Benihana - Cupertino Ratings and Reviews
Horrible service which was surprising since the owners were there. We first sat at the bar and a nice man helped us with drink options, after he gave us the drinks he disappeared without telling us a different bartender would help us in which we had to go out of our way to get service from him as well. That’s not the end...we had paid for our drinks at the bar and asked the hostess to seat us. We waited for about 15 minutes with servers walking past us and even making eye contact (The owners included). Again I had to ask for service. It was pretty disappointing considering how often I have been to this location.
There is always some variation in the food probably because the cooks change and the number of people they are serving often changes-especially during lunch. The meal this time was cooked quickly, for just two of us at their 8 person tables. This meal was served nice and hot, tasty, and well prepared. Lunch is a very inexpensive way to enjoy a full meal at Benihanas!
Made a reservation for 6pm. Our whole party was there well before that time. We waited 30 minutes and were told they were understaffed. My father is a diabetic, my child is 3 years old so waiting for such a long time when you have an reservation was absured. Eapecialy when your food still has to be cooked. We were seated and ordered promptly. Our cook didnt arrive until 7pm at our table to start cooking. No manager ever came to apologize or check on our experience. We didnt leave the restaurant until almost after 8pm. If it was not my birthday i would have probably complained but trying not to ruin the evening. I have been coming on my birthday since I was 16 but considering next year starting a new tradition.
If you haven't been to a place where the food is cooked in front of you with many tricks (if you'd like to get the spoilers, search for videos). While the outside has seen better days (it's next to a closed shopping mall), the employees make up for it and offer a nice show to watch with friends or well behaved kids (4+)
I thought for a birthday for a 3yr old, that this place was fun. The multiple birthday songs at other tables made our baby very happy. The food was healthy and she enjoyed everything she ate. The chef was very entertaining as well. The only issue I had was the chef table set up. If it wasn't one chefs table or the other, I had to sit next to the tray of uncooked food. Didn't seem sanitary. The way we were sitting we couldn't take pictures in away that showed that we were at Benihana's. I thought the decor was pretty plain. Our waitress was nice but forgot to bring my husbands streamed rice. I give this place 4.5 out of 5 because at the end the food was very enjoyable. But for a birthday celebration "nobody put baby in a corner"
Love Benihana’s food. However we were sat in a back area that was extremely hot due to the hoods over the cooking area not working which is what we were told. Our poor cook was even sweating due to having no ventilation at all. Will just remember to never get sat in the back again because we were told those hoods have never worked.
Family from Canada was visiting so we got together with friends. We had a later reservation and didn't have to wait to be seated. It seemed like there weren't a lot of servers working however, and while we didn't wait too long for drinks, we did wait awhile for the first "soup" course. We waited quite awhile after that and then our chef arrived before our salads did. He had to remind the servers we still didn't have them. Our chef "Mike" was really good. He got us all into the "spirit of Benihana" and actually had a few table tricks we had never seen before and made it really fun. Food wise it seemed a little chaotic and our side mushrooms/onions/zucchini were a little over grilled. A couple of the filets were overdone, including my own, and as a result a little tougher than I like. Service wasn't as on point as usual probably because they seemed short staffed. But overall everyone really enjoyed the food and the experience.
The food was ok not that great with the price that we paid . The cheft was in a rush when he cooked. We had reservation at 6:30pm but we still had to wait for our table and when the server told us that our table was ready, we came inside and then she said oh sorry please go back out and wait for 5 more minutes and that was weird. The service wasn’t good we asked for a spoon for our daughter and the server didn’t want to come to our table and forgot about it
We mentioned several times we had a birthday but never got singing. Also, 4 people in our group ordered the meal that comes with ice cream, but they never mentioned that when tLing our dessert orders until one of us remembered. Overall- I would say this was a mediocre visit, which is a shame as it’s my sons favorite place to have his bday.
What I appreciate the most was the service was amazing!
Was seated immediately after making reservations 3 days prior to the actual day.
It was my parents first experience and in celebration of my mother's 49th birthday, great entertain and great food. Loved everything about the experience.
I would recommend this place! 5/5
I like the food and service but they put a lot of unnecessary butter on everything. Could be healthier without all that butter. I also wish there was an alternative to so many mushrooms and onions on everything. Service was good. Place is casual, jeans and t shirts. Interior is run down, but I think this is because the owner of the mall is trying to get approval to tear down the building and develop the property into something different. Overall I would go again.
Food was very good as always. But pretty pricey. I guess your paying for the entertainment too. The chef was entertaining and the waiter we had was right on top of things in the begining but started to lag as dinner went on. We had to wait for soups, salads and forever to get the ice cream and check. We even went to the bar ourselves to get last drinks because they were taking so long. Over all the evening was nice and our 1yr old grandson enjoyed the entertainment and the food.
The waitress has a very plain face. The cook at our table did not put up much of show. When he finally made the volcano, it was lousy. The food quality was average. We came here because we used to like the Benihana in SF but that is far. Last time we went to SF, we were refused without reservation at Benihana SF. This time, we made reservation but found out the place was not full at all. Why didn't they serve people without reservation? There are many other places better than Benihana.
I think the tables could of been a little bit more cleaner and the vents above need to be cleaned something dripped on the cooking surface before they cooked our meal. My tea cup had lipstick on it when it was brought out and I had to ask the server for the steam rice that came with our meal.
This is where my daughter really wanted to go for her birthday and it is great for special occasions. However, with a reservation you should not have to wait 45 minutes to be seated. That was so disappointing and we had 3 starving kids on our hands. No apologies offered, discount, bring us some appetizers or something. I'm really disappointed in how we were treated. Once we were seated, the waitress and cook were great and the food was delicious. Still, I'll think twice about coming back because of the ridiculous wait. What's the point of having a reservation if you still have to wait that long?
We had a reservation at 4:30p. We didn’t get seated until almost an hour after our reservation time and other groups who came in after we did were getting seated before us. We have been going to Benihana’s for almost 40 years and unfortunately we have noticed a big decline in service and quality over the last 5 years. Not sure if we will go back at this point.
I have always loved going to Benihana, but I will never go again after this dinner. They forgot to put the grill on, so it took 30 more minutes of waiting for them to even start cooking. The waitress forgot our drink orders multiple times. After an hour of waiting for the food when it was finally ready a six year old had a screaming tantrum at the table next to ours for 20 minutes and the mom just ignored him. My miso soup was cold. Lastly the waitress took another 20 minutes after I gave her my credit card to bring the bill back. Complete disaster!
We were not impressed with the restaurant. The chef wasn’t very motivating or exciting. The food was just ok and it was expensive. The place was not very clean and loud. When we left our clothes smelled like the exhaust of the food being cooked. We will not be going back.
I went to celebrate my birthday and ordered scallops for dinner and when the chef gave me my appetizer was given to me I only got 4 shrimp tails and the scallops were so grainy that every time I tried one it felt like I was having a sponful of sand! We visit Benihana all the time but this was a very unpleasant experience.
