Benihana - Coral Gables Ratings and Reviews
More children than adults in restaurant so if you want a quiet adult meal skip the hibachi table and go to sushi bar. The hibachi table meal is quite good if you don’t mind the hokey show by the chef. Soup salad small shrimp appetizer friend rice for nominal charge veggies from grill and entre. I like the seafood combo with large shrimp scallops and lobster.
At tables for eight there is always risk of incomparable table mates. I was next to a young adult woman who had the broth, about a teaspoon of rice and declared herself stuffed. I almost felt guilty eating everything I was served.
We went to Benihana for my sons 13th birthday, we were 8 total. I regularly go to the Benihana in North Bay Village but its always booked so we went to Coral Gables instead. The location is not as nice as the one in North Bay Village but was not bad. The chef was very nice (Carlos) and connected with the kids, they were entertained.
I had been to Benihana in Miramar and had a nice dinner. But in Coral Gables, the hibachi chef had no idea what he was doing. None of the 5 entrees were served at the same time. The shrimp appetizer was served LAST. The onions were served after the vegetables. There was barely any showmanship...
They were out of sherbet (included with meal) - they did substitute ice cream. Bus person was lurking throughout meal. And the restaurant was empty (6pm on Thursday) - so they were in no hurry. Waitress was good but the cook really ruined it for me. Quantities were small.
Food is good. Hibachi chef usual . They don’t insist on supervision of children. One at next table got behind our chef between hot tables and got “bumped.” Cried. Next to hot stove etc. Two girls were singing if your happy and know it and banging chopsticks on their plate. I’ll go to competition in dadeland next time.
My only complaint is that we didn’t get seated until 9pm - didn’t start cooking our food until 930. By the time we were done the kitchen was closed so we couldn’t get dessert. There was basically no point in having a reservation as it was not kept. We had small children with us - so it got pretty hectic. They did give us California rolls while waiting which was nice. There was very little “show”, we had to ask for the basics (steam volcano ) etc and then they complied. Will not go with an 8pm reservation again.
The service and food were overall great.
My family has food allergies to : ( dairy, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame seeds and beans. They are. They are beryb acomodating to the allergies and served an amazing meal even gave my kids a bowl of fruits for dessert because they could not eat the icecream. I recommend it to all and specially families with food allergies .
We like eating here but this week we went on a Tuesday, we where 2 and had reservations , we had to wait to get seated a bit which was ok but once we sat the dinner took over 2 hours! Getting the salad was over 30 minutes and the good took a good hour! It just took too long and the service was awful
