Benihana - Dulles
This was our first visit to the Dulles Town Center location (since in the past we frequented the Bethesda location) and DTC Benihana did not disappoint! We had an enjoyable meal for my son’s birthday and the service was spot on! We look forward to going back to this location again!
Average and kinda pricy for lunch
Food was not good and overpriced.
dirty tables, extremely slow service, a waiter who seemed like he just rolled out of bed, orders wrong, and none of the typical fun of a japanese steakhouse experience. overall - just terrible
We went to celebrate our son's birthday. That was on our reservation and we also told our server about it. And our 4 year old son made sure he told everyone about it. That was the last we heard anyone mention his special day. Our chef was ok, but for the prices we paid, we expected much better. The preparation is part of the meal, part of the spectacle. Very blah. Food was a little overcooked all the way around. Our server was MIA for most of the meal. Getting refills wasn't easy. Had to ask another server. They charged for fried rice. Another (better) local hibachi place doesn't charge for that so that caught us offguard. And to cap it off, on a birthday dinner, they forgot to give our kids desserts (included on kid's meals). Disappointing. I think the old Benihana name and reputation would stick out. Turns out that was well in the oast. Definitely not recommended.
Our chef Jonathan was wonderful, talented and a great cook. Jack our server was helpful as well.
The hibachi chef was not very exciting to watch as I would usually expect at hibachi restaurants. It was also extremely over priced for service I could've gotten elsewhere with the same quality of food and better service.
The cook made good food, but the performance was a little weird.
Our family enjoys celebrating birthdays at Benihana. Unfortunately, the experience hasn't been a consistent one. Either the Chef doesn't provide a detailed performance, or a family photo isn't taken when on other birthdays it has, or the guest of honor doesn't receive their birthday treat and song. The food is excellent, the atmosphere fun, and we will continue to celebrate. There was just some lack of consistency in our experiences lately.
Wonderful experience for my dinner
Servers could definitely be nicer!
Food was excellent but service was rushed and not very good. Server brought salad once chef had already started cooking show. Then brought dessert while we were still eating our main course. Cleared drinks that we had not finished yet and then came back twice asking if we were done with the check yet. Very unprofessional and made us feel like he couldn’t wait for us to leave.
Our cook was very nervous and very unsure of the orders. I believe this somehow slowed down the meal being prepared in a timely manner. My meal was filet and shrimp. The shrimp were prepared last which is fine however the cook was confused and apparently thought she had cooked too much shrimp. So she put the ‘extra’ cooked shrimp in a bowl and wasn’t going to serve them to me. I had to ask for the shrimp because they were part of my order. She still seemed reluctant to give them to me and had to be coaxed by the entire table to give me the shrimp I ordered. It was, to say the least, very weird. The food was prepared fairly well, just much slower than we are accustomed to at Benihana’s.
Wait went 60 past reservation time. Food was delicious. Service felt as if we were bothering the waitress and she was doing us a favor.
Always a good spot for a special meal. We came at an off time to avoid the rush. But service was bad (lots of mistakes in the otder) and the food just didnt taste as good as usual.
Service was awful. Waited 30 minutes for drink orders to be taken. Refills never came .. to forever to get forks. For the cost not worth it!
I like the Benihana, but seems that service is usually slow. This time around, our service was extremely slow. She may have been new. She did not know the menu very well. Friend ordered one brand of beer and received another brand and style. He wasn't told that the beer he wanted was out of stock. My beer was out of stock too, but I was told that. I also ordered an iced tea and had to ask 3 times for it. My wife did not order dessert, but she was given a dessert anyway. The server forgot to turn the heat up on the grill. That delayed the meal. I hope the service improves.
Food was really good and our showman, Jonathan, performed wonderfully. He tested the grill before cooking and realized that it was not hot enough. He apologized and said that we will be delayed 5 to 10 minutes. The manager came to apologize too.
We love Benihana! Our last two trips we have had Sandra...who is fabulous. Thank you for always providing good food, an enjoyable atmosphere and friendly staff.
Celebrating early Father’s Day. Sushi was really fresh, we got three different kinds of. Our daughter got a lunch boat and we got hibiscus tea, very refreshing. Green tea ice cream for dessert. Not too crowded, just right.
No, hope to try another one in future - maybe. The service was really bad.
The table service was awful. The waitress hardly came to the table. It took forever for our drinks and the check.
Service was very slow and we had to keep asking for certain items we ordered.
Summary - Waiter was missing most of the evening, food was not fresh, fish was smelly, bathroom was filthy.
Server was terrible. The chef was just ok. Not very enthusiastic. Not worth the expense.
We’ve been to this Benihana’s a few times, this go around we celebrated our son’s birthday. Great food and entertaining watching the chef dice and cook the food in front of us. I thought the amount of food served was slightly less than in the past. My son had a blast and we’ll definitely go again!
We were celebrating a birthday with friends. The server was great. Attentive. Picked up dirty dishes quickly and refilled drinks. The table chef was funny and did fun tricks.
They were completely under staffed. And nothing felt authentic. Even though they were slow everything was rushed! It took 45 minutes once seated to get our salads. I mentioned it was my sons birthday, but they did nothing special. We will not be dining there again.
Overall fun experience, especially for kids.
The food is great and our chef Jonathon was amazing. However, the table service wasn’t great and the meals are way too expensive for what you get.
This was not the experience I was looking for. The food was good, however, the portions were not good at all for the price we paid. Our waiter was horrible. He got some of our order wrong and was simply not we expected for this restaurant. Will probably not be going back to this location. We have visited other Benihana restaurants and had far better experiences.
Everything was great! It was crazy because of mother’s day but the staff did a great job and everyone was extremely friendly and helpful!
Outstanding food. Fun atmosphere. Good service. We love going to Benihana!
Everything was excellent. From the food, the staff.. EVERYTHING. We'll definitely be back again when we're in town
Celebrated our Daughters Birthday. Waiter forgot to help celebrate by singing or whatever they do there. Service was so-so for how expensive the meals cost.
I have been to this Benihana many times. The food is always delicious. We have always had great service EXCEPT THIS TIME! This is no way is about the chef that cooked our food; just about the server that takes your order. Upon sitting down at our table with another family, immediately when he started talking something was off. He took our drink order and appetizer order. About 8 mins later he came back again to take our drink order again; he took the order and about 5 mins later he came back again to "verify our drink order" and to get our appetizer order again. I have never complained to management before this evening. He seemed really disoriented/impaired. I spoke with the manager about not only our concerns but the other family sitting with us. About 5 mins after that, he brought us our drinks however, he had all of the orders wrong and put the kids drinks in normal cups. At this point the floor manager was now watching him; he didn't give us straws, he spilled a drink on the grill, and his apron fell of and he picked it up off the floor and put it back on. The floor manager came over and gave all the kids children cups. Roughly 5 mins after that the appetizers came out again, which was the incorrect order. After the floor manager saw this, she came to double check our entree orders because she was not confident about the situation. Thank goodness she double checked because what he wrote down was wrong. He then came back and I had asked for straws, he put about 10 in front of me and asked if that was enough, as if I was bothering him. Once the chef came out to cook she verified our orders, The food that was put on the prep try was not correct, so I told her the orders once more. I was standing to take my daughter to the bathroom, and then the server came up to me and asked me was the problem was with the orders in a very abrasive manner. I told him to talk to the chef. After that the floor manager basically took over.
We arrived on time for our reservation but was told we would have to wait as the kitchen was backed up. When we finally got seated it was at least 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us and a manager said someone would be over to get our drink order. She said they underestimated the amount of reservations and did not have enough staff working.
The cook has to remake one of the meals as the shrimp was to be cooked without butter and he forgot so he head to remake the meal and it was redone at the end when everyone else was eating. The bowls of white rice came out at least 10 minutes before food was cooking on the hibachi.
The bill double charged for sushi but we caught that and had to wait for a new check.
From our reservation time until we were done it was 2 hours, way too long and not one apology or an attempt to fix the problem. Our foreign exchange student wanted to experience the hibachi style restaurant for her birthday and unfortunately is was not the best experience.
How dissapointing. We had 7:00 reservations and were not seated until 7:15, not normally a big deal but we had a handicapped person in our party. We waited 10 minutes before anyone came to get our drink orders and another 15 before the drinks came. Our chef didn’t arrive to our table until 8:00 and by that time, no one had come to check in with us to offer more drinks. You’d think for $11/drink someone would be there to offer them more often, especially after waiting an hour for the chef to even start cooking.
We had a young chef who was excellent, fast and paid attention to both cooking the food properly and people around the table. Some chefs are more interesting and entertaining than others and this one was quite good. One gripe: we ordered the filet and they cut it on the grill, then give it to you on the plate to eat with chopsticks or a fork as you see fit. Unfortunately, my wife, daughter and I each got the same thing and each peice of meat had some obvious chunks of fat or grissle on it. As a result, we each left a couple peices of meat on the plate. Benihana's either needs to provide a knife for the patrons or the chef needs to pay attention to these and cut out and disgard the fat and grissle to avoid wasting part of the food unnecessarily.
We go to Benihana's 6-8 times a year and enjoy the food, but would like to see them address this issue.
