Benihana - Cupertino Ratings and Reviews
Longer waiting time even with the reservation. Too many people stood at the lobby. Chef was in a hurry mode to take care of many customers so the food quality, especially un-cooked fried rice. Waitress was not a professional. Very poor birthday picture quality. Overall, I was so not happy with the overall quality today.
The chicken on the Benihana Delight meal I ordered tasted terrible. I was surprised because I’ve dined at Benihana’s in the past and have enjoyed their food. The chicken was not under cooked but the issue was that the texture was rubber-like and tasted like it had been expired. After a few bites, I decided to play it safe and not eat any of the chicken.
I decided not to complain because it was my daughter’s 7th birthday and did not want to ruin her moment. I was extremely disappointed with the quality of food and it will be awhile before I book another reservation.
I’d rather dine elsewhere where the quality is better.
It was very disappointing. It wasn’t our first time and kids always enjoyed the fun. This time the chef (female) could barely speak English and was not entertaining and getting guests involved. Kids were bored and disappointed. Totally ruined our early Christmas lunch.
Our reservations were at 7:30. We arrived at 7:15 and didn't get seated until 8:15 and the chef didn't show up until 9pm. Chef was entertaining when he finally showed up after asking twice where he was. Service was poorer than poor. I will never eat here again or use open table again. It was my daughters 17th birthday and memorable for the wrong reasons.
This place lacks professionalism. We made reservation for party of 4 plus baby at 2:30 pm. We arrived on time. Place was empty, took them 10 mins to seat us. The staff at the front were standing around carrying on non-business conversation amongst colleagues. We heard everything they were saying.
Finally, when the host brought us to our table she mention that we would have the table to ourselves, then she said, “You are going to hate me but I’m seating you with another party of three would be joining us.
The chef wasn’t at all enthusiastic at all. Food was bland and rushed through.
Overall, We we’re celebrating my daughter 22 Birthday her first time visiting. Not happy with food or service. Won’t be coming back.
Our chef did well performance wise but he didn’t season the food very well. I understand you don’t want to oversalt but the flavor suffered. Also, I asked for my steak to be medium and he cooked it well. I was trying to tell him that but he didn’t understand what I was trying to say. It was a decent experience but it was not what I’ve become accustomed to at this location.
The server got everything about our order wrong, we sat without drinks for most of the night ... when addressing us pointed at us with a pen ... I had to go to the bar to get my fiancé (who’s birthday we were celebrating!!) a drink. We had to ask the busboy for help because he never came around. After telling him who’s birthday it was he gave me the candle 😐 he tipped himself 20%... after the service he gave he did NOT deserve it. The chef was great, funny and accommodating.
My S/O made a reservation for us and upon arrival, we only waited about 10 minutes. Our waiter came by to take our order and drinks. He was very blunt and unfriendly. I hate to say it but he didn't speak English very well and it made it difficult for us to understand him. He muttered, "is another celebrating an occasion today?" My S/O replies, "yes it's her birthday" and he just took off lol.
Our teppanyaki chef comes shortly after, repeats our orders (which I'm glad he did because I was worried our waiter misunderstood me)
As we watched our show and ate what was ready, I became thirsty and looked around to see if our waiter was nearby. He was nowhere to be found. I let it slide the first time as I was having a great time eating and watching but after some time, I notice the other people next to me where getting up and asking for refills by the bar! The lady didn't get her sugar with her ice tea and the other party in front of us were complaining about that waiter. At some point, it got so bad that they even talked to the manager.
After all said and done with our waiter being MIA, he finally shows up with my birthday ice cream! My melted birthday ice cream that is. My poor ice cream was probably sitting in the back melting. Sigh. Another waitress and a hostess sang happy birthday though, definitely a cute touch.
The other table next to us was celebrating something and had their picture taken. I even waited to have mine taken but again, our waiter was no where to be found. I even had to ask the manager for my picture to be taken which was really sad - quite embarrassing actually. Even then, the manager never came back and I had to explain myself to our waiter who finally shows up. He takes our picture and heads to the back only to be gone for the next 20 minutes.
In the end, my S/O and I walked out with no picture and was frustrated. I felt really bad because I know my S/O did his part and planned everything accordingly but the staff at Benihana ruined it.
I will always have a soft spot for Benihanas. I love the food n the whole experience. Victor was our chef n we’ve had him several times n he never disappoints! Never overcooks my fish, which has happened. And to anyone reading this, do not go to House of Genji, there is NO comparison. We went for a special occasion n I won’t go back even if invited again. Stick with the best n that’s Benihana!
I have celebrated birthdays at Benehanas in Cupertino for the past 20 years. I have noticed a decline in the quality of the food, particularly the steak (I order filet mignon). Also, our salad had hardly any dressing on it (the dressing is delicious, I often pay for a quart to take home).
In addition, we were sitting right under an air conditioning vent apparently, and were very cold. At first, when we sat down we all thought the window behind us was open, but it appeared to be cold air blowing down.
I am planning to research similar restaurants in the area, and break my tradition of visiting Benehanas for birthdays.
Our chef and service were courteous and pleasant, I am not including them in this review (as a problem)
The service was lousy. It took 40 minutes to get our soup after we were sitted. The server forgot to write down that all of us at the table requested fried rice so the rice had small portions of chicken and eggs. We had been going to Benihana for 30 years and this past 10/25/17 was the worst. We are not planning to go back for a long time.
I was really not impressed with this restaurant. I had heard good things but never gone there before. It was sort if empty when we entered because there is a bar area that looks more like a food court. We waited for our reservation and couldn't help noticing the dingy carpet with trash on it. While this may be a nice place for a family dinner I was expecting better service food and ambience. It was a let down.
