Benihana - Fort Lauderdale Ratings and Reviews
Total lack of ambience...cold and sterile environment, tables are so small and expect 8!!! yes 8 people to sit around table that maybe 6 SMALL people could fit around and the table next to you has chairs hitting yours! Shocked...I love Benihana and love the one in Stewart and Cincinnati, but wow...not good. The salad and soup was the same as any other B...very good. The sauces were weird and tasted totally different...and the sauces are a big plus for us! Esp the mustard sauce... The YUM YOUM sauce....no thanks... Not impressed for a 70.00 plus lunch with NO alcohol even!
MY EXPERIENCE WAS TERRIBLE I arrived early went to the bar to order some drinks. I asked the bartender for the blue ocean drink for $28 the bartender advised they don't have the ingredients for the blue ocean so I had to order the red flower which was $37.00. I was very appalled that a big restaurant like benihanas Then the seated us in the back on a wall where we had no room to move. The WAITER then ASKED IF ANYONE WAS CELEBRATING A BIRTHDAY I told her it was my boyfriends birthday which I advised when making a reservation. They did sing at someone else table but did not bother to sing at ours. In this case why ask if you was not going to sing happy birthday :(
We went to celebrate my Aunts' 60th Birthday and were so disappointed. Our chef Chan was rude and non entertaining. While we could hear the chef at the table across from ours making jokes and doing trick our chef refused to entertain us. The problem started after we placed our orders and was later told by our waitress that the kitchen was out of scallops and we needed to change our order or have more shrimp. Three of us elected to change our order and this must have become very confusing to the chef. Despite our waitress writing down our order he asked all seven of us sitting at the table to repeat our orders three different times. On the third time my mom asked the chef was he new. This must have offended him because his demeanor changed he said, "I will go and get you a different chef that's not new since you think I'm new." We apologized to Chan and advised him that the question wasn't meant to be offensive but it was already to late. His attitude was rude for the rest of dinner. I begged him to do some tricks to entertain us and he refused. He said, "You are hungry so I must cook your food no time to entertain." At this point I asked my brother to get his phone and start recording our disappointing chef because nobody will believe this disappointing experience. Apart of our order was the fried rice and he didn't take the time to brown the rice he was in such a rush. We asked for Yum Yum sauce he said it was all gone come back tomorrow. No Yum Yum sauce, No scallops, No Entertainment, No good service!
Our waitress Gina did witness his bad attitude. We asked to speak with the manager Jazmin Reyes. She apologized and gave us a $50 dollar off gift card for five people to use the Next time they decide to travel from West Palm Beach to Ft. Lauderdale to be disappointed. Wow, Benihana's I expect you to do better!
The tableside food prep they're known for was first class and enjoyable, but the server (drinks, order taker) was terrible. It was a Monday, and the place was crowded, which may have surprised them in their staff planning for the night leaving her overworked, but even after I mentioned the things she'd forgotten it didn't get much better. The food is high quality and good, but it had been a while since I'd been and I might not have realized how simple the recipes are. It's really just grilled chicken, steak, and shrimp, and while eating it immediately after it's prepared was good, the flavors weren't anything outstanding, just fresh. But the chicken fried rice was fantastic! Better value than I expected.
We made reservations for no reason at all… When we arived we had to waite for those who did not make a reservation before they would seat us at a table. Even after we were seated we had to waite and see if anyone eles was coming, to complete the already tight seating arrangement. For years we have made Benihana’s a special place to go on our Anniversary, Birthdays, and to entertain family members when they came to town: however, over the past few years it appeared the restaurant was slowly failing. We first noticed when there were no more Japanese chefs. from there on we notice that cleanliness was dissipating. Our last visit was disgusting. When we aproached our table, I had to asked to have our section of the table cleaned before we could set down. the carpet, tables, and chairs, were tacky from grease, everthing you touched was sticky and dirty. I went to the restroom and you would think you steped into an outhouse. It made me want to hold my breath until I could go out and injoy my expensive dinner.
Our server was good and our chef could cook, however, you would be hard-pressed to believe you were in a Japanese restaurant.
I will try another Benihana in the local area, but if they too have stooped to an unclean and none Japanese environment I won't be returning, and you can rest assured, that I will be telling evrery person I know of my experience. Very disappointing
I ordered steamed rice with my meal and was given fried rice as the waitress did not write down the order. When the checks came, it included other customers meals and I told her ordered steamed rice not fried rice and she told me, we gave it to you so need to pay for it. How rude..
Took my 7yr old son for his first time , he loved it love it love it. Was very impressed by the chef and the volcano , he loved the food the ambience, he was All smile , he said he will definitely come back again & again. Still talking about it to his friends from school. Thanks 👍👍. Job well done
This place has horrible seating arrangements. Very tightly spaced seating. I understand that a friday night can be unbelievably busy but we waited 30 mins for a table although we had a reservation. There was no wait area available so we had to sit outside on the curb while waiting for our table. The floors are terribly slippery. Dressed in heels I almost fell 3 times just attempting to go to the bathroom. There were not enough cooks tableside and after waiting for 30 mins passed our reservation time we waited another HOUR for a cook to arrive. Our reservation was for 915 pm. We did not get a cook until 1045. Then only to find out the menu options are quite different from the other Benihana just 20 mins west and they were out of yakisoba. It was a poor experience for me since i've come to associate superiority with this brand.
Food and service was less than expected. My order wasn't filled completely. The chef was nice, however he seemed overwhelmed and gave part of my meal to the lady sitting next to me. The floor was disgusting, the bathroom was even worse. This was to be a special night with my husband and stepson to celebrate his birthday. This was disappointing to say the least. We won't go back.
I made my reservations for 8pm. I got there early to enjoy Happy Hour, since my table wasn’t going to be ready until 8. I was called 5mins after I begun Happy hour. After being seated so soon, it threw the vibe off for me for the night. (Celebrating my birthday)
After reading a few negative reviews, and having been there many previous times with very good results, I was a little worried about taking 9 of my family there for dinner. Had 6:45 reservations and was seated by 7:00. Robert, the manager came by to check on our table a few times to make sure everything was fine. Jason was our chef, although his name tag was upside down, so we called him "Nosaj", and our waitress was Ashley, both took care of all our needs and requests. Nosaj was very clever and entertaining throughout the meal. Both earned a very good tip. Re: all the negative comments, All of us had a very enjoyable evening and hats off to Robert.
Arrived at 8:40 for 8:45 reservation. Checked in and was greeted very professionally. Told our table should be ready in 10-15 minutes and to please wait in the bar for some drinks and sushi.
Hi-Top tables that were empty were filthy dirty. Wet and plates and glasses left on them. We took a seat at the very far end of the bar. Also, dirty top and wet. We had to clean and wipe the bar down. Ordered 2 drinks. Bartender was very nice. Waited 20 minutes and we were called in for our table.
Brought to our table and then waited for 10 minutes before our Server approached and took drink and appetizer orders. Restaurant was also hot (and not just because we were sitting at a Hibachi grill). Hot in the lobby and in the bar.
Food was good and the chef did a nice job with the usual showmanship.
Facility was not good and the service was substandard.......pretty disappointing for a once in a while experience like Benihana.
First let me start by saying I LOVE Benihana. I have been going to Benihana for 40 years and I still regularly visit the Coral Springs store. Tonight we thought we would try the Fort Lauderdale location because it’s actually closer to our new home. What a disappointment. I knew the moment we sat down when I looks at the grill (pictures attached). It was filthy. Every Benihana I have ever dined at cleans the grill perfectly after each meal. Worse yet, the “chef” after he cleaned the grill before the meal needed to be asked by another guest to clean the grill further because there was still an abundance of grease and food left on there. By the way, I won’t mention the chefs name because he was very nice but obviously completely under trained. Putting aside the grill episode, we were already served the salad and soup and the drinks had still not been served. At this point, I asked to speak to the manager 3 times and he never came to the table. I had to get up and go to the reception area. Again, this gentlemen was very nice and basically served us for ten minutes but that changed nothing. Now the end of the meal. Because the chef has not been adequately trained, he served all of the chicken dishes before preparing me the filet which was supposed to be medium rare so it was cooked like a piece of shoe leather. They did offer to cook a new steak and I declined so it was taken off the bill.
In closing, I would strongly advise anyone in this area to avoid this restaurant like the plague. It was truly a terrible experience.
I have been eating at Benihana (this one and others) for years. Sadly, the quality of the food and experience has gone downhill. This restaurant in particular has really suffered - cleanliness, noise level, run down looking, etc. The hibachi table was dirty with food from the last guests all around it (and on the grill), the floor was filthy, etc. I'm sure the large number of guests and turnover makes it difficult to clean between parties but it was pretty gross.
My favorite restaurant to celebrate my birthday. While the food tasted as great as ever, had a 20 minute wait even with a reservation. In addition, even though our chef didn’t put on much of a show, it took a long time to cook the food. Luckily our server did a great job keeping refreshments coming.
We have a very nice birthday lunch for a co-worker. 2 complaints - 1) the slowness of sitting us, getting the drinks and starting the cooking and settling the bill. 2) Forgot to include the 2nd filet mignon when cooking - had to get it and cook as we were eating. We were on our lunch hour so limited time as we had to return to the office. Waitress and cook were both great - very friendly and the young man cooking was very entertaining. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
