Benihana - Encino
Love this place. Food is always the best. Service and the chef are great. Could use a little minor updating but think they're too busy to bother. Great food and fun
We were here celebrating a birthday. Once we got our soup my guest and I asked a random waiter (black, muscular body type) for some chili so we can spice up our soup. NEVER CAME BACK! As if he has decided to completely ignore our request. Thank god the food and our actual waitress was amazing because he completely had an attitude and never got us our chili. It was a simple a request. I’m so glad we didn’t have him as our waiter. Thank you to everyone else who made the experience enjoyable. However when the older guests at our table requested low sodium soy sauce he was able to complete their request and bring them what they asked for. Which left me and my sister wondering why he decided to ignore us?!
Tip: do not get the black, muscular waiter who has an attitude and acts like he is too good to be there.
The restaurant is filthy...food all over the floor, grill not clean, menus greasy and not wiped down.
And the foos, was cooked with so much salt it was almost inedible.
This Encino branch is in bad need of a makeover.
My kids love coming because they think it is fun here but honestly it need a lot of revamping. It looks old and tired and not very clean either. I’ve been to other similar restaurants that are much much better.
We had a reservation for 6:15. We were seated at 7:00. The table was so crammed, we had to constantly get off our chairs to let pass their servers with their carts. On top of that, it took an hour before our chef came to the table, and we finished at 9 pm!
I had an appointment at 9:45 but I was going to be a few minutes late I change the appointment to 10pm and we get there they told us they dont have us down on the list. Had to wait 1 hour to get seated. After our group for 4 was ready and the restaurant made us wait for another party. Wasted another 30min. We started eating around 12am. We finished eating at 1:30am
Waited over an hour for our reservations, cook seemed like he was not into cooking. Food was decent. Expected top service and was disappointed. Traveled from Oregon and was expecting a different experience. Not happy with this location.
Was over crowded old inside needs paint and tlc
We went to celebrate my birthday. We always have a fabulous time. It’s so much fun sitting at The Chef’s table. The chef was very charming & entertaining.
Th food, service and ambiance was outstanding as well.
Jenny was great!!!! I forgot the chefs name but he had skull bones tatted on his hands pretty cool if you ask me. He did such a great job cooking our food and even gave my friend extra veggies since she is allergic to shrimp. Definitely our favorite place to come for occasions. Never disappoints
This is our favorite place. The food is amazing, cooked to perfection and by request. Weve come to benihana over 300 times. My hubby had a birthday last week, our 10th anniversary was this week and weve been here 4 times already.
One hour wait with reservations and cold and noisy waiting area with not enough seating so we left and went to the restaurant next door.
I always love everything about benihana, however, on March 10th (table for 8 and a high chair) for my daughter's birthday. We had reservations and we were seated 1/2 hour after our reservation time. Then we sat on the table (gave the food order to the waitress) and for 1 hour and 45 min waiting for the chef to show up. My daughter (the birthday girl) had to leave because her 2 year old was extremely hungry and she could not wait. With that being said, the whole birthday celebration was ruined for us. The chef that finally came to our table was a new chef (I have never seen him there before) and our food was over cooked. I took the food to my daughter that left the restaurant so she can eat it later. She called me later that night and said that her food was over cooked (chicken) and she could not eat it and threw it in the garbage. I told her that we did not enjoy our food either and we were very disappointed with everything that day.
One of the worst experiences we've had here and we go a lot. Had reservations at 215 and didn't get sat til 245 which is fine I understand it's busy. Then we get seated and don't see a server for 15 min. We finally get to order drinks but don't get drinks for another 15 min. We had to ask the hostess to bring out our soups and salads because the server never brought them. When we got the salads we had no forks and again had to go to the front to ask for them. We spent almost 3 hours there for what was supposed to be lunch turned into dinner. The hostess let us know we would be compensated and never were. We then spoke to a manager there who said he would call us the next day about because they were busy and never heard from them. The only thing that was good about our experience was the food.
We sat down at our table at 3:00pm and our beverage order was taken at 3:15 but we did receive our beverages until 4pm and they did start our meal until 4:15pm
Not what it use to be. The food and portions were horrible.
Benihana has become the Chuck E. Cheese of Japanese-ish food. When I was a kid it was an upscale restaurant that would pride itself on authenticity. I recall the advertisements that their chefs we're all Japanese and trained in Tokyo. There wasn't a Japanese person in that place last week. In fact, the majority of the crowd was black and the majority of them were wearing red and they were not all together celebrating their team's big win.
As a kid I remember a 3-piece jazz band and even saw Mayor Tom Bradley and other celebrities when we went there, but now? It's the local birthday joint. The food was good because the "chef" kept dumping garlic butter on the griddle!
I understand businesses must evolve to survive, and his place has evolved into a completely different animal.
We went there for my daughter's 11th birthday and had a good time so if you want tasty food with a noisy, predominantly black rowdy crowd, this is the place for you.
From beginning to end we had a poor experience. We had a 7pm reservation and arrived on time, it was absolute mayhem in the entry. The hostesses were not friendly and have no indication of how long we would have to wait even though we had a reservation. When we were finally seated, the small room we were in was loud and very shabby...dirty wallpaper, worn furniture, not so clean. The service was terrible, with the exception of our teppan chef who was wonderful and the only reason why I didn’t give all one stars. I’m not going to go on and on about our experience, suffice it to say that this was our last meal at Benihana. So disappointing as it should be such a great family dining experience in the old days.
I am sorry, but I had a reservation on 3/9/2019 at 3:30pm and the you v lady that was there was very rude!! And I spend $204 and she did not say me right away even though we had the reservation at 3:30 I was there for a while, and that is but the right way to treat customers!!! Food was good and the chef 👨🍳 was awesome 👏 thank you .
Had a reservation at 8pm. Finally got seated at 8.55pm. It was a birthday, special occasion. We were seated right at the back with the cold air conditioning blowing straight down on us. Food was prepared quickly with no real personality. Wasn’t tasty. This place has definitely lost it’s charm. Was extremely disappointed.
Our reservation was at 7:15 didn’t get seated till 8 and waited till 8:30ish for our chef... we had another reservation for a movie so we had to eat and run.. it was my husbands birthday and I had planned it with enough time but thanks to the disappointing long wait there was no time for his birthday song or pic. They need to plan the reservations better our hole table was frustrated and starved.
The place was dirty, the staff was rude and rushed. Our chef was older and not friendly.
Love this place!!! One of my Favorites of all times.
The front desk lady was rude. Didn’t like her attitude.
We waited entirely too long to be seated with reservations.
Visited LA and wanted that kind of Vice feel so I went here. Just like at home but in the city of Angels.
It takes a while to get started because we didnt get seated until 20 min after our reservations but after that it was great.
It was overcrowded. Service was horrible and was never like this especially when comparing it to the Newport Beach location which we go to often. The bathroom was disgustingly dirty. The server was overwhelmed. We asked for a couple straws, i asked for one extra straw in case if the kids drop it I'll have one.. then she asks for the extra straw back?!? Seriously?? Then the chef was like in a hurry or what and the food just wasn't as great tasting. Not sure if I'll go back
2 Birthday celebrations
Awful experience. Food was cooked at incorrect intervals. The Chef cooked shrimp first making my partner’s meal be finished 20 mins before the veggies and rice.
It makes no sense why he didn’t use soy sauce on a lot of the items and it left the entire table quiet and awkward!
This location is not the best of the Benihana family. The restaurant was not clean like I am used to seeing.
Great service, amazing food. Just a little too noisy, but everything else was amazing.
Very good meal! hadn't been in a long time and I had a great time. The chef was amazing, friendly and very entertaining.
The food was very good, the chef was very entertaining but unfortunately the entire table next to us made the experience a lot less enjoyable towards the end of the meal. That entire party tried to scam the restaurant by faking blood all over the food and screaming and threatening the management with a lawsuit. They then left the restaurant without paying their bill.
My experience was awesome didn’t have to wait long to be seated and dinner was awesome as always
This is a place to go for celebrations and to be with a lot of other people. The chef was okay...we've had better. But for the money, you do get a complete meal, and it's fun.
I had a reservation and was sat down the minute I walked in. Great food and great service!
Celebrating 13 yea old sons birthday. Beni’s never disappoints. Excellent food, excellent service.
The chef was hardly interactive with the table. My son was looking forward to the show and even asked why he didn’t do the tricks with the eggs. Disappointed that my 4 year old son was able to pick up on it.
