Benihana - Fort Lauderdale Ratings and Reviews
I've been going to Benihana for as long as I can remember. I really enjoy the food and the fun atmosphere. But the one in Fort Lauderdale is the worst one I've ever been to. Six of us dined there recently to celebrate a family birthday and we were sorely disappointed with the whole experience, starting with the reservations. When I got there to check in, they couldn't find my reservations and gave me attitude. That is because they never bothered to change it to 30 minutes later as I requested when I called earlier that day. Then it went downhill from there. There were many very basic details overlooked by both the server and the chef, including the vegetables that accompany the entrees, the rice that accompanied the children's entrees, the sauces, and the picture that they take and print to commemorate celebrations. When the framed picture finally came out, only 4 people were in it and the other two people's heads were cut off from the nose down. By the way, the server never came out once during dinner to refill our glasses or ask if we needed anything else. Worst experience ever. My husband told me I will have to go to Benihana with my friends as he hates it there. Everytime we go there, it's gotten worse, and I'm afraid he's to say he's justified in never wanting to dine there again.
Nice place, on the water but needs some remodeling, its old and has that musty smell. We went for Bday and it was ok, not great, the cook was good, service was ok, but not great. Maybe Mondays are not there best day. Mgt needs to paint, clean and re do the interior a bit. That will keep it on top like some of there other locations
i have to come here when I get that Benihana fried rice craving. It's so gooooood. The seafood, steak, chicken... You can't go wrong. If you haven't seen the chef performance, then it's worth seeing it at least once. Kids are completely enthralled with it. Most chefs are rather funny and entertaining. The food, while salty, is delicious!
Went to celebrate a birthday, it was rather late at night we were one of the last people seated, when we were seated we told them right away we were celebrating a birthday, during the course of the meal we heard the birthday song sung at least 3 different times and was looking for ward to it, at the end of the meal we were let down by the waitress asking us if we still wanted the song sung, and after we said yes only 2 people came to sing the song, I understand again it was late, but it was quite a let down and what felt like a reluctant performance, I'm sorry we kept you a few more minutes than you wanted to stay but it made what otherwise would have be an outstanding night, just not as outstanding. The chef, food and even the other family we were seated with were all great, we all enjoyed our meals, the drinks the table right by the water, everything was perfect but the final song.
We dined on a busy Saturday night. The reservation was for 9:30 but they were able to seat us sooner than expected. The food was excellent. The restaurant even provided free Sushi for those patrons who were waiting. The reason that I did not rate the restaurant higher is due to the rice machine breaking. I was given brown rice and someone was provided with free fried rice, which was fine but someone at our table never received any rice. The management tried to make her happy; however, she was not from Florida so she would not be able to use the free appetizer card. That night was her birthday and her disappointment angered people in my party. I as I am sure she, wanted a perfect night. I think her meal should have been complimentary. That solution would have made her happy. I understand that machines break, but I felt bad for the woman.
We waited for 45 minutes with reservations. We sat and waited another 1.5 hrs. for a chef. He finally came and did not have enough dishes for sauces. He seemed new. We got our food and he forgot to make our shrimp appetizer. The restaurant was almost empty and we were still waiting for our food to be finished cooking. Also, the vent above the table was dripping oil on to my plate. We finally finished and the valet almost crashed my car on the ramp. I was furious!
I have been to several Benihana's throughout North America, and this is by far the worse dining experience I've had. The service was TERRIBLE, we were given a new waitress with very little knowledge of the English language, and as a result it was a disaster. There were three separate groups at our table, and all were VERY upset with the service and repeatedly having to ask for our drinks and eventually our check. The chef was very good and so was the food, but the service made this visit a DISASTER. Stay away.
We made reservations and arrived on time. After 20-25 minutes, we still hadn't been seated. Hostesses were too busy chit chatting among themselves to even let us know what was holding up being seated. When we turned the blinking device back into them, we said "if we had arrived 20 minutes late for the reservation, you wouldn't have honored it and just treat us like a walk-in. Why did we bother making a reservation.
They said nothing and we walked out.
I have been here many many times. We had carlos as our chef again. For the second time He was more worried about entertaining us and being funny (which he wasnt. It was more annoying) instead of cooking our food well. He served us burnt vegetables, unseasoned meat and fish and didnt have the right portions or cups for our rice. If i saw him as my chef again i may not stay. Waste of time and money. He dropped a sauce cup while he was "entertaining" us and a piece hit me in the eye and he wasnt concerned at all. Just kept making jokes. Annoying. He shouldnt be a chef there.
We had our small office party at the Fort Lauderdale Benihana restaurant. Since most of our group had a gluten free dietary requirement, the chef did oblige. The food was good, and the luncheon price was very reasonable. We all had a nice time away from the office.
Got seated in the bar area for lunch which is not a problem. Waitress was very slow in getting orders and when food came out, mushrooms were on all the entrees and in the soup even though we requested no mushrooms when ordering. My order was completely wrong when the food was ready. So my boyfriend's food was ready a good ten mins before mine. Overall the food was worse than when we were here a year ago. We wanted to leave and it took us another ten mins to get the waitress' attention. Will Not be going back to the this restaurant.
Experience was typical for Benihana because they prepare the food the same way every time. We were at this location a month ago for my dad's birthday and the only Japanese chef prepared our meal. He did the jumping shrimp into the hat and the flaming volcano. However, on this visit we had an American chef and he did not do those aspects of the meal prep. When I asked him about this he said they were trying out some new aspects of the menu. He also prepared the vegetables at the end differently. So I was a little disappointed because I had my son and his 2 friends as well and they love that aspect of the dinner prep. Overall a great meal. Just food for thought for any higher ups who read this.
We were seated 25 minutes late. The chef was not entertaining at all. He cooked the food in some crazy order which never gave you any of your meal at one time.
Very noisy. Only good thing we're the people we sat with they were nice.
I will not be visiting this place again.
There are far better Habachi places clos by to pick from.......
WE USUALLY COME HERE ONCEA MONTH, THE KIDS LOVE IT AND THE FOOD IS PRETTY GOOD. THIS LAST TIME NOT ONLY WAS OUR SERVER WHO'S NAME WAS SUSAN WAS SO RUDE AND COMPLETELY NOT INTERESTED IN BEING HELPFUL, WE ORDERED A SAPPORO BEER AND SHE BROUGHT IT OVER IN A CAN! SHE SAID THEY RAN OUT OF BOTTLES, A $9.50 CAN OF BEER IS RIDICILOUS AND IT TASTE HORRIBLE. SHE GAVE US AN ATTITUDE ABOUT TAKING IT BACK AND IT WENT DOWNHILL FROM THERE. SHE TOLD US THAT SINCE WE WERE SHARING A MEAL, AND WE HAD ALREADY ORDERED 2 OTHERS FOR OUR KIDS, THAT WE COULD ONLY HAVE 1 SOUP AND 1 SALAD, EVERY OTHER TIME WE HAVE BEEN THERE THE SERVERS WOULD ALWAYS GIVE US ONE OF EACH. THE WAIT IS ALWAYS HORRENDOUS TO START YOUR ACTUAL MEAL BUT THIS SERVER WAS TERRIBLE AND MADE OUR FAMILY DINNER JUST AWFUL. WONT BE GOING BACK.
Went on a Friday night expecting an adult evening out and the restaurant was filled with children and birthdays. Not what we expected and really disappointing. If you go, go with at least 4 to 6 other friends so you can take up an entire table. Our "chef" didn't feel it was necessary to put on the requisite show for just 4 people at our hibachi table. All in all, just okay. Definitely not running back there.
I had a reservation for 7:30. At 8pm they gave me a buzzer/beeper. When I asked why I was getting a beeper when I had a reservation at 7:30, they said that they are short on chefs and that one would not be available for about an hour. When I asked what the point of having a reservation is, they said a large party walked in right before us. I told them that they should have made that party wait if they knew they were short on chefs and we had a reservation. They didn't care, they continued to offer for us to sit at the table but still informed us a chef would not be available for at least an hour. We left and went to JAlexanders. Me and my party will not be returning.
It's classic Japanese steakhouse - you go for the spectacle. They wait until the table is relatively full so if other people are late, you are not served until then .. We've always enjoyed the steakhouse experience (the volcano, the shrimp tails that the chef tosses into his Chef's hat or pocket etc) but I found the attention to detail (like a medium rare request for the steak) is a little lacking. All in all, an exuberant environment .. Entertaining, standard fare.
