Benihana - Columbus Ratings and Reviews
Our chef didn’t do a single “trick,” messed up almost everyone’s order at our table, I didn’t get my entire meal (I didn’t get mushrooms, which were supposed to come with my meal), and three of my friends were supposed to get ice cream with their meal and didn’t. Our chef actually had two people at our table SWITCH THEIR PLATES bc she gave one of them veggies and they weren’t supposed to get it. What a terrible experience!!!
The tables around us had chefs doing tricks, fire shooting up, customers clapping and cheering, and our table was quiet and completely frustrated the entire time.
What a let down.
Made a reservation for my birthday, no one greeted us for several minutes. We were seated at a cold grill and had to be moved. The chef arrived and then was pulled from us because someone else requested him. Entree components were so spaced apart that they the were cold by the time the whole entree was finished. Overall disappointed.
We were absolutely disappointed in our last meal. We were so excited as we were celebrating 40 year retirement with friends and our son. Since our friends were sad about ending their working years, we chose Benihana thinking the entertainment of the meal would keep their minds entertained. We could NOT have been more wrong. The chef seemed to not have enough training, was NOT at all entertaining and didn't even engage or speak to us. Our shrimp was burnt and he just over buttered everything since he was so slow. We didn't want to say anything at the time as we were hoping our friends didn't notice as they had never had this type of dining experience before. The Polaris location is poorly managed and we would NOT recommend this site to anyone especially given the prices. We will dine at other japanese locations next time.
It’s a Japanese steakhouse chain but this location is pretty good. I would always recommend using Open Table to make a reservation and not just showing up, that way they are properly staffed and you don’t have to wait long. Their chefs are well trained and fun, especially if you’re good humored and/or have kids with you, they are always trying to impress. You get good value for money but expect to spend $25-30 per person all said and done. I would also recommend ordering another round of drinks early, all these restaurants tend to delay those second rounds and you may be close to finishing dinner by the time it shows up.
The only critic I would say is we were celebrating my daughter's 8th birthday. We had two kids with birthday's in our party of 8 and they didn't sing happy birthday even though we told them we had 2 birthdays and as we were leaving they sang to a kid at the table next to us which made our kiddos sad but other than that it was a great experience.
First off the food was amazing. The experience was not amazing. This is my second time eating at this restaurant, the first time i ate at this location was a few weeks ago and their was a huge fight inside the restaurant that even involved a serving being punched, this visit we made reservations. We tried to give the restaurant another chance after the fight a few weeks ago that ruined our dinner. This time we were sat down at our table with a very nice family but the family ended up getting up and leaving after 45 mins of not even getting a glass of water. Not one waitress came to our table even after we asked one waitress she never came back. The 5 person family actually started calling other restaurants and left after 45 mins of not even being acknowledged at our table. We were seated at 4:40pm and didn’t receive a waitress or water until the manager had to come out and help us around 5:30. This is 2 times in a row that i feel this $80-$100 tab was not worth it. The manager came out and waited on our table for the rest of the night and our cook was amazing but the fact that cook even came out and i mentioned we had been waiting for like almost 2 hrs now just getting a cook and he said “O this is the table that has been waiting” there was obviously a mix up that just had no waitress for our table but you would think the waitresses would talk to each other and find a resolution in faster time then a hr. It would have taken 2 mins for a waitress to stop and get us drinks atleast.
Chef was great, food good. Service staff was poor, nobody refilled drinks till end of meal, couldn’t get water. Wanted a second cocktail, never got that. Table wasn’t clean when we were seated. Expected better service. Again, chef was the only thing that save the night out.
Food was delicious as usual. Lunch prices are half the dinner menu price and the food and experience is just as good. It was our daughters birthday and my had to travel for work so lunch was our only option. It was a nice surprise when the bill came. Our family loves Benihana!
Our chef, Kevin, was one of the best we have ever had. We are regulars here and I have never written a review but he was so great that I had to share. My husband and my friends joined me in celebrating my 21 birthday . We were at the restaurant late and were the only 4 people at the table and Kevin was so funny and willing to talk. Our food has never been better and I will be requesting him from now on.
This was the worst "fine dining* restaurant I've been too thus far. We were on time for our 8:45 reservation but didn't get seated until almost 9:15. Our server never even had our drinks to us & we had been there for an hour. I noted in my reservation it was my boyfriends Birthday, no one at the restaurant made mention of it. The service & food where nowhere close to the cost they charged. I will never be back, recommend this place to anyone.
Although the chef burned the oil to start the meal, and that flavored the veggies some, she did a great job searing the veggies; shrimp excellent (not overcooked); scallops a tiny bit overcooked but still delicious. Great job with the seasoning of all. First time I've done lunch there in ages. Great amount of food for the price, versus what dinner runs. If you want to add a salad to the lunch menu, re-iterate to the server that you are ADDING it, not asking to substitute it for the soup. Waiter quickly made it right for us, bringing the soup as a later course.
Each time I visit Benihana, I spend $200-$400.. so I would expect decent service. Last night was the last straw and I wont be returning. I had a reservation with a birthday celebration noted. The service was slow, we waited a full hour after placing an order before any chef came out, we waited 25 minutes to just get waters. Waiter was curt... and even over charged us - we ordered a steak & chicken dinner to go and instead of placing the order as Rockys combo, he charged us individually for 2 separate dinners. To fix would have meant waiting even longer and he didn't even apologize. Last and insult to injury... they forgot my sons birthday (and DOLR reason I was there on a Thursday night) which I placed in my reservation and confirmed upon arrival AND with my waiter. My experience SUCKED. Next time... Genji or Japanese Steak House will get my money. I suggest everyone else do the same on my Facebook page. 🙅
I have been here for a team lunch, and this was my second time for my birthday dinner (using the $30 coupon). At first, we were worried we would have to leave because we had to wait for a table even though we had a reservation. The hostess asked us to wait because she had to seat a large group. We felt ignored for several minutes when she was done, but then someone else who was dressed as a server seated us. I felt maybe the hostess was overwhelmed. We loved that we had a whole table (hibachi) to ourselves. Our server Marcus was wonderful. Our chef, who was a young female named Brooklyn, was also wonderful. She was friendly and we had a good conversation with her. We had a great meal and a great night.
Vivian is one if not the best server at Benihana. She's ton caliber when it comes to excellent customer service and satisfaction. Very attentive, professional and quite courteous. Assistant Manager, Ji, is so very friendly and remembers me and my guest at every visit. She rocks!
