Everything was great, as usual. Food is always fantastic! The only negative things tonight were that the wait time for the chef to start cooking was over 30 minutes after we sat down. We had to find the waitress to ask for drink refills. We were there for my daughters 21st birthday, but, were told that their photo printer wasn't working.
This place used to be a fun outing with the family but from the moment we arrived it was apparent that the quality of management has deteriorated badly. I would never want to jeopardize people’s jobs, but I work hard for my income and to essentially waste any of it at Benihana again won’t be happening. Overpriced is one thing if the “experience” is worth it, but they don’t care about their guests.
We eat at this Benihana often because it is my son's favorite restaurant. We go maybe once every 2 months. This was a terrible experience however. I had reservations for 8:00 and the restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday night. We were seated at about 8:05 and another couple was seated with us. We waited and waited and at 8:45 I got up to complain at the front desk that no one had come to the table yet. Another table that was seated at the same time as us was already being served their fried rice and we still didn't even have drinks. Then the hostess came back to tell me we had only been waiting 30 minutes. I said NO, we had reservations at 8:00 and YOU sat us at 8:05. Plus, even at 30 minutes, that is totally unacceptable to leave customers just sitting there! Finally, after sitting there for 45 minutes, we got our soup and a chef to cook our meal. I think, because they were slow, they sent a bunch of their staff home. I'm really going to think twice the next time my son wants to go and probably try some of the other hibachi grills in the area instead.
Very good food. Service was spotty. By example waited over 1/2 hour for tea refill after asking two different servers. Restaurant surcharges are excessive... worst was the chef telling someone at our table that another dab of butter in his fried rice was an extra charge. Given the other competition around, I might recommend another restaurant.
Got to the restaurant. Was told they were short handed. Only 3 chefs. Big table already waiting to be seated. They were told 5-15 minutes. I asked if we would suffer the same experience and was told the same speech, short staffed etc. we left and went to Cheesecake Factory. This was to celebrate 2 birthdays. I wasn’t going to go through another bad service experience as we have in the past at this same location. I will never return now.
Reservation for 4 people @ 6:30pm but not seated until 7:20pm. Lobby very crowded and inner door to restaurant difficult to open due to outer door/foyer pressure vacuum. No overflow seating while waiting nor explanation from hostess why there would be a long wait with a reservation. Fresh selection of food items cooked in front of you is always enjoyable. Salad portion very small and fried rice portion could have been bigger for the price.
Very cold draft from hood above dining area - left open by chef after cleaned up. Had to put on jacket around shoulders to stay warm which killed the happy dinner mood and leave sooner than had planned.
B-day ice cream with a candle and B-day song from staff a nice touch but already included with dinner combination so already paying for it. Recommend to offer options for B-day comp.
Overall, staff polite and good choice for celebration meals only due to the expense.
We’ve been to several Benihana restaurants over the years, including this one. Unfortunately, this was the poorest experienced we’ve had - and it happened to be on my son’s 9th birthday. The chef was clearly a rookie, made mistakes with orders for both parties at the table, dropped knives, and didn’t do much of a “show” at all except for the onion “choo-choo” train. In addition, the chicken was undercooked for our party as well as the other party at the table.
Our main waitress was an older woman who was clearly unhappy to have 3 boys aged 9 at the table. She had little patience to get their orders and never offered to get drink refill orders when we finished our drinks. Very poor experience for the price.
Everything was great except for the waiter not refilling drinks. I think he was covering too many “tables” and he was very slow. I used to work in foodservice and when you aren’t refilling wine glasses, it’s the fastest way to miss out on money through higher bills and better tips.
Terrible service - the chef even left the table at one point to go to the kitchen to get vegetables as no one would bring him anything. We sat there for at least 5 minutes watching our food just sit idle on the grill. They pack you like cattle to the table; you barely have space for anything. Zero ambiance. We had to repeatedly ask for our drinks to be refilled by random people walking by.
Two people in our party of four were very ill from the food. NEVER EVER EATING THERE AGAIN.! Disgusting to say the least. There are SO many better restaurants out there; don’t waste your time on this place!!
Been here several time and this is the first ting I write a bad review. There was one waiter for 6 tables so services was terrible; cold soup, no rice, delayed appetizer sushi!
I had the emperor feast and meat had a weird taste so I was afraid to finish my meal. Very disappointing visit,
It’s exactly what you’d expect for the type of food they serve. Service is good. Carpets and windows are filthy though. Kind of gross if you happened to look around. I think the grease from the grills must get on everything. The chefs are awesome and the food is tasty!
We had a wonderful time having dinner for my bday. The food was delicious, facility is clean, place is roomy. services are wonderful. The only suggestions i would give you are: train the chefs better so they could prrform better. Speficicially, the lady chef cooked our meals was serious, too quiet, no interactions with us, no cooking show as we had ecpected. So, we had no fun except the food wss good. On the whole, we had a good time and will return in the future.
Even though we had a reservation we had to wait to get seated and wait again for the chef to come. In all, an hour wait to begin dinner after we arrived. The staff was very friendly and gave us a sushi roll while we waited, but it was still a huge inconvenience. The chef was amazing, very nice and skilled, and the food was quite yummy.
This was a homecoming group of 6. Our reservation was for 7:30, the group was not seated until 8, and the chef did not begin meal preparation until 9. We were very disappointed in the service by staff as well as manager on duty. Food was fine but service was terrible.
The meal was horrible . Then cook/chef was the worst ever doing the show part of the meal . He undercooked the salmon, he gave people at our table food they did not order, then gave smaller portions to those who did order the correct meals. It was a disaster. The worst time ever at a Japanese Steak House. I wanted to talk to the Manager before I left but he darted away and I did not want to spend another second in this place tonight. He also dropped a bunch of food on my fathers leg . He obviously was not an Japanese chef . I think he was a bus boy they said tonight you are a chef because the place was busy wit homecoming kids. We really should get a refund for this meal. This place was not cheap and this was a disaster tonight. I sure hope I hear from someone and they offer us a free meal sometime in the future or I will never return to this place.
Celebrated a birthday with family group and was surprised how fast 2 hours passed. A fun time was experienced due to chef entertainment, fine dining and pleasant service. Only drawback was waiting 15 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation. Nevertheless, a visit worth repeating.
We went at 3pm and the restaurant was empty. We retrieved our own soy sauce because nobody came over after our food was cooked to follow up.. The food was overcooked. I think the chef was new. The music speaker too loud to hear our conversations. So my birthday celebration and food was just average.
Dined on a Saturday at 6 pm. Our party of five was seated promptly. Our party was comprised of mom and dad in our early fifties and 3 adult children in their early twenties. We were joined at our table by 3 adults and 1 adorable baby. The first thing we noticed when we sat down was that there was food from the prior patron's meal on the cooking surface. This prompted us to start looking closer at the plates and surfaces. The silverware was clean but the plates had an oily film on them. The table top was clean. First course was an onion soup, very good. Second course was a salad that had a little too much onion for my party. The main course was prepared and served by our chef. The chef was entertaining, but soft spoken and with the loud atmosphere, we couldn't hear him repeat back our order, but did receive exactly what we ordered. Between the five of us we tried Scallops, Teriyaki Chicken, and Shrimp. The food tasted good, but not above average. The quantity of each dish was perfect. The vegetables, consisted of zucchini and onions, served separately, which we all found odd. The fried rice was very good. Those who had white rice said there was a flavor to the rice that they could not quite identify and resulted in very little missing from what was served. All of the servers were great, professional and timely.
A one word summary of the evening would be unremarkable.
Benihana is one of our favorite places. But this location was a huge disappointment. The cook was unenthusiastic and seemed like he didn't want to be there. And very unaccommadating to special request (ie. More butter, extra sauce). They also charge for extra sauce which I found out later. We were there for birthday celebrations and this was not the show you usually get at Benihana's. I will not return to this location.
We have been to Benihana before and thought we knew what to expect. The waiter took our drink orders and it took quite a while to get our drinks. He brought our waters, just after the chef arrived at our table. In most hibachi restaurants it is customary to be served the soup and salad courses first, but the chef was already well underway before we received ours. The table settings seemed to be very cramped, with very little room to maneuver our soup and salad bowls, glasses, sauce dishes, etc. The overall experience was quite disappointing and it will be quite a while, if ever, before we return to Benihana at Dulles.
We were seated right on time as per our reservation, the service was excellent, and the chef was very entertaining with knife tricks, This was my second visit in two months with different friends I wanted to share the experience with and it did not disskpiont either time! If you are a seafood lover you are in heaven and if you are a meat lover you will be very please with the beef. None of our party wanted cocktails at either occasion so I don't know about the bar. If you want a special occasion for friends or a celebration this is your place. The noise level was low enough to permit conversation and the wait staff were very accommodation of special requests.
