Benihana - Cupertino Ratings and Reviews
Our chef did well performance wise but he didn’t season the food very well. I understand you don’t want to oversalt but the flavor suffered. Also, I asked for my steak to be medium and he cooked it well. I was trying to tell him that but he didn’t understand what I was trying to say. It was a decent experience but it was not what I’ve become accustomed to at this location.
The server got everything about our order wrong, we sat without drinks for most of the night ... when addressing us pointed at us with a pen ... I had to go to the bar to get my fiancé (who’s birthday we were celebrating!!) a drink. We had to ask the busboy for help because he never came around. After telling him who’s birthday it was he gave me the candle 😐 he tipped himself 20%... after the service he gave he did NOT deserve it. The chef was great, funny and accommodating.
My S/O made a reservation for us and upon arrival, we only waited about 10 minutes. Our waiter came by to take our order and drinks. He was very blunt and unfriendly. I hate to say it but he didn't speak English very well and it made it difficult for us to understand him. He muttered, "is another celebrating an occasion today?" My S/O replies, "yes it's her birthday" and he just took off lol.
Our teppanyaki chef comes shortly after, repeats our orders (which I'm glad he did because I was worried our waiter misunderstood me)
As we watched our show and ate what was ready, I became thirsty and looked around to see if our waiter was nearby. He was nowhere to be found. I let it slide the first time as I was having a great time eating and watching but after some time, I notice the other people next to me where getting up and asking for refills by the bar! The lady didn't get her sugar with her ice tea and the other party in front of us were complaining about that waiter. At some point, it got so bad that they even talked to the manager.
After all said and done with our waiter being MIA, he finally shows up with my birthday ice cream! My melted birthday ice cream that is. My poor ice cream was probably sitting in the back melting. Sigh. Another waitress and a hostess sang happy birthday though, definitely a cute touch.
The other table next to us was celebrating something and had their picture taken. I even waited to have mine taken but again, our waiter was no where to be found. I even had to ask the manager for my picture to be taken which was really sad - quite embarrassing actually. Even then, the manager never came back and I had to explain myself to our waiter who finally shows up. He takes our picture and heads to the back only to be gone for the next 20 minutes.
In the end, my S/O and I walked out with no picture and was frustrated. I felt really bad because I know my S/O did his part and planned everything accordingly but the staff at Benihana ruined it.
I will always have a soft spot for Benihanas. I love the food n the whole experience. Victor was our chef n we’ve had him several times n he never disappoints! Never overcooks my fish, which has happened. And to anyone reading this, do not go to House of Genji, there is NO comparison. We went for a special occasion n I won’t go back even if invited again. Stick with the best n that’s Benihana!
I have celebrated birthdays at Benehanas in Cupertino for the past 20 years. I have noticed a decline in the quality of the food, particularly the steak (I order filet mignon). Also, our salad had hardly any dressing on it (the dressing is delicious, I often pay for a quart to take home).
In addition, we were sitting right under an air conditioning vent apparently, and were very cold. At first, when we sat down we all thought the window behind us was open, but it appeared to be cold air blowing down.
I am planning to research similar restaurants in the area, and break my tradition of visiting Benehanas for birthdays.
Our chef and service were courteous and pleasant, I am not including them in this review (as a problem)
The service was lousy. It took 40 minutes to get our soup after we were sitted. The server forgot to write down that all of us at the table requested fried rice so the rice had small portions of chicken and eggs. We had been going to Benihana for 30 years and this past 10/25/17 was the worst. We are not planning to go back for a long time.
I was really not impressed with this restaurant. I had heard good things but never gone there before. It was sort if empty when we entered because there is a bar area that looks more like a food court. We waited for our reservation and couldn't help noticing the dingy carpet with trash on it. While this may be a nice place for a family dinner I was expecting better service food and ambience. It was a let down.
We have been taking our 27 year old daughter to celebrate her birthday at Benihana since she was about 5 or 6. This restaurant never disappoints. The food is delicious and plentiful and you always get a great floor show. Watching the chef's cook is so much fun. Meeting strangers at your table for eight is usually an extra added gift. This year our party of four celebrated with another party of four. The child in that party turned eight and loves the place as much as our daughter does. It's also an annual for his family. It's good to keep the traditions going.
GREAT JOB, Benihana!
Benihana Cupertino is still there! So glad it didn't go away with all the changes in Cupertino.
Celebrated at birthday with gal pals and had a great time. Our chef (wish I could remember his name), kept us engaged with fun conversation and "food acts" I had not seen before. How does he make the raw eggs multiple? Mystery. Ha!
Was a fun evening had by all.
Food was good but the 'show' wasn't as good as usual.... we sat with another family - they ordered 2 chicken fried rice upgrades and we ordered 2 as well. Chef ended up with extra fried rice as they usually do but then instead of divvying it out to us 4 that ordered - she gave an extra bowl to the kid who didn't even order!! And he didn't even eat it and wasted it!!! She also made mistakes and dropped food on table and proceeded to just put it back on grill and then serve. A little disconcerting.... understand that doing the show requires practice and the more you do, the better you get but it shouldn't be at the expense of the price we pay to eat there. Also, our salads were served as we were being served teppan food - salads were tardy like the server forgot.
Sigh -not the best experience this time but my kid likes this place which is why we keep coming back...
was disappointed. the cook was not very good. he had no personality. he cooked, never said a word. after he was done he walked away. never did the volcano, did nothing. ruined our evening. we complained and the manager said he would talk to him and that was it. and he walked away. he didn't even say he was sorry. won't go back. We went there before and had a fun time with a cook who joked and did tricks, but this guy did nothing at all. just cooked and left. even the other people at our table complained too. and they had 2 little boys who seemed disappointed too. not fun at all. we were looking forward to this night, spent a lot of money but it wasn't good.
I come here for every birthday in my family and usually enjoy it. This time however we didn’t
The food was rushed through, I didn’t even see the rooster, the volcano was tiny, the sauces not as tasty as usual rather watered down.
It felt like they wanted to have 2
Or more parties at that table and that’s only possible if the other parties don’t stay there long.
They even forgot the picture
I was quite disappointed
No picture for my daughters 9th birthday
I had a very bad experience with this Benihana. We went to this restaurant on last Monday eve for my sisters birthday. We reserved open table but they didn’t send us any bday certificate. We got a mail from the customer care saying that it is send instead of resending the same certificate of giving us a prompt response. The manager in this restaurant also didn’t give us 30$ discount instead they told they will give us a free appetizer even though we were not interested in the appetizer. So I want to say that the customer care is very bad and also the service
we went here for a birthday celebration. Was taken to the table soon after we arrive at our reserved time. We waited for a while for our server to come to take our drink and order and the chef also took some time to arrive. The chef was really good and very entertaining. The food was delicious and my boys enjoyed the meal a lot. We'll definitely be back again!
The visit was perfect. I had a great time celebrated my birthday in Benihana with my daughters which was a memorable time together considering the fact that we do no live separately. Special occasions like this should be celebrated in a special restaurant such as Benihana because the food taste good and the employees are excellent with people. Also, I do appreciate the generous discounts you gave. Thank you very much.
