Benihana - Dulles
The service was terrible. Our server never came back to check on us, offer refills, etc.
This was one of the least interactive Japanese steakhouse experiences I’ve had. I thought the food was so so and same for the service.
Chef was not as entertaining as we usually have
Upon entrance, the restaurant smelled so bad like unclean, sour wash rags.
We had made a special request to be seated at a table without children ... the restaurant was empty and we were seated at a table with a baby. The host acknowledged our special request but told us the only way we'd get a chef to cook for us, we'd have to sit at the table with the baby, even though no other tables were occupied.
The table was smelly and sticky. While our server was very nice, her tray was filthy. I was second guessing eating the food because the (empty) restaurant appeared very unsanitary, but we had a gift certificate so we took a chance. The food turned out to be so-so, not horrible, not great. We got a very small serving of zucchini for the "vegetables" and nothing else - maybe 4 pieces.
The bathrooms were filthy.
Service was not great tonight. I ordered yakisoba noodles with chicken with a side of shrimp, for the first time. It was terrible. The sauce has five spice in it. Three of us tried a small bite each, and everyone said it tasted awful. Normally, everyone gets ice cream. Tonight, only 2 out of 5 of us were given ice cream. Not sure why. The staff seemed to be in bad moods tonight. We are regular customers and were very disappointed.
I sat for 45 minutes at a table in the dining room with hungry kids. No one told us about the wait time or updated us on the length of time until the chief would arrive. It is pretty miserable for kids to sit and watch others eating when they can't have food themselves. I asked if there was anything they could order or bring and was told no. Not coming back!
Very disappointed that we were charged for 2 steamed rice even though we ordered 4 entrees, also charged for garlic butter for the steamed rice. Half a scoop for 50 cent for the request.
1st time I have been charged for garlic butter and steamed rice. Frequent customer
An 8 PM reservation didn't have us seated until almost 8:45. The chef was great, but it took another 10 minutes after being seated to get even our drink orders taken.
It was NYE so it was packed and crazy busy. Usually it's smoother experience but still good none the less.
The food and the service was great. My spouse and I were at a table with two other families. They acted like we didn’t exist. I found it both disheartening and uncomfortable. Next time, I will take a larger group of my own friends and family so that we can have some lively conversation at the table rather than just me and my spouse listening to everybody else talk about their own family stuff and never addressing us. I don’t recommend Benihana at the holidays, as a romantic dinner for two.
Staff were very friendly. Chef made it look easy cooking. Food were tasty.
Chef was friendly and food was very good. Service was a bit slow in the beginning (few chefs working and wait staff) but our server was handling multiple tables so not likely her rather that they were short staffed that night. We go here occasionally and will go back either way.
Food was good but our reservation was at 1:00 pm and the food didnt start cooking at our table until 2:00 pm. I had work obligations and had to leave my party early.
Worse Christmas dinner ever. Over cooked seafood and steak, a third string chef that didn't know any of the standard Japanese steakhouse tricks, and a spider. Yes a spider. Avoid...at least on Christmas day.
Reservation was 7:30 PM but was seated at 8:30 PM. Chef was not available until I as well as the others at our table asked the manager how long will the food served. So finally after 2 hours waiting food was cooked and served. We got a $10 off our bill ?!!? Not happy at all. We are not coming to this place
Did not honor reservation. Got there in time for 7:15 reservation and they were still seating people from 6:30. We had to leave
This was an unmitigated disaster. They had over booked Christmas Eve by 1.75x. Our reservation (booked two weeks in advance) for 7:15 was finally sat at 8:17. Orders were taken within a few moments, and then we sat and sat for 20 minutes or so. Finally our soup and salad beat our drink orders out. Following that delay there was another 25 minute delay before our chef came table side to begin meal preparation. They did try to make it better by offering complementary apps to accompany the meal. Our meal was not completed until 10:15. A three hour ordeal with small children. We have been to this location numerous times and totally understand the meal is usually long 1-1.5 hours start to finish, but 3 ended up basically destroying the night.
We had a 7pm reservation on Xmas eve. We were finally seated at 8pm. Food was just so so. We were not entertained by the chef preparing the food as we have been at other Japanese steakhouses. Disappointing. Probably will not try again.
This restaurant should avoid booking more parties than they have staff to handle. Our seating was late. The waitress behaved as though waiting on us was an imposition. Half of our sushi order and a third of our drinks were not delivered because the staff was so overloaded they forgot. The table chef was obviously worn out and just going through the motions. Awful experience.
Even with a reservation it was nearly an hour before we were seated. Then after being seated, it was another wait until we received service. We were there from 6:30 until after 9:00. It seems to me that they should not take so many reservations on a busy holiday evening.
Went for Christmas Eve dinner and when they called to confirm our reservation, asked us to show up early but we might have to wait???
They sat us after waiting 15 minutes and then after taking a drink order told us we would have to wait for a chef. I felt like the reservations were poorly managed.
When you think of benihana. You go for a show I can get a surf And turf for a % of the price I paid and of been 100% satisfied somewhere else because I wasn't expecting a show. But we went at Christmas so we got what seemed like limited selection to begin with. But let's start at the beginning, first our reservation wasn't ready when we got there and we waited 10 mins , and Everytime the waitress would ask about fried rice she had to reiterate that it was more expensive... Again I don't care about price at Benihanna!!!! then our food was entered wrong from the waitress to the chef (I SHOULD OF WALKED OUT THEN) But we fixed it and kept moving then we tipped our chef right when she came out to start off right and yes we got to see our food cooked but no tricks no egg toss no heart rice no flying food the onion volcano was not a volcano it was fire out of control that seemed like it burnt the chef and she left the table immediately. the worst part is when I made my reservation I specifically said that it was my children's first time going out to dinner there I could care less about a discount the manager gave off the bill it's not about the money we had the money to go out to dinner we want what we came to pay for at least if the chef does not know the tricks you should be told at a time and see if you are okay with that because we're the amount of money you're paying especially with a holiday menu the selection was very slim it was not what I expected at all.
the wait was horrible. We had a reservation for 8 and waited over an hour for a chef to come to the table. It was busy but that is no excuse. We had an early reservation because we had kids with us.
Great time came in before a fight and was out in time.
Our reservation was at 6:45. We showed up and knew there would be a problem when the family before us walked out complaining that the point of the reservation is to not wait for an hour. We were told 20-30 minutes so at 7:20, I asked again and we were seated. Never called but just forgotten. We sat at the grill table with another 2 families since we were only 4. We had to wait another hour and finally did not get food started until around 8:30. It was my son's birthday and was really disappointed. Would have left if any other day but he really likes this food with a show.
PS. Reason for the delay was the group before us that took up three tables. 30+ people for a corp dinner. Rude if they did not contact the restaurant before hand and worse if the restaurant knew and did not bring in an extra cook.
NOT AGAIN FOR ME is my vote for this place.
Not like before
Service is horrible
They forgot we had a Bday
We just wanted to leave
The place was a mess. The front door when opening and closing is very dangerous. You have to pull and push very hard due to the air ventilation. The dining room and bathrooms were disgusting, there is no one picking up and cleaning. Lock to the bathroom door needs to be fixed in one of the stalls. When chef was done a fan cut on with very cold air and we had to put our jackets on to finish dinner. Overall the environment gets an “F”
Business lunch. Took about 25-30 min from time we placed our order until food prep started. Restaurant was not busy at all and staff was standing around doing nothing while we waited. Appeared that staff was waiting for another party to sit down so they could cook for all of us at once. We had only an hour for lunch so the delay in getting started was problematic for us. Staff needs to be more aware during lunchtime hours that delays can spoil the experience.
Love the birthday club coupon.
The food is good and the service too
Been there a few times and food quality has steadily declined. The kids liked it (which was what mattered since occasion was child birthday) but all 3 adult entrees (filet, scallops and chicken) were over cooked, bland and unsavory. My scallops were inedible and had a burger on my way home.
We had an ok experience this time. The service wasn't so great. Asked for a few things, which were already on the chef's table, but didn't get it right away. No one cleared dishes, causing us to have to like them up and pass them down to the empty chair. We are regulars here, and this is definitely not the best service we've had here.
We come here several times each year. We enjoy the food, but the service is always poor at best. Every time we come the wait to get our drinks is at least 45 minutes with a reservation planned out well in advance. There’s never an explanation, update, or an apology for the long periods of time for everything. Once we start to give our order, they then rush us like they are doing us a favor. No servitude or kindness ever. What brings us back are the chefs and the food. If it wasn’t for me wife, I would never come back. When I go out and spend $150 I expect more than poor service.
Worst experience ever!!! Will never return!!!
Unfortunately with these places your experience is at the mercy of the chef you’re assigned. We were assigned a meek, reserved, near silent chef who was very inexperienced and stumbled through making our dinner. Luckily, it was our guests first time at hibachi style dining so they were unable to comprehend how disappointing in comparison the performance was.
Opentable was simple & the staff was ready for us when we got there!
Made a reservation for 8:15 pm. Was not seated until almost 8:45. There were open tables but they did not have enough staff to work all of the tables. There was one other large group waiting also. By 9:15 we had placed our order and received salads and drinks but had not seen a chef. When we had asked at first we were told someone was coming soon. We then saw half the restaurant was complaining about similar delays and decided to cut our losses and leave. At this point they admitted they were short on chefs.
With a reservation, it took us 30 minutes to get seated. Another hour for food. No manager came to apologize or make it right to us.
I never leave reviews but after this experience....I had to. I've always wanted to try benihanas and so for my birthday I figured why not?! I should have went to Sakura gardens instead!! The place was packed, loud and just not what I expected. But let's take that out of the equation as that is not the restaurant's fault.
Food-horrible! Unseasoned, (salt and pepper the bare minimim-was missing) and the cook put absolutely no effort into our dishes. We ordered teriyaki chicken and had to pay for sides (rice and noodles) separately because apparently that was all we would have gotten.....rediculous!
Chef- again no effort into meal, limited interaction with us and just was not pleasant.
Waitress-got our order wrong, took forever to bring things out and swore a few time to the cook (jokingly)....in front of us....this is absolutely not great customer service behavior
I looked at the other table next to us and their chef took time with their meals, their food looked absolutely amazing and their waitor checked in them to make sure things were great....must have been nice. Their chef started before ours and finished 15 minutes after ours....telling.
Way to ruin my birthday dinner.
Party of 8 and spent over $500 on horrible service do better!
Terrible experience. We were sat 45mins late for our dinner and weren't served our food until another 2 hours later. Would NEVER go back.
Tonight was okay, not great. The hosts had little to no understanding when my in-laws were running late, threatening to give away our table after we had driven over two hours to get there and my mom flew across the country. Our server was rude, inattentive, and rarely checked on us. The rice tasted undercooked (steamed), which made the fried rice, while cooked nicely on the stove top, have hard grains. The steak was delicious, but the scallops could have been cooked longer. The server didn’t bother to take my ice cream order for my birthday; she defaulted to rainbow sherbet and only brought my free ice cream in the flavor I wanted when we reminded her that ice cream came with the meal (after she brought our check). My mom-in-law had to ask for a box for her food four times and was physically shooed away by her. If I didn’t love this place normally, I wouldn’t come back. Such a disappointing night.
