Benihana - Cleveland Ratings and Reviews
The cook and waitress was very nice and playful. The restaurant was clean and quite. I’ve been to Benihana several times before and the later you go the more crowed and noise it will be. So we set the lid reservation for 2pm. Great visit at the Cleveland location!!
I've had great experiences with this restaurant in the past but this time was the worst customer service I've ever received. We were not greeted at the door, a family that walked in long after us was seated before us. Even though we reserved for that specific time and was later seated at that same table. In addition, one of the employees were rude including the manager when we informed him of a situation that occured. The food was great like always, our server and chef was very nice. However, I will not be returning because I refuse to spend my money somewhere I am disrespected.
My husband I had our first date here over 12 years ago. It was fun, delicious and overall our favorite place for hibachi. Unfortunately it has changed so much. When we arrived there was no one at the desk. After check in the hostess went back into a room with a bunch of employees and didn't pay any attention to the front. After we were given our salad it was an hour before the hibachi chef arrived. He was nice-but he put about a 5-6 tablespoons on every single dish he made...not the fried rice which is made in a large quantity...and forgot all seasonings on my chicken. The chef used his spatula to pick up raw chicken then tried to serve us our noodle appetizer and I told him NO. I asked him to please use something that has not touched raw chicken and shellfish. This is dangerous for children. He argued with me and told me he wiped it. Wiping it with water is not washing it properly especially the way he did it. I have been coming to this restaurant for years and am so very sad to see it go downhill. We came New Year's Day evening and expected an awesome experience.
HI, I went to benihana for a birthday celebration. The service was not good at all. Twice I had to leave my seating to find out when my chef and/or waitress were going to come to or come back to our station. my reservation was for 8:30, I don't think we got our chef until 9:30 or later. chef was very entertaining and the food was good. I would say the service was really not good at all. I will come back to benihana again, but if the service is the same, then i would hesitate to come back again.
Restaurant was clean, seated quickly, wait-staff was helpful and aware of the needs of her guests. Habashi chef was friendly, and put on a good show in cooking the meals for the 6 people at our table. Everyone got the fried rice, we also asked and got our steamed rice and hot green tea. The habashi steak had a chunck of fat on the end, that the chef trimmed away. Birthday folks were treated to an ice cream for dessert - lots of 'doggie' bags. And everyone took a double yum-yum sauce.
To start, I had reservations for 7pm. We arrived at 6:45 and were seated at 7:15. (the restaurant was not full). We were told that the heat was out and they'd been working on it all day. Everyone who was already seated had their coats on. We sat 40 minutes before our server came. When we inquired, within that time, we were told that she was coming. We finally received our drinks at the same time our cook came. Although the flavor of our food was great, the cook was slow. Everything was ice cold by the time the last section was cooked. The manager suggested that we eat our rice and vegetables as they came so that we didnt have the problem of our food being cold. Excuse me?? Ultimately, our meal was discounted and management apologized but after rethinking the entire night...our meal should have been completely free. The restaurant floor was dirtied with food and debris. They had an excuse for everything but no resolution. It is my opinion that Benihana's time is up. There are other restaurants with better service and food who go over and beyond to please their customers.
The restaurant was freezing cold. Our server told us that someone broke the heater. The food brought out was cold and when brought to the servers attention she told us that she could put it in the microwave. The server brought out chicken fried rice and we told her that we didn’t order it she told us that it was the vegetable fried rice we requested and then proceeded to argue with us when she brought the check out with chicken fried rice on it. It had to be the worse experience I’ve ever had at any restaurant. It was definitely the last the the time I’ll ever visit Benihana.
Very slow. Despite reservation and empty restaurant it took 15mins to be seated. Then another 15mins before we saw a server. Once we finally ordered and chef/food arrived then things went better. But it was a 2.5hr ordeal with a lot of waiting . Food was good, chef was entertaining. Overheard several adjacent tables asking about the long wait, so it seems we had a typical experience.
Awful experience. Nothing was prepped, our chef game out with a half completed cart. He had to keep asking Kitchen for additional meal items. After sitting at the hibachi grill table for 1 hour, the grill hadn’t even been started for our dinner. Ended up taking 2 hours of sitting at the table before all meal items were completed. Also, didn’t get served the dessert that came with my meal. At that point, it was almost 11pm and i was too frustrated to even worry about it. Will not be back nor recommend to anyone.
Over the years the service has declined but I usually go once or twice a year because of nostalgia...its okay if you do not expect too much...but for the money, it is not a great experience...its more on par with generic hibachi restaurants than Wasabi, sadly...
Server was not good and pretty much absent for the entire visit. Which would have been okay except for the fact that she kept forgetting to bring us things that we ordered or requested. Chef was nice, but maybe a bit inexperienced so it wasn't the "show" you expect. Food was good.
The staff were very unprofessional and kept yelling at each other. At one point, one chef put the middle finger up to another. The people at our table asked for extra of everything, but the chef/waitress didn’t bring anything extra. At one point we weren’t going to get zucchini because someone asked for extra. When we asked if we were going to get any, the chef asked for more to be brought out. I don’t think he would have unless we asked. My husband got fried rice but most of it was giving to the other group when they asked for more. Chef forgot to give my brother chicken for his Benihana trio (guest at the other end of the table asked for extra). He then asked for more to be brought out. He then cooked the raw chicken next to the steaks being cooked to medium rare. The steaks finished before the chicken. The chef then yelled at me when I pushed it to the side of my plate and harassing me if I wanted it cooked more. The place was dirty. Overall a sad birthday celebration where we had to ask for the food we paid for.
We came for a birthday celebration. We used to love coming here but it has gone so downhill. Service is slow and the timing was awful. Chefs aren’t fun. Steak was thin and tough. No seasoning on veggies. Plus the birthday used to include a “celebration “ with a picture. Now it’s a candle stuck into ice cream. The place used to be packed. It’s empty now and I can see why. Disappointing and expensive.
Our server Tasha was great. But the overall experience was awful.
They no longer cook with garlic butter. Which is ridiculous because it’s what they are known for. Now you have to buy it as a side and put it on yourself.
Rice was crunchy. They replaced it and it was mooshy with no flavor. Was even a different color.
Corn was burnt.
Steak was put on my plate along with all the fat. Gross. And mushrooms mixed in which I don’t eat and wasn’t asked first if I wanted.
Just not a good visit at all. It seems like I haven’t had a good Benihana experience in years. And for the price it should be excellent every time. We won’t go back
Food tasted delicious. The chef interacted well with our table. However the waitress was not attentive to the needs of our table, seemed as if she had an attitude. I only received half of an order of shrimp, when I told the waitress she asked me “are you sure you didn’t eat it?”!!!!!! She then proceeds to get the manager who said he would have a chef prepare it in the back and bring it to me. When the shrimp arrived at my table it was not the colossal shrimp I ordered but instead the small shrimp that comes with the meal as an app.
Ths is my 4th time coming. First time i came wirh a friend I was impressed..the second time with my parents it was pricey but fine for the occasion. 3rd time with friends the food was horrible cold and uncooked. This last time it took the cook over 1.5 hours to prepare our food and he was boarderline rude. I wont be back!
Normally we enjoy our visit but the past couple of visits have been not as good. The food is great but the service is not so good. This visit we didn't get our appetizer at all and my daughter had to wait until all the other food was done to get her steamed rice. The visit before this past one we got our sushi when we were wait g our main dinner. I think the service could improve. Hopefully next time things will be better.
Everything was excellent except when it came down to asking for a side of fried rice. I know it was a big party, but I had to ask 3x! Waiter was very patient though and kind, so I appreciated that. The other issue was when I asked for separate checks. I used my Birthday Coupon and thought I could only use it for getting $30 of additional food once the entree was ordered. I ended up getting one check (for the three people in my party). I really did not like that experience. I think it should be determined upfront how the checks will be split. Our waiter did not ask upfront if the checks would be split. He just assumed it would be all under one check this I what caused the problem.
The food was excellent and we loved the chef. We would still return and recommend to others.
The chef was extremely rude no matter how much I told him to make my food a certain way he had an excuse and would not do as I asked I asked for garlic butter he said I use more garlic butter than any chef here or I already put extra on it I don’t appreciate how he made me eat my food the way he liked it I will not be back
The restaurant was 2 chefs down for the night yet they continued to take reservations and seat people. Expectations on wait time for meal were not set. 3 hours from when seated until when we left. Got 50% off bill, but not enough to justify horrible inconvenience
