Welcome to Benihana and a dining experience unlike any other! Our guests are seated at communal tables in groups, where your personal chef will perform the ancient art of Teppanyaki. Watch as we slice and dice, preparing a meal that will dazzle your eyes as well taste buds, whether you choose mouth-watering steak, tender chicken or succulent seafood. You can also enjoy sushi prepared by a talented sushi chef and indulge in a specialty cocktail. Located in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, Benihana Encino has been the site of numerous television and film productions including The Office, 40-Year-old Virgin and much more. It’s a local favorite of celebrities; one never knows whom they might encounter seated at the teppanyaki grill. The dramatic interior of the restaurant is an authentic Japanese farmhouse, dismantled and shipped from Japan, and reconstructed on-site.

Benihana - Encino Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointed that reservation was at 7:15pm and we did not get seated until 8:15pm. This is like death - waiting to eat with two children under 6! Once seated all was good but the wait was atrocious. I cannot believe management did not apologize or comp something for the inconvenience and wait.
The service was horrible, i made a reservation and didn't get a table until 40 mins after arrival. We were seated at the firat table from the entrance and it was small and cold. Overall hated my experience that night . for the money you spend i would of expected a more respectful and efficient service
We made a reservation for a birthday dinner. We got there at least 30minutes before our reservation and we ended up waiting 1 hour and a half to be seated. My husband had to repeatedly ask the host how much longer we had to wait and she gave said they were running behind. I know we were a party of 7 but people who came much later than us were getting seated and it was frustrating. We were celebrating a double birthday dinner for my 8yr old daughter and 11yr old niece and it started the evening on a sour note. We are from the bay area and visiting relatives in LA but we are never coming back to THIS Benihana when we are back in the town.
We love Benihana and this location. However, on this occasion, we made a dinner reservation for 4 for my daughter’s birthday dinner - 4:30pm on Open Table. They were so crowded we didn’t get seated until close to a half hour later. I don’t understand the purpose of reservations if we still have to wait. Thankfully the service and food were good but I was really disappointed in the reservation system.
Dinner was great! We arrived a little early for our reservation but we were seated right away. The chef was awesome and funny. Our server was a little slow and she almost forgot our ice cream. It was my birthday but I did not get chocolate sauce on my ice cream. I think they gave mine to someone else at our table with another party but it's ok. Everything else was GREAT!
I enjoy going to Benihana’s but this last experience was ok. The reservation system was down for days so I couldn’t make us one but we did walk in. I called ahead of time and told them I would show up around 3pm & they said I would be fine. We got there. We were the only ones waiting & they made us wait awhile until the next party walked in so we can be seated together . We waited 20 mins to get drink orders Then we waited another 30-45 mins until of chef came to the table . I had 3 cups of Mango Lemonade before the chef came lol. But i do enjoy the food , i just wish the service was better. The older man sitting across from us was joking how he could just make the food for us because the wait was sooo long lol.
Even though we had a reservation, we still had to wait about 30 minutes for the table to open up, and then another 30 minutes for a chef to come to our table. It was a lot of waiting and the only thing offered to us in the meantime was edamame. No one offered to refresh our beverages - I had to flag down someone and ask.
Waited at least 90 minutes to get seated on a night we had reservations. Watched group after group who came in AFTER us get seated before us.... both larger and smaller groups. Another 30 minutes before we had a chef. Longggg time to even get drinks. Was a very cold night, and yet air conditioning was blasting us from above. Probably the most miserable dining experience my family has had in years. There is no way we’ll be back. So sorry it had to be this way. Family was in from out of town and we were really looking forward to this. Terrible value for the horrible service. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.
Been a tradition to go every six months for family birthdays. The effort of the table chefs is ALWAYS there. A lot of fun, and great food. Feel free to change up the cooking on any steak, at the table. Great bar pours, and cocktails were nice and reasonably priced.
ADVICE: with a larger party, use their OpenTable reservations. They (Encino) are always busy. Call just to confirm, if youre unsure.
I always love coming to Benihana's because the food is delicious and you also get a fun show. I've been to several other locations, and recommended this restaurant for a business holiday dinner. This was my first time at the Encino location. The food was exceptional as usual and our chef put on a good show. The chef was also accommodating to any of our requests. Unfortunately, our server was very rude. Do to our server, it makes me hesitate to ever recommend this restaurant ever again. She had a bad attitude and answered any of our questions with annoyance. Also, our reservation was at 7pm and we weren't given our check until 9:30pm... no-one ordered dessert or additional drinks/dishes. 2 and 1/2 hours is a very long time to be spending on dinner. I understand that Benihana's is supposed to be a long dining experience since they are bringing out 5 courses and the food is being cooked for you, but sitting there for 2 1/2 hours was rather un-ideal (1 hour and 15 min was waiting on the chef to come to the table).
I would definitely recommend dining at other Benihana locations.
But personally, this one was not a good experience for me.
Salt... Salt.... then a little soy sauce. When I mentioned it to the chef... he responded, “ah, your paying attention.” It wasn’t his fault, I know that they strictly follow a recipe, but whoever wrote the recipe should think about purchasing better quality food that doesn’t need to be destroyed with sooooo much sodium!
Service was great, was running a few minutes late on my reservations but I called and the staff and they had no problem accommodating us. Our chef Fernando was super friendly and his food tasted delicious, it was my sons birthday and he made sure my son had a great time.
No point of making reservations. Had a reservation at 7:30 pm didn’t actually get seat it until 8:10 because according to the host I had told her my party of three weren’t all there at 7:30, which they were. Of course she had to lie to cover for her mistakes. On top of that our chef didn’t get to our table until an hour later. Pretty much started eating until 10pm. Good thing for the 7:30 reservation. Just pointless!!!!
Great food I love it! I’ve been here a couple of times. Today’s visit was celebrating two birthdays and usually once being seated you order your drink and the chef should be there shortly but for some reason was taking longer than usual but that’s okay. The chef was great the meal was delicious when it was time to pay the waitress handed the check I was going to pay. The waitress seemed to back away but then leaned forward to tell me the recommended tip percentages are at the bottom I said okay (seemed kinda pushy) and she only took a couple of steps to the side just staring to see and make sure I was leaving a tip or seeing how much I would put? I’m not sure why she was standing there staring but it made me and my family very uncomfortable like she would judge us if we weren’t going to leave a very generous tip. Also when we were placing our orders she seemed annoyed when everyone was ordering she kept making these faces but I just ignored it until what happened with leaving a tip thing (it was my family’s first time dining here so they had questions on the menu and what not)...I will come here to dine again but I just hope I don’t get that waitress again.
Had a great time for my sons 9th birthday. Service was great, food and show great as well.
Only negative is for the space itself. Carpets dirty and worn throughout, walls beat up and the bathroom urinal was falling off the wall and trash piled up and all over the floor. The place is slammed busy so the money is there, time to give this space some serious tlc.
This is the 3rd time we had a dinner reservation at this restaurant and they made us wait at least 30 minutes for our table... The whole point of making a reservation is so we do not have to wait for our table. Waiting 5-10 minutes is ok, but not 30 minutes or more.
