Benihana - Fort Lauderdale Ratings and Reviews
Where do I start? This was a terrible experience when celebrating a special birthday with family who came from an hour away to join us. This restaurant has gone downhill. Primary issue is that the restaurant was out of several menu items - when we got to the fourth item that we ordered that they were out of, it it became ridiculous. Manager was of no help - part of her explanation was that "it's Sunday" - is that justification? We had three different servers because they couldn't seem to figure out who we belonged to - service was generally slow. We sat for a while after ordering drinks before we got any attention. Server walked past us several times without clearing plates or taking the check. The topper was whipped cream served in small plastic sauce containers for the two birthdays we were celebrating. Spending almost three hundred dollars on this meal was not enough to warrant a scoop of ice cream?!
Service was the worst my order was wrong and the manger act like it was no big deal. As much as you pay the manage should have have showed some concern or act like she cares . Benihana in Coral Springs is great they treat you better as a customer. There restaurant has went to hell use to be the best. I order Yakisoba noodles with tofu in the place of meat cause I do not eat meat. She brought out a small thing of noodles with the tofu I said what this she stated you order the tofu with a side of noodles. No I order Yakisoba noodles with tofu instead of meat. I also oder hot green tea she brought out a glass of cold green tea. Someone with me order the Las Vegas sushi rolls and Vegetable sushi rolls she brought out the Vegetables roll stating she thought she wanted the Vegetables roll instead or Las Vegas roll. At this point I don't even want my meal so the manager took my plate oh she only took off my meal but did nothing to my bill I had a party of seven. What happen to good services at Benihana and the food quality. Very disappointed how you went from A to F for me. I not the only one who has notices the change in your services or food !!
What made our date was the waitress and chef were amazing! I took my GF after Circ de Soleil and it made it a perfect date. The waitress was amazingly excellent at her job and the chef made it fun. We were lucky and had nice guests at our table and we faced the water. I am a chef so the food was good but not what I consider anything special except the demo. A 5 star night to be sure. For dessert we went to Dairy Queen in the Manors, LOL. Pineapple milkshake stellar after that meal.
Location is cramped, dirty, and EXTREMELY NOISY. Server seemed to have too many tables, since he was constantly running, yet it was very hard to catch him for water, tea refills. Shrimp had mud veins all through them. Chef flicked a few of them out, but the shrimp tasted fishy.
What a disappointment. I knew it was expensive, but expected a clean, well run place. It has gone WAY downhill. The service was terrible. The restroom was dirty. They make a point of telling you that if you want "fried" rice, it's an extra charge. How tacky when you are paying over $40 for an entree. I wish I had looked at the terribly Yelp rating before going, but I know if used to be a nice place.
It all began starting with the valet. Our car was on the ascending part of the driveway because there was a car in the entrance. Rather, than asking the car to pull slightly forward. We entered an energetic waiting area with unfriendly hostesses and then I proceeded to the bthrm where it looked like a tornado hit it it!!!!!!! The place and ambiance looked unkempt and lackedngd hygiene from what we could see. I felt like I was at a chili’s, not Benihana’s. I usually go to the coral gables one. But, thought I’d try one closer to where I live, since, I live on the beach. My mistake, for sure.
We have been going to your restaurant for many years. We got Yum Yum sauce instead of the Mustard sauce that we had always gotten. We didn't care for the Yum Yum and had to ask for our waitress to bring us Mustard Sauce from the Sushi area of the restaurant. We had to wait while our food sat on our plates for a while.
I want to thank Benihana for opening on Christmas Day. I was hoping I wouldnt have to cook that day, and having to make reservations on a holiday was oh so special. I also want to thank out chef"Tony". His personality was delightful. He made our meal with love. Again, thank you for opening on a Holiday. I know having the staff away from their own family, was not easy. I ought to know, because my husband had to work on that day, and it can cause tension when a family member is not home for the holiday.
P.S. I forgot to mention, that the reservation desk was so accomodating. I can not thank them
enough for having to change my reservation a couple of times. They were so kind and compassionate, and understanding. Kudos to the staff at the Fort Lauderdale location
The minute we got there we were treated rudely. We got there 10 minutes before our reservation time and asked if we can get a seat by the window as per the notes on my original reservation; we were willing to wait and right away I was told no. We then went to sit and saw a window table available and asked if we can sit there and the waiter Jasmine rudely said we had to wait 45 minutes for it. We asked for a manager and while waiting the chef said that the table was available now. We sat down after the manager who claims her name was Tiffany told us to but I think she was lying because I looked her up after the horrible experience and the picture was not her. After we sat she came We two other strangers and asked my children to move from there seats so that they can fit. My children were so tight that the couple that had joined noticed how uncomfortable it was and left the table. The manager came back with security and told us we were going to be escorted out of the restaurant on Christmas Day. It was the most humiliating and degrading experience I have ever been in and sadly with my children. I asked for their names and I plan on pursuing a discrimination law suite.
I have been to this location before and I was disappointed, however this time the chef was amazing and the food was perfect. I am pescatarian and the chef made sure to cook my food first so that it would not have contact with any surfaces that touched meat. I really appreciated the consideration. The chef also cooked my rice without the egg.
We had a family meal w/ our three children. Tony was our chef and he was awesome. Found out the other couple at our table specifically asked for him. We just got lucky! The food is great, they get the drinks out quick and we always enjoy the time spent. Get a reservation early!!
I had dinner at Benihana for my birthday this past week and I went in knowing that it is a popular place, and that there would probably be waiting even with a reservation. I arrived 15 minutes early with my party of 8 and we really only waited ten minutes past our reservation time, so I was pleased with that. However, once seated- due to what the server blamed as a miscommunication of where we were seated- we waited probably half an hour before getting drinks, or even before someone came over to greet us! Once this mishap was settled though, I did have a very enjoyable evening here- the food is really tasty and fresh(obviously), and the chef we had, Saha, was interactive and made it fun. If not for the lack of service- even once we were acknowledged, we were left needing refills and never receiving side sauces we requested- I would give this place a 4 out of 5 just because it is a fun place, because I love hibachi, and they do make your special occasions feel special. As it stands, overall Benihana is nice for a night out but be prepared for waiting, and at high prices no less.
I can tell you that I hardly ever write a poor review for a restaurant but I am sad to say that I am about to. We had a 6:30 reservation for 5 people of which 2 were small children. Maybe it’s not a good idea to sit us with a young couple:(.. They were not happy and we were uncomfortable. At first, service was good and our chef was excellent. We waited 20 minutes for a second round of drinks and when we were ready for a check, the waitress was nowhere to be found. When we finally got the check, I had to bring it to the front desk because she never came to collect it. I’m afraid the staff cannot handle a Sunday night crowd:( .. We will not be returning 😞
What the heck is Benihana thinking? They change their mustard sauce it taste like turpentine. They change their steak it’s not the greatest quality anymore. They use so much garlic butter that even your drink tastes like garlic. Lastly, the onion soup was do salty it was unedible.
I started going to Benihana 47 years ago. I’ve been at more than half of them throughout the world. Fort Lauderdale has always been my very favorite Benihana. My meal was terrible. I couldn’t even finish my fried rice. I don’t know why they changed the recipe because it’s like changing their brand. I don’t know if I can ever go back again.
I truly hope Benihana reads this and understand that people came to their restaurant because of the same consistent taste and flavors that was unique. Now they decided to copy the copycats. It was the worst meal I’ve ever had at Benihana. They need to fix it.
In the last 200 reservations I’ve made over the last 18 months. This is only the second negative review I’ve ever given.
I was a very disappointed that I could not purchase $200 Worth of gift cards to get $60 in promotion cards. I was told to come back another day, when they got restocked. Also I must say the service was very slow such as drinks and table service, however the chef was great.
My husband and I went for his birthday celebration which was the bumb. He really enjoyed his birthday and we felt right at home because of Benihana ambiance.
In addition, the couple from Chicago that sat with us were good company and extremely friendly to us.
Also, we were told that our Chef, Fernando was new. But when he got to work with our meal it seemed as though he had worked their for many years. He was sensational, humble and extremely instrumental in ensuring that we were satisfied how our meals were being prepared.
In other words, he clocked in and never clocked out until the work was done. Also, he was professional.
Benihana has always been my favorite restaurant for birthday celebrations, but this east Fort Lauderdale location has really declined in terms of service and cleanliness. We had a 6:15 pm reservation on a Sunday, seated at 6:32, asked a waitress walking by at 6:45 if someone was going to take our drink order; she read the ticket and said she was our waitress and would return in 2 minutes; she officially returned at 7:10 to offer forks for the three different groups of eight people at our table. Meanwhile, at 6:51 my friend and another person from another group both went to complain at the front desk and manager; free appetizers were offered. A secondary waitress came to take drink and meal orders at 6:55 and drinks arrives just after 7:00. Then the soup and salad thereafter. Chef rushed to our table at 7:30 with only the rice to get started after a third person from the table went to complain again. Finished at 8:18 pm and officially saw our actual waitress for only the second time to receive the bill. The manager did stop by the table and gave 10% off our bill since we didn't request the free appetizer earlier. We also noticed very dirty floors throughout the restaurant, as well as bits of food remaining on adjacent table and chairs after being wiped off with clean place settings on top. Just not the experience that it once was; won't be returning for quite some time if at all.
The food was good , but i can tell that i have been to other benihanas and the chef were more nicer and more open to play and have fun. Our chef was ok but he difinitly wasnt the best. And also i was there for a birthday and i was expecting for them to sing happy birthday to my partner but i guess for that you have to purchase an icecream. Overall i was a good visit but not my favorite so far.
