Benihana - Fort Lauderdale Ratings and Reviews
It has been years since I have been to a Benihanas of Tokyo restaurant. I remember it for an elegant interior and a fun evening with a chef cooking the food in front of you at your table. This is a very tired Benihana a bit worn out. It was noisy, not 'chef noisy' which we expected but 'loud patron' noisy. It was difficult to have a conversation around the table. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant.
This was the second time I had been to this location. The first time I didn't make a reservation. This time I did. I still had to wait about 20 minutes for the table. Each time they grouped all of the black people at one table, which made me feel like we aren't welcome at any other table. The waitress wasn't very nice. The chef was amazing though.
Went to the location in Miarmar and it was wonderful. Figured the Ft Lauder one should be just as nice if not nicer since it's by the water. Unfortunely I did not received the same experience. The waitress was rude and very rushed. She barked at us to make our order of drinks and appetizers when we barely even got a glimpse of the menu. Waited about 40 minutes before she came to take out order. She barely showed up to top are drinks. Then our chef finally made an appreance and he forgot to cook most of the vegetables we got at the Miramar location. Took so long to cook the onions everyone had already finished their food when he tried to just put nothing but onions on our plates. Took forever for our server to come back with the check. And yhey took so long we were getting ready to leave they finally bright the birthday dish out while we were all standing ready to leave. It was unorganized and embarrassing experience to have my grandmother on her birthday have such a lousy dinner.
Two in my party, seated with a lovely family with well behaved children. It was my birthday and also the 10 year old girl in other party. Drinks were served quickly. Soup, then salad served after about 15 minute wait. After that, we waited a good 40 minutes for the chef to appear. Seated about 7:40, ice cream about 9:45pm. The children were falling asleep, so bday girl missed hers... Have eaten here before and never had a problem. This time was very disappointing . Food was great though .
I had a reservation and still waited 30 minutes jammed next to other people with individuals yelling and fighting with each other. It was very loud and no place to sit (even though I shouldn't have had to with my reservation). The whole experience was over 2 and a half hours and I won't be returning to this location
I was part of a group of 4 for dinner at Benihana on a busy Saturday night in season in Ft. Lauderdale. The valet service was prompt and courteous and despite a large crowd waiting, we were within 10 minutes of arriving. These hibachi restaurants have community seating and we were seated with 2 other parties of 2. Unfortunately the booth was made for 6, so it was a very tight squeeze for 8, especially considering you'd never met the other 4 diners. It was double awkward as the other 4 had very limited social skills. Anyway, the food was very good and the portions were large, and the chef (from Haiti) did a fine job. Upon leaving at 9:30, it was even more crowded that when we arrived at 7:30, so it is a very popular spot. Next time we will ask for more comfortable seating.
I think they over booked themselves and they made anyone the chef .. This was the first time it wasn't entertaining at all .. Only one trick the volcano .. Boring and are reservation was nine and didn't seat until 9:30 and starting cooking after 10p.. Waitress was horrible.. My husband asked for a Samuel Adams and she said they don't serve it anymore? Huh ? I just had one at the bar ?!
Arrived 6:45pm for reservations at 7:00pm. Got there was a manager at front along with two ladies. They couldn't find reservation at first. I pulled out my phone and showed them email confirmation. We were a party of 8. There was only four of us had arrived at that time. They advised us to let them know when the other four arrived to be seated. About 10mins later our whole group was ready to be seated. I advise them that we are now ready. To our surprise they say we just sat your group. I advised no u did not we are still waiting to be seated. They say oh no there was a group that just came up to us and we asked are you the * group and they told them yes and they were seated in our table. I said that is rediculous. I just left from up here clearly u didn't sit the right group. Now we had to wait again to be seated. Got to the table only 1 chair was there. Waited on chairs to arrive. About 2hrs later we are getting ready the leave we all give cash tips to waitress and chef. Go to the front I give my receipt and card to pay and I tell the manager how good the service at the table was and I give an additional tip. All three at the front tell me to wait and they call the waitress to check us out. I leave and my family is calling me. The people said you didn't pay, that the waitress only took off the addtl. tip not the bill?? It is humiliating and embarrising to have the rest of my family in front of all these people get stopped when I had went to the counter and checked out provided them with card and receipt. I called and spoke with manager and let them know that this was unacceptable. He did apologize. We spent with tip and everything close to $ 700.00.
It had been quite a while since we had been here! Food was still good, service was excellent, drinks were great but our "chef" Jeff just didn't put on a show for us like the other "chef's" did for their groups (he was very nice)! That's one of the fun things of this place, I think! We'll try again!
The music is very loud and not appropriate for this restaurant. Just annoying. It would be nice to have Japanese music and set the mood. The salad is very good, as is the soup. The entrees are okay, not great. The chefs are very entertaining and our waitress was very good. Overall, not a great value.
I was pleasantly surprised that my note on the reservation was acknowledged - on three separate occasions - the hostess, server and Chef.
The server, Bradley, was wonderful and very attentive and quick.
Our 3 year old loved watching the boats go by and was amazed by the Chef.
It was Valentines day so we expected the place to be busy. My food wasn't that great, too spicy and rice too dry. They sat us in the coldest part of restaurant, I froze all night. We kept telling them but nothing. The chef that prepared our food was not that fun or active like we have had before. We didn't care for our experience this time around.
From the time we were seating to the time the chef arrived at our table, we were approaching the 2 hour mark. Talk about some hungry folks! Seriously understaffed at this location. The food was good, but the wait killed it for all involved considering from sitting time to end of meal was 3+ hours...
My fiance and 3 kids thought it would be nice taking me here for valentines day 2016.. Being that i have been here before and the service was great at time. So i was like this will be a perfect place to have entertainment and food cooked in front of us to make this romantic day fun. The cook was sloppy and food was flying every where and he dropped his spatula twice. The waitress served our drinks once and forgot about us. It took for me to get up out my seat to ask if anyone could fill our drinks. A waitress went to find our waitress to tell her we needed service she told them she was busy and another waitress waa kind enough to serve us. We didnt even finish our food because we lost our appetite from the overall experience. Ruin my valentines day was the day my fiance has proposed to me. Sas part is i still tipped her because i know she has bills.. But if i had any kind of hatered in my heart she wouldnt have got nothing. I would not recommend this place if the service of the waitress is declining like that.
The food portion is small for us Chicago-ins, we are used to
Big portions and my boyfriend left hungry after ordering the filet mignon and the lobster tail. The flavor of the food was great though. Everyone else at our table didn't even finish there plates though, maybe it's because we are from Chicago. But the chef was great and the food tasted amazing. Great food for price too!
I've been to this restaurant many times thru the years and this was one of the worst. The chef assigned to us was slow and seemed confused, plus he didn't do any tricks, not even the heart with the rice. He barely even spoke. Maybe he had a bad day? This was my companions 1st time and all I did was boast about the chef entertainment, so that was embarrassing. At least the chef's around us were firing off laughs and applause so we got to see 'something'. Also, the waiter was not attentive at all, we never even received a refill of water our entire stay, I was so thirsty! Very uncomfortable. The food was good, as usual, but seemed as though the portions were smaller than usual, we were even hungry after we were done, thus not worth the price. I was also disappointed that the birthday photo was not available. I have a collection and this year will be missed.
We had a great time at Benihana Fort Lauderdale! We went a little early, around 5:00PM on a Saturday and it ended up just being the two of us at the table. We had a fantastic view of the intercoastal and the food was delicious. The highlight was our chef, Carlos. He was very entertaining, nice to talk to (especially since it was just my boyfriend and me) and made us a perfect meal!
I've been going to Benihana for as long as I can remember. I really enjoy the food and the fun atmosphere. But the one in Fort Lauderdale is the worst one I've ever been to. Six of us dined there recently to celebrate a family birthday and we were sorely disappointed with the whole experience, starting with the reservations. When I got there to check in, they couldn't find my reservations and gave me attitude. That is because they never bothered to change it to 30 minutes later as I requested when I called earlier that day. Then it went downhill from there. There were many very basic details overlooked by both the server and the chef, including the vegetables that accompany the entrees, the rice that accompanied the children's entrees, the sauces, and the picture that they take and print to commemorate celebrations. When the framed picture finally came out, only 4 people were in it and the other two people's heads were cut off from the nose down. By the way, the server never came out once during dinner to refill our glasses or ask if we needed anything else. Worst experience ever. My husband told me I will have to go to Benihana with my friends as he hates it there. Everytime we go there, it's gotten worse, and I'm afraid he's to say he's justified in never wanting to dine there again.
Nice place, on the water but needs some remodeling, its old and has that musty smell. We went for Bday and it was ok, not great, the cook was good, service was ok, but not great. Maybe Mondays are not there best day. Mgt needs to paint, clean and re do the interior a bit. That will keep it on top like some of there other locations
