Benihana - Cupertino Ratings and Reviews
We had a terrible experience at this Benihana. Dinner reservation was for 6:00pm. We weren't seated until 6:30. We were a party of 3 and I originally thought the other diners must not be at the restaurant yet. Turns out everyone was there, just the restaurant was running behind. Ok, no problem. We were seated and our drink orders were taken. Everyone received their drinks except for my children who ordered strawberry lemonade. Our dinner order was taken. Everyone received what they ordered except we were missing a chicken fried rice that had to be made at the sushi bar??? and brought luke warm to our table. Everyone's soups were cold and had to be returned to be heated up. The dinner order was wrong. They forgot 3 steamed white rice orders that were finally delivered at the end of the meal. And we usually get a Benihana photo but their camera wasn't working. Overall it was a ridiculously expensive meal for being less than mediocre.
I have been to Benihana at least 50 times over the last 20+ years. I was very disappointed in our service and experience. Reservations were made for nine of us at 4:30pm, but didn’t get seated until 5:15pm. Our server was Pat, the chef was Lisandro and both provided a mediocre experience.
There were multiple instances in which Pat didn’t adequately prepare the chef during dinner. The food was cooked and served, but the dipping sauces had yet to be provided because there were no small bowls at the table. The food got cold before the dipping sauce was available. We were there to celebrate two birthdays, yet I had to ask for a birthday song and photo. However, no other employees gathered around to sing, it was only Pat. Then, the photo was very blurry, and no additional photo was taken. Instead of leaving the kids with a favorable memory of the night, the memory is more of disappointment.
Also, the chef was nice, but again mediocre. He did a couple of the basic tricks, but rather than seem excited about the demonstration he seemed ho-hum. No shrimp tail tossing, no egg rolling, no interaction with any of us at the table.
Other than not having the sauces available, the food was cooked well, and tasted really good. We pretty much ordered everything - lobster, steak, shrimp, scallops, chicken, fried rice...
Cook was great and food tasty but hostess was not available when needed and the service sub par
Much too noisy an environment and should have more sound absorbing materials for a more quiet dining experience
Restrooms are abysmal and atrocious as the towel and soap dispensers were falling off the wall and held together with duct tape. Restroom floors were dangerously wet and graffiti on bathroom walls is unacceptable. Music in restroom was abnormally loud and should not be noisy but quiet place to refresh oneself.
The Front foyer waiting area is too small and people crowd the entrance and do not know to move out of the way and I blame the hostess and managers for not watching the doorways for safety.
Kitchen prep on food carts shorted out table ingredients which added time to the dining experience of 30 minutes and the cart should have prepped properly for guest meal inventory for meals
Hv been going to this place for last6 years. Same good grilled food quality. Sashimi was not fresh. Service was slow. Waited 25 min even with reservation, another 20 before chef came. So hot from heat from grill. Bath room was dirty. This place is going down hill. Won’t go back again.
We went there for our daughter's birthday with her friends. The waiter knew nothing. He didn't know the potion for kids menu, didn't know anything about the beer selections. Got wrong orders three times. He gave us a wrong beer, which he said it was tap but came with a bottle. We said we don't need it because it was not a tap, then he said OK now it is free, so we took it. Kids menu beef was hard. At the end, the bill was full of wrong orders which we kept asking to change, and of course the beer was charged. We talked to the manager and she again asked us what we orders one by one. When our waiter came back with the right bill, he was grumpy. He did not apologize and gave us a unpleasant service. Our reservation was 6:30. We arrived 6:30. We were seated ato 6:50 with one missing chair. We finally was able to leave 9:30... We are not going to go back again.
Staff seemed confused with seating patrons. Chef was horrible. He didn't put on a show as other chefs do at this type of establishment. He seemed grumpy because he didn't converse with any of us at our table. We never received our desserts and the birthday boy left. We also had to wait a while before paying our bill even though no one was in line. They're lucky I had a coupon and that we paid.
Benihana is always fun! First time back at the Cupertino location in a long time. The bar was not set up for optimum service as they had pushed many of the tables back to one side making it look sloppy and in disarray. Drinks and service was fine though.
It was our waiter's first night and for him it was trial by fire and he did fine. What was supposed to be training for him turned into the real deal.
Our table chef was Joaquin and he was awesome! Funny, engaging and cool. Definitely a great chef to have as your host.
We were disappointed. This was our second time here and and was told they were running behind. Our reservation was at 5:30. We didn’t get out of the resturant until 8:30. Thank goodness I didn’t make the reservation later. Once we were seated it took awhile for someone to take our order. The kids were starving. For the amount of money we pay for dinner, there should be no excuse for this slow of customer service.
Food is good and fresh, and it was tasty. You get bigger bang for your buck if you go lunch time. I wouldn’t pay $30-40 though at dinner for the quality. Not all chefs are the same. If you get lucky, you get a fun and entertaining one otherwise they jump right into cooking without doing tricks. This would especially be a bummer if you have kids at the table :/
As for the surroundings, it seems a little less maintained even though updated. Can work more on the cleanliness. Just seeems gunky everywhere, would probably be more sanitary if they remove the carpet so the grease and smell do not get trapped in.
Still overall, not bad :)
My family of four dined together on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. When we arrived, the restaurant was quite busy and a few parties were waiting to be seated. I checked my party in at the podium. Since we were 10 minutes early, I was told that we would be seated very close to our reservation time. I was pleased to hear that. A woman without a reservation approached the hostess and asked if her party of five could get a table that evening. She was told that everything was already booked up, but if her party chose to wait, they could probably get a table in about an hour and a half. The woman said that was fine, they would gladly wait.
When my reservation time arrived (6 PM), we were seated promptly in one of the back rooms. A party of two was seated with us, so that made for six people at our table (it seats eight).
Our server (Francisco) and chef (Joaquin) were efficient, professional, and quite entertaining. They handled all of our needs beautifully (note: we had a seafood allergy in my party).
My family ordered Hibachi Chateaubriand, Hibachi Steak, Samurai Treat, and Hibachi Supreme. Everything was tastefully prepared and devoured almost as if by osmosis. No one at our table licked their plate, but I could tell that they wanted to.
I should note that while Chef Joaquin was preparing our fried rice, he cracked an egg on the grill and then made it into a drawing of a chicken. He said, "Welcome to El Pollo Loco!" I thought that was a darling touch. As he continued preparing the fried rice, he made it into the shape of a heart. With his metal spatula beneath the concoction, the heart-shaped fried rice began beating. It was another darling touch. Later on when he was grilling the onions, he made a flaming volcano, but after he extinguished the flame, he began banging his metal spatula on the grill as he pushed the smoking onion rings around, all the while saying, "Choo! Choo!" as if they were a steaming locomotive. It was fun to watch. All in all, it was a great meal
First, we had been waiting for the table more than 15 min. Then, they put us in the empty room, around the corner, so we were staring at empty tables. Our cocktails came in outpouring from the glasses, forming puddles on the table. Cook was good, but a little bit shy. Fried rice was excellent. We ordered spicy hibachi chicken and it was done, but instead being tender it was very chewy. We have been returning to this restaurant for more than 10 years and our impression is that its quality is declining. It's overrated and expensive. I don't think we will ever return.
We don’t even finish eating when server bring the check and 5 min later came and ask for the money or card. Then we still finished our drinks when he came back to ask if we can leave because there was people waiting for the table.
So DISAPPOINTED for the service.
If you want the worst service, here it is. It was over-booked knowing they have limited capacity. Our reservation was 7:00pm and didn't get to sit till almost 30 minutes later while everyone in our party were present. Our server James even argued wit us whether it was truly green tea, because we saw the color of one of the cups was different. When we needed him to clean the table he was no show, when we didn't need him to bother us for our conversation, he showed up multiple times in less than 5 min duration. Had it not for our mother's 80-year old B-day, we would not have gone there. By the time we were leaving, server gave us2 vouchers for dessert or appetizers, cannot be combined, toward next visits.
