I’ve been going to Benihana Cupertino for my birthday for years. It’s always something I look forward to. My only complaint about this year is very minor, that they forgot to take our group photo so I’ll be missing this years.
We were sat around 6:20 pm with another family. Cook came an hour or so later, after we complained. By the time we got our check, it was around 8:30 pm. Felt sorry for the other family, who had 4 little kids. We've been coming here for the past 15 years. This was our first bad experience. Cook who came to assist was nice.
Always great food and fun atmosphere! Love coming here.
Have been here many times over the years for special occasions. They never fail to excel in service and food. Great Job from the Chef and waiters. Highly Recommended.
Long wait to be sited (30 min with reservation), long wait to be served (another 30 min)
Very good bar, great seating service (on time), great quality food always cooked as you ordered. Still the best!
I have been to this Benihana many times over the years, and this last visit, I came away with an impression of tiredness and routine boredom. To be sure, it is crowded like crazy (2 hour wait without reservation) and priced at the higher end. But service and food lacked the pizazz to make it all worthwhile. First timers might still enjoy the cooking show, but repeat visitors will find it unoriginal and unamusing.
We were early for our reservation and waited in the crowded lobby, which felt more like a busy bus station than a high-end restaurant. No one checked back with us, until we reminded them, at which point we were seated. Our server was most unimpressive and barely intelligible, but at least he did not goof up any orders.
Tried the Coconut Mojito and Mango Colada -- both were extremely sweet and lacked any distinctive flavors. The onion soup was reasonable, but the miso soup's saltiness masked any underlying taste. The salad had tired greens, but I do enjoy the ginger dressing.
The shrimp appetizers and the lobster tail were good enough, though now I am sensitive to the amount of butter they use to cook! Teriyaki Steak was also passable. But the Teriyaki Chicken was a big let down -- the chicken had a chewy flavor, and the sauce ran thin and flavorless. Spicy Hibachi Chicken was marginally better, with a more palatable texture, but again, the sauce did not impress.
The chicken fried rice is always good, but adds an extra $5 to each dish. Adding it all up, you spend at least $50 per person, and the meal / service leaves you wanting something more. Given this experience, I am not likely to return, and rather find more flavorful places to eat...
Food is consistently good but in our most recent visit we had to wait over a hour to be seated when we had a reservation and another 30-minutes before someone took our order! I think it'll be a while before we return.
We went for lunch. We got seated about 5 minutes after we checked in. My dad and I had sushi and it was absolutely terribly. The sashimi lacked flavor. On the bright side, the plating was nice.
Great food, great entertainment from the chef. Wait staff was excellent. Kids enjoyed themselves. Great, clean environment.
The quality of the food at Benihana has really gone down hill. You used to come here for both the experience and the superior cuisine, Thus you expect to pay a higher price. But after our last visit, I would say their food is no better than the other restaurants offering this experience where you would pay less.
Great food, great service - as usual.
Our female chef was fun and friendly, our waiter was friendly and efficient.
One of our best experiences at this location!
Food is always
Food was quickly cooked NO FLAVOR burnt taste. The cook wasnt friendly at all.
Second Review: DISAPPOINTING. One diner never received the rice ordered with the meal.
I shared mine. Same diner wasn't offered ice cream that came with meal until check was paid and others at the table had already left. Another diner wasn't served water until a server was hailed down and request made. Chef didn't perform, just cooked . No communication. At end of meal he attempted to juggle (briefly). It was a disaster. No one checked to see if there were wants or needs during the meal. It felt like we were being served with as little attention as possible so that we would eat and quickly leave. Perhaps that was because we had an early reservation (6PM). We wanted a Benihana picture taken (had one from August) but no one to ask and no one offered. Very sad. Fortunately, the table mates were delightful and the food was very tasty. If we ever return we will get a late evening reservation so we actually receive a warm welcome and all that Benihana stands for....including first class entertainment.
After dinning at the restaurant all of our clothes had a bad smell of the food from the hot plates.
It seems as there was poor ventilation.
The food especially the steak was really good but the place needs a face lift.
The wait was long inspite of a reservation. The chef seemed like he was in a rush. Did not perform most of the tricks and the once he did try were a failure. We have been here several times before but this was the most underwhelming experience. Chefs makes or breaks the experience & ours definitely made me regret my decision to choose this place for my son's birthday.
On a different note the hostess was great and knew how to interact with a bunch of 11 year Olds.
Unfortunately, our chef seemed quite bored and since the main thing about Benihana is the entertainment of the interaction with the chef, the night was an expensive flop. The food was okay, but it's an expensive restaurant and they really push you to buy extras like the fried rice. I don't recommend it.
Very friendly environment, people enjoyed the food very much.
Birthday certificate makes the value much better.
I will take my friends there for lunch soon. I think the lunch menu is more attractive and affordable.
Looks like it would be good for kids, but bad for everyone else. It was so disorganized and loud. I had reservations for four. It was my parents anniversary. It took forever to check in and even get greeted. Same for everyone else. After telling the host, not that he caref much, I ended up leaving and going to a new lux Brazilian place that I noticed just opened about a block down the intersection. I’m sure for a comparable price, we got luxurious treatment in a grownup and service oriented environment at the place is e moved to.
My boyfriend and I had a good time, food was good and out chef Mike did a really good job and was very skilled.
I loved everything! This was my first time! I will be back!
All was very good
Had nice family join us
Decent food with good quantity and quality. Need to use less butter to create healthier food
Great food and service. I get the lunch duet every time and it never disappoints!
It was great
Good food but very loud environment.
Celebrated my birthday and it was a blast! Our server and chef were friendly and fun! I had a great time with my friends and can't wait to come back!
Very Good Food and the waitress was outstanding. We enjoyed ourselves.
Why can't Benihana get it together with the number of chefs they employ???? There is always a wait, even with reservation, but this was ridiculous. Restaurant was not full and we had to wait for a chef for an hour. Benihana's is all about the wait - either you wait to be seated (with a reservation!!!) or you wait at the table for a chef to show up, or - most often - both! This time it was worse than usual.
It was one of our favorite family special occasion restaurant. But it showing age. The place is pretty rundown now. Dirty carpet. Unpleasant smell when walked in. The food and service are still as good as before but it's not a enjoyable environment anymore.
Monday night they did not have the crispy onions in the soup. Salad was chopped up like Coleslaw I think to hide the fact it was old.
Normally these two things are out favorite before meal treats but was disappointed this time. Asked our server these facts and he said they run out on Mondays and the fried onions were one of the things they ran out of?
Fortunately our chef was awesome and the main course were delicious.
Our waitress, who's name I don't remember but started with an S and wore lots of makeup, was gone for most of the dinner. I had to purchase my own drinks from the bar and even had to ask a different waiter for our picture. She was there to ask us for our order and to drop off the check. This was only our third time there, but our least favorite visit.
Service from chef was mediocre. We paid extra for the fried rice and even ordered a second fried rice and he gave the extra to the other party instead of the ones who paid for it. There were kids jumping from chairs and just that day was not pleasant.
The service was really slow, food just Ok VERY crowded and noisy
Our server was awesome. However the restaurant was running behind seating people, they seemed short-staffed, it took a long time for our chef to get to our table and he wasn't very engaging or into what he was doing. It was definitely not the Benihana experience I'm used to. Also the hosts were a bit flustered and a little unprofessional in their mannerisms. We went here for my husband's with our 2 year old. We didn't get a kids menu, no kid's chef's hat, no kid's cups left and no one offered to take our picture. Overall very disappointing except the food did taste good. Thankfully.
We will never come here again.
Birthday dinner for my boyfriend, we had a reservation for 6 people, they took forever to seat us.
After that we waited an hour for a chef, he was a sweet one though - we liked the guy and it so wasn't his fault, they were short on chefs that night, but c'mon on a Saturday you're short chefs??! That's got to be the busiest night for them!
The smoke from the hibachi grill was blowing at my boyfriend the entire time, so hot and smelled of takeout.
My drink spilled, no one came to clean up the sticky mess on the table, we pulled napkins from the bar to clean it ourselves.
It was loud, shared a table with people we didn't know - I didn't expect that.
The food was okay, our waiter was stressed but very sweet.
They took the one and only group photo and it was a mess, people were cut off, the cash register was in the background, a waitress was walking in the photo, it was just such a mess.
Also, they NEVER pick up the phone, I called everyday several times a day for a week just to confirm our reservation (booked on OpenTable) and to make sure we could bring his cake, never once did anyone pick up the phone.
This place is so overrated and the food, nor drinks were worth the price I paid. If the service and ambiance were on point, it would have been fine, but even THAT was a terrible let down.
We're never coming here again.
The service was really bad, the restaurant seems like it’s not very well managed they were even out of pepsi and other drinks. We give the chef 5 stars he was very nice but the rest of the service including the rudeness of the manager less than one star. It always being a great experience in the past but this last time horrible not worth the expensiveness don’t know if we’ll be back
Really love this restaurant. Always a fun time and the food is good.
The food service seems to be getting worse everytime. I always visit because I feel like it’s worth it, not so much anymore.
