the restroom for a while to splash water on my face to cool down. It was a horrible experience
There were 3 bartenders behind the bar and the lounge/bar area was virtually empty and yet the service was extremely slow. Then they wrang my beer up at the wrong price. Then i had to wait for a manager to correct the charge (they would not void and re ring the beer for the correct price). my party was sat and had to wait for me to straighten it out. The AC was out and so they had a portable AC unit going but sitting around the Hibatchi grill with no AC was horrible. Not sure why they didn't contact us and let us know they were having AC issues...we had a reservation with contact information. I assumed they wanted our business and were banking on the hope we would stay and eat there...not concerned about our comfort. And finally, after all this, the wait staff didn't sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the birthday girl who was ALSO a 1ST TIMER at Benihanas. I asked the host twice if they could sing to our birthday girl and they ignored our request. Sad really, because there were several bdays so she heard the other bday people being sung too and got neglected. With Benihanas reputation, i expect so much more. I have been to other Hibatchi gril restaurants and i would put Benihanas at the bottom of that list. Sorry, telling all my friends...BAD ...JUST BAD.
Entertaining chef. Ok food. Horrendous service.
Party of Six reservation for 7:15. 5 of us show up at 7 but we can’t get seated until last person’s here, which is fine. But the hostess got an attitude and said I need to seat you now (15 mins before reservation) or else you might lose table. Sixth person shows up a minute BEFORE 7:15 and hostess says well your whole party didn’t arrive at the same time, so now these other people are ahead of you.
Also, once seated, the most incompetent waiter I’ve ever had in this city. Something stupid was wrong with every course.
Amazing atmosphere and great service. We sat at the tapinyaki bar and the chef was funny and entertaining. We were in Houston for vacation and really enjoyed our date night
Still one of our favorites! A repeater!
