Benihana - Concord Ratings and Reviews
Food is always delicious. Our waiter was awesome! Wish I could remember his name. What to say about our chef. He knows how to cook. But that’s all. Our food was great but he was boring. He was so quiet and just did a few tricks. I wish we could request chefs. Our first time going we had a different chef, Shawn. He was awesome. I think he’s the best one there. It would be great if all chefs had a good customer service: Charismatic, fun, entertaining even to just keep up a conversation for more than a second and not just half doing their act. He was just boring.
Despite having a reservation and arriving 20 minutes earlier, we were seated 40 minutes after the time of our reservation. It added to 1 hour wait time - very annoying! Not to mention that we had 2 hungry kids with us who were not allowed to sit at the bar.
The tables were placed too closely together leaving a tiny passage for the chef (and his cart). As a result, the two next-door tables could not be served at the same time. We had to wait additionally for the table next to us to finish their dinner before our chef came in.
Ridiculous for such a pretentious place.
Rated fair because we made a reservation and did not get seated until 50 minutes later.
If we had no additional plans that night, it may have been ok. But, it made it hard when we had others plans after dinner. Dinner was extremely rushed. And I feel if you are going to spend over $300 on dinner, I wanted to be able to sit and enjoy it as much as possible. Disappointed considering we had not been there in a while.
Don't know if it was an off day, but we had to wait 50 minutes to be seated. This was with a reservation!!! The front desk team was not apologetic whatsoever. They just said they are waiting for seats to become available. Not quite sure why we need a reservation if we are going to be waiting almost an hour anyways. The whole family was a bit upset but the server and chef made up for that horrible wait time.
This was our 2nd trip to Benihana and we were there to celebrate my daughter's 11th birthday. She specifically requested it because of how fun her first trip was. This time was just okay. The chef wasn't as energetic, he barely spoke to us, and he wasn't as exciting as the first chef. I guess it's a chance to you take with Benihana. The food was good, but it's quite expensive for what you get. You're definitely paying for the experience. Also, somewhere there was a glitch in our reservation. When I made the original reservation through Open Table, I reserved a table for 4. After a change in plans, I went online and edited our reservation to be a table for 7. When we got to Benihana they only had our reservation in as 4. I know Open Table had us down for 7, because I got a confirmation from them and when I received this email to take this survey, it also said party of 7.
Service was extremely slow - we even had early reservations but still had to wait for over 15 min for our table (at 5:15pm). Then we waited over 30 min for the chef to arrive. It was not fun trying to keep the kids happy that long. Our server was pleasant but never came back to ask if we needed more drinks. On top of it, the place is SO noisy you can’t even hear the person sitting right next to you! The food was yummy but not worth the price or the experience unfortunately.
The food wasn’t that good this time. I eat here 2 to 3 times a week at the concord ca location but this time the cook wasn’t fun or didn’t enteract with the table. He didn’t put garlic butter on the food and he put way to much lemon on my shrimp so I didn’t eat my food.
We arrived at 6:52pm for a 6:45pm reservation. We were not seated until 7:30pm. And food (salad, soup) did not start to come until 8pm. We had 2 kids and they were starving.
I repeated asked the reservation/front lobby employees why we had a reservation but still had to wait for so long. They said because we did not arrive on time, we explained that there was a big accident on the freeway, we were stuck there and could not rush. I also peeked at the computer, everybody who had a 6:45/7pm reservations were not seated.
I think they should not overbook themselves or open up so many reservations if they cannot sit people in time. It was a teppanyaki dinner, so they should not overbook, since there is a limited number of seats. The front lobby staff was really NOT professional.
Our server was VERY attentive and made it a better experience. The wait was still very long for everything. When there are kids, the restaurant should at least serve water, the soup and salad first. Will have to deeply consider whether we should go back or not.
The food - once you get it - is very good and the preparation is always entertaining and fun to experience with groups. However, the one consistent problem you have to endure is the pre-meal terrible service. There is usually a 15-30 minute wait to be seated - after your reservation time. Once seated, you can wait another 15 minutes to service to begin. For a 6:15 reservation on Jan. 1, we were not seated until 7:00 pm. Once we were placed at a table, it took 20 min for someone to show up to take our drink order and another 20 min for the chef to show up to begin cooking. Yes, that is a total of 1 1/2 hrs AFTER our reservation time. No explanation, no apologies.
We arrived 15 mins. early for our reserbation but seated 20 mins. after. Was asked for the occasion of our lunch but no greeting, free dessert, or even the standard printed Benihana group photo was offered. Hostess when I checked in was rude. Chef was boring. No cooking show or jokes or anything said at all. Worst birthday lunch I have ever had at a Benihana restaurant. Far cry from their Japan town restaurant as far as service, food, and ambiance.
Went for my 15yo son's birthday, which is also NYE. They seated us right outside the kitchen. It was busy of course, which was expected. What I didn't expect at 7pm was how sweaty, tired, and frazzled the staff seemed to be. It was like they were coming off of a 24 hour shift. The food was mediocre -- wasn't seasoned well at all. The whole experience -- which is what this type of restaurant is all about -- was just bleh.
After waiting for our waiter for an hour we finally got the attention of the manager who thought it was ok to make a joke, when I said my food will be done before my appetizer comes out. They sent our waiter to break while we were still in need of service. We had to go to the bar and ask for our own drinks. As if that wasn’t enough the never sag happy birthday to my daughter (9) who had just watched them sing to the person at the table in front of us. And she had to ask the chef to make the heart while cooking the rice. (He forgot). So sad, and overrated...
Wasn’t what I remembered it to be. The staff was nice. Our cook was nice but not really into his presentation but the couples we sat with weren’t watching either. My children and I seemed to be the only ones excited to end up leaving feeling a bit disappointed.
