Benihana - Columbus Ratings and Reviews
Cook must have been New. The timing of food was bad. Everything was ate and served by everyone at the table before I got my steak.
Waiter must have been busy. Asked him to take our dirty plates. Had to wave him down for refills and to get our check so we could just leave. Our reservation was 8:15, seated right away but didn’t get our food until 9:30. Been here many times this was the worst. PS: my clothes still smell, very smoky. Ventilation must not have been working properly.
We were never able to eat. Unfortunately, i was not made aware that everyone in our party had to be in attendance before we could be seated. One person in our party was late because of car troubles and the hostess refused to seat us. They were very unaccomodating and rude! I doubt if I ever return.
We went for a birthday dinner. What a disappointment! The food was way overpriced, our chef was not entertaining (which is part the reason you go to a place like this), and the food was horrible, very bland, and way over cooked. I had to keep asking for more seasoning and it was still bland. Chicken and shrimp in particular were dry, the steak was actually perfectly cooked , but bland. We were NOT told of the $4 up charge for our fried rice which we all ordered including my small children. We were made to think it was an option, white or fried. What a rip off. The restaurant itself was clean but we were at our table freezing. I understand that there isn’t much you can do when it’s cold outside, but it seemed a bit much especially with a hot grill in front of us. We are a family that goes out to eat often and are used to paying premium prices for quality food. This was not the experience we expected. Not to mention no one ever acknowledged the 40th birthday we were there to celebrate. Over all thumbs down. With tip, we blew $175 with no alcohol, appetizers, or desserts and 3 kids meals on our bill?? Never again!
i was in charge of planning new years eve for a group of friends. i was excited to spend new years eve at benihana since it had been quite a while since i had been there. the manager greeting us was not friendly. we waited in the bar to be seated. service was very slow and we were the only ones sitting there. again, the bar staff was not friendly and barely made eye contact or acknowledged our presence. once seated, the server announced they were out of filet mignon at 8:15 on new years eve, which was surprising and disappointing. the server, nicolas, was wonderful as well as the chef. the chicken was bland. our table server, nicolas, and our chef were great. overall, it was a bit disappointing on new years eve. the manager should have better prepared having enough filet mignon on such big night and the bar staff needs to be better trained on customer service.
Benihana Columbus made for a fun and family-friendly time for our New Year Eve's dinner. We were there with my MIL and our 6 year old son who just loved watching the chef cook away (Daniel was wonderfully entertaining!) Good food and great service in a comfortable environment. Couldn't have asked for more.
We went on Christmas Day. We had a 9:00 PM reservation. We were there by 8:45 PM. No one was even at the hostess desk for at least 10 minutes to greet us. We were seated about 9:05. Drinks by 9:20. We still had not eaten by 10:00 PM. One of the people at our table asked to see the manager. They went on to explain fewer cooks, ran out of mushrooms and zucchini, and sorry about the delay. They discounted our bill. We didn't even leave until 11:30 PM by the time it was all said and done. Lighting was a bit too bright for night time eating. I would not recommend going there on a special night as they were not prepared. The discount should have been higher. The one person that complained - complained a second time. We are fairly sure he and his son's meal were for free (they did tip the servers though). They should have done the same for all of us.
We had a reservation at 7:30 we arrived at 7:10 to check in we didn’ t get sat until 8:30 they place was obviously under staffed we did not receive all the menu items that were included in our meal they did not start cooking our food for us until 9:30 the girl who came to cook at our table did not seem knowledgeable about her position we were there a total of 3.5 hours and we were not given any discount for the inconsideration of time and to top it all off my husband got sick later that evening probably due to the preparation of the food. I doubt we will ever return and most certainly will not recommend this place to our friends. If a restaurant is going to open on a holiday such as Christmas they should be prepared for the reservations they accept!
Worst dining experience of my life. Spent 3 hours trying to get food...and that was WITH a reservation. They were understaffed and then ran out of food. The waitress spoke very little English and did not understand our orders or questions. We have been there in the past and had no clue that it has become such a dive! Never again!
Our reservation was for 7pm, we did not get seated until 7:55pm, and we're not acknowledged until 8:20pm. Our drinks finally arrived 8:45pm. Luckily we all had plenty of time to look at the menu. Waitress said she would give us time to decide. NO..we are ready to order. There were not enough chefs so we had to wait for an available chef. The chef and some of our food arrived at 9:20p. However Onions were our only vegetable aside from a lettuce salad. The chef informed our table they had run out of a lot of food because they were busier then planned.
My wife and my movie tickets had been reserved for 11pm. However, we had to finally leave at 10:15 without dessert due to time. By the time we exited restaurant was 10:30p.
I had approached the hostess on four separate occasions to ask about service, chef, staff.
NO...I will never recommend this establishment! The waitress had no clue what a 7 & 7 was. Worst possible service for a holiday/special occasion.
Please save your money, after driving 30 minutes to get here and arriving ahead of our 7pm reservation we arrived to find that they had severally overbooked themselves. After waiting 30 minutes past our reservation time we were finally called back to a table that they had over crowded ( about 12 people around the table) .My Husband and I couldn't pull chairs up to the table and we weren't going to eat with our plates in our laps , so after all of that we asked to switch our orders to take-out. We were assured that the order wouldn't take that long 15 minutes most, 30 minutes later I approach the hostess to inquire about the order only to find that she forgot it, it had been sitting. We finally arrived home to eat the much anticipated food only to find that all of it was not present... Thank you Benihana for the less than happy christmas dinner. We will never dine here again.
This restaurant booked more reservations than had the capacity to serve. Was there for nearly 4 hours. Many people walked out but we chose to stay as it was Christmas and most restaurants were closed. The food was good and the host and chef were really nice, I felt just as bad for them because it wasn't their fault. Would not recommend this place on a holiday. Big error in management.
We had reservations for 1215 but we arrived early 1150 ( on Christmas Day) we were told by the host that we were early and we had to wait. We waited in the lobby until 1215. The restaurant was very cold. The food was good but for Christmas and for $30 + per meal that the food should be excellent. The server and the cook were friendly and efficient.
Somewhat disappointing from beginning to end.
Seated late even though we had reservations.
Service was exceedingly slow. Our server, Christian, seemed to try hard but was still very slow in bringing ordered drinks, etc.
Chef didn’t arrive at our table until way past reasonable and was either unprepared or very disorganized.
We experienced one of the most painfully slow grill performances ever. The table was close to the front window, and we were very cold, desperately hoping that the lit grill would give off a bit of heat. That didn’t happen since the chef was not really blazing through the items and the temp of the table was kept low.
We waited a long time between each ‘course’ as chef seemed unable to grill more than one main item at a time. And each of those took a long time to cook on a low temp grill table.
He became somewhat argumentative with a few customers who disagreed with portions of the order, but finally relented and asked our server to bring additional shrimp from the kitchen.
I ordered the chateaubriand and mushrooms as my main course. Chef did not grill the mushrooms until he’d finished grilling several other main items (slowly) -it was almost as an afterthought so I was not able to enjoy them with my steak. First time I’ve ever had mushrooms served as the final course. It seemed very odd to have a grill chef so unable to maintain a decently timed flow of the individual items for our table. The manager did offer an initial apology for the chef arriving so late, but the offer of a complimentary appetizer did not really help with the continuing extended delays during the rest of the meal.
We made a reservation for 7pm and upon entering the restaurant, was told it would still be a 30 minute wait. We didn’t get seated for 1.5 hrs!!! Why make a reservation if that time wasn’t going to be honored? Seems like poor planning on their part, especially during the holiday season.
We have been to Benihana several times, and have always had good experiences. We went on Christmas Eve and they had overbooked the evening. We were seated 45 minutes late, waited at least 15 minutes for any service once seated and didn't leave till almost 3 hours after our original reservation. Service once seated was generally good, but they ran out of iced tea (odd). Our chef was good, but was relatively new. We still had fun and the food was good, but they should not have accepted so many reservations.
We had reservations for 645pm, we had to wait almost 45 minutes past our set time, you couldn’t hear the host calling any names, I had to keep asking him if our name was called. The waitress was very nice, however the chef had no personality and didn’t speak to us at ALL. Very very disappointed. Probably won’t go back
This was our first time and we were greatly disappointed. The entire experience was less than satisfactory. They gave us dinner menus at lunch because it was Christmas Eve and we had to ask for lunch menus. The lunch portion was very little food compared to other restaurants of this type in the area. Our chef was slow and our rice was cold by the time we got our meats. My steak was under cooked and I did not get the mushrooms I was supposed to get with my steak. We will not be going here again. I will spend my money at one of the competition where I can count on good food for the price
The hibachi chef was very inexperienced. She miss counted and made errors on several orders. The sevice was slow. The chef tricks were non existent. The salad and soup were bad. The filet migion was pretty good but not any better than all of the other Japanese Steakhouse’s in Columbus while the prices were more than all the others. I rate this restaurant a D- and will never go back again.
So about the only pleasant part about our “reservation” at Benihana was that we ended up finding a hibachi place that will be our go to from now on. We had a reservation for 6:45 and we checked in early as I always do. 7 rolls around and two people walk in after us with a reservation for seven, remember these two for later. In the fifteen minutes we had been waiting we saw several people go up and ask how much long and the guy always said 5-10 minutes. Around 7:15 I asked the same guy i checked in with earlier how much longer it would be and he asked when my reservation was which I told him 6:45 and then he asked if I had checked in on time. Which I did. He said they were just waiting on a table and it would be another 5-10 minutes. It is obvious that is what he is told to say because this appears to happen quite often. After our “5-10” minutes were up he called up this group who had been there for 10 minutes to a hibachi table over this Mom who had been there with reservation longer than we had. My wife and I decided if we weren’t called for the next table we were leaving and sure enough that couple from before was called in to the next table. So we left, it was over 45 minutes after my reservation and people who had been there less time than us were seated. We will not be going back.
Our chef didn’t do a single “trick,” messed up almost everyone’s order at our table, I didn’t get my entire meal (I didn’t get mushrooms, which were supposed to come with my meal), and three of my friends were supposed to get ice cream with their meal and didn’t. Our chef actually had two people at our table SWITCH THEIR PLATES bc she gave one of them veggies and they weren’t supposed to get it. What a terrible experience!!!
The tables around us had chefs doing tricks, fire shooting up, customers clapping and cheering, and our table was quiet and completely frustrated the entire time.
What a let down.
We have dined at multiple Japanese Steakhouses in Columbus. Every single person in the group voted this as the best. My son's are asking when we can come back. The Chef bent over to provide us with the best service and well prepared food.
