Benihana - Encino Ratings and Reviews
Great food I love it! I’ve been here a couple of times. Today’s visit was celebrating two birthdays and usually once being seated you order your drink and the chef should be there shortly but for some reason was taking longer than usual but that’s okay. The chef was great the meal was delicious when it was time to pay the waitress handed the check I was going to pay. The waitress seemed to back away but then leaned forward to tell me the recommended tip percentages are at the bottom I said okay (seemed kinda pushy) and she only took a couple of steps to the side just staring to see and make sure I was leaving a tip or seeing how much I would put? I’m not sure why she was standing there staring but it made me and my family very uncomfortable like she would judge us if we weren’t going to leave a very generous tip. Also when we were placing our orders she seemed annoyed when everyone was ordering she kept making these faces but I just ignored it until what happened with leaving a tip thing (it was my family’s first time dining here so they had questions on the menu and what not)...I will come here to dine again but I just hope I don’t get that waitress again.
Had a great time for my sons 9th birthday. Service was great, food and show great as well.
Only negative is for the space itself. Carpets dirty and worn throughout, walls beat up and the bathroom urinal was falling off the wall and trash piled up and all over the floor. The place is slammed busy so the money is there, time to give this space some serious tlc.
This is the 3rd time we had a dinner reservation at this restaurant and they made us wait at least 30 minutes for our table... The whole point of making a reservation is so we do not have to wait for our table. Waiting 5-10 minutes is ok, but not 30 minutes or more.
The wait for the Chef took forever, just to find out how unsatisfactory the food was making it all show and no taste, but even then the "magic" of his show was not even worth watching. For the price paid it was just not worth it. We expected so much more even when I had told the manager. He claimed it was their best chef. I highly doubt. It was just insulting. I will never pay for this price with such quality.
The whole evening was a disaster. I'm not one to complain but this one pushed me to to the point of disbelieve. I though there were cameras on us from the show "What would you do?"
I'm still waiting on a call from the restaurant. Three parties at the table registered thier dissatisfaction to the manager after the meal. They need to know more about this chef and the quality of the food that was served. I was greatly saddened.
After arriving we were seated proptly. Our drink orders were taken. But it seemed like an eternaty before the Chef arrived. when he finnaly started he was very entertaining and the food was good. The restaurant itself is in need of some upgrading. The were some torn chairs and the carpet was split in several areas.
We came here for my daughters birthday. For the most part everything went well except I really don't understand the reason behind making a reservation. Every time I have made a reservation at other restaurants as soon as you walk in the table is ready. In this case we waited almost an hour for a reserved table, and it seemed parties who did not have reservations were taken in first. That really annoyed us. Then the food, our chef was great but he cut the chicken and meat so tiny that by the time we ate it it was so hard. I visited you location in Vegas and the meat melt in your mouth not in your restaurant. the meat was tough. we had almost a 300 bill for 4 people so it was a bit of disappointment.
The chef was very unenthusiastic, took longer than usual, made an issue over a minor misunderstanding, and the people we were sat with were just pure negative energy. Definitely ruined what should have been a highlight for my birthday. First time at this location and never coming back. Santa Monica ONLY! And they put way too much wasabi or horseradish in the light sauce they give you for chicken or shrimp. Ruined my plate of food!
Food was great but it was overpriced. Service was just god awful. The waitress didn’t bring soy sauce WITH the sushi, so my sushi was sitting out on the table for a good 10 minutes before she finally found some soy sauce. Overcharged my drink by $4 (who know what else/how often they overcharge and take advantage of customers who don’t pay attention to their bill) and didn’t seem apologetic about it. Final bill came and change was $8.35. Only brought $8 back, granted it’s only $0.35 but still, you can’t just decide on a whim how much change to give back to a customer.
Is over price for what they do, I do a better show when I cook at a Koren BBq my self, if it was more affordable, we would visit more in the future, not just for especial ocassions. The fried rice was amazing, and that is the only thing that was memorable. Is time for a change.
