Benihana - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
I had a horrible experience.. After I placed my order I went to the website to see if they had a lunch special. The website stated all locations have different special and to call that location. I called the location and ask the representative about the specials. She put me on hold and came back to the phone and stated the lunch times were 12pm to 215pm. When arriving to location I told the host my name and reservation time she said have a seat. While we were seated the hosted returned an stated they no longer have lunch specials on Saturday. Puzzled to how she knew it was me that called. I told her I was told by associate that by phone that is was a lunch special before I can.. She told me she must've forgotten and she was sorry. I ask to speak with the manager. I explained The story again and she said sorry we no longer have lunch special. The manager was rude and dismissive. I also explained I traveled far..No empathy at all.She told me there's nothing she can do.. I was livid.I left very unhappy and I won't be back... Neither will my family and friends..
Very dissatisfied customer
I spent over three hours there on a Thursday. It took an hour and a half for our chef to come to our table. Only after an hour and 20 minutes did the manager come over and explain that they were down a chef. No other table experienced the delay we did. The table next to us had their chef within 20 minutes of sitting down. No offer was made to compensate us for our long wait. Even after waiting that long to start, we had to wait for 20 minutes to get our check. We go to Benihana a couple times a year and it is one of my favorite restaurants but I'm not sure I will go back.
This used to be a much better dining experience a few years ago. The restaurant was cold and drafty and our cook wasn't very good. He cooked the food in the wrong order, the appetizers and vegetables first then the seafood then steaks and he made the fried rice last. We prefer the rice be cooked and then the main dish. The servers were very good and friendly.
I don't understand why we were the very first table for the day and still waited an hour once we got to the table for a chef to come out and start! We also had to wait 15 minutes to even be seated at our table. The restaurant opens at 11:30am which is when we got there our reservation was for 11:45 and was seated at 12 and then waited an hour!!!!!!! You can never come here to eat if you have any other plans!
My family has frequent Benihana for probably 15 years now as it was my favorite restaurant. I have noticed over the past year the chef's have stop using garlic butter in the food- which was the purpose we chose to come to the restaurant. Also I just went to dinner for my birthday last month - no song was sung, and no pictures were taken, I was disappointed. Please consider bringing back the garlic butter while cooking. I heard this complaint from others at the table.
Was very disappointed to get there and to find out they no longer serve lunch on the weekends. $100 lunch for a party of 3 is little on the pricey side. Only stayed because we were celebrating a birthday. The heat wasn't working and it was really cold. The food and service was great.
Josh was our chef, he was very entertaining, he cut everything into smaller pieces which I loved. I am glad that we had him, it made our anniversary great. Our waitress was Rachel, she was very good. She kept our drinks filled and was around whenever we needed anything. Overall everything was great. The food, service and friendly staff were all great. We will be going back. Please give everyone a big thank you for making our anniversary great.
We came as a group of four. We loved our food everything was great. The only thing was something was missing from the famous yum yum sauce. It was not as dark as it usually is something slightly sweet was missing. MJ was a great server and Josh was a great chef thanks.
They charged for white rice, although it comes with meals, and they charged $1.50 for extra pats of garlic butter (they say 1 is complementary) so they are skimping and nickle & diming on everything, despite being super expensive. AND their HVAc system was broken for the third time we’ve been there this year.
We had a new cook and he was very unfriendly. We would ask him for soy sauce or garlic butter he would ignore us. The food was good but the cook was horrible no personality at all. No customer service skills. I was very unhappy with the cooks overall attitude
Food was great. Chef Rudolfo was awesome, we always request him. Part of our table had an issue with the bill, waitress added her own tip to the credit card after cash tip was left... Also heard waitress complaining about tips from other tables as she was walking outside to smoke a cigarette... Also the interior was a mess. They had large humidifiers in every room and one was was boarded up with plywood. Not exactly the atmosphere you want when your spending hundreds of dollars for your family to eat.. and the restroom, always disgusting.
Very ghetto, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone unless I was playing a prank on them. It was around the first of the month maybe that was the reason for the excessive odor of cocoa butter and the apparent "cornroll and weave type" atmosphere. The chef was ok, but the fact that he was Hispanic and was speaking in Spanish to another Hispanic couple the whole time he was cooking was kind of odd.
It was extremely cold in there. The heat may have been broken. There were only 2 chefs working so it made for a longer wait time. They no longer use garlic butter on everything, only on your rice and the veggies were mostly onions and a much smaller portion.
I was a regular at Benihana for 20+ years, I had stopped going there after all the problems at this restaurant. It had been close to a year since I had been there to eat, I was pleasantly surprised with the improvement the new management has made. The food and service was very good, compliments to the new management.
To be honest this was the worst experience I've had at Benihana's I love to go there it's my favorite restaurant that's why we went for a special Christmas for me the food was good the service was terrible the chef was not very good our reservation was 6:30 and we didn't eat until 8:30 we got our soup and salad and drinks pretty quick but you only had the server was spread between four tables and it just we didn't get offered any ice cream or tea at the end of the chef did not bring enough food for everyone at the table I didn't get any shrimp or zucchini since I was on the end. It was just not a good experience when we brought it up to the manager he took $10 off the bill not that I was looking for a handout but I think you could have done a little bit more.
They were having heating issues and had portable units all around. Where we were seated was so hot I had to get up and go outside to cool down. The waiting area was freezing. Temp was so irregular throughout the restaurant. I overheard another customer stating they were told it just went out but we attended a Christmas party here two weeks before and all the temporary heating units were all over the restaurant then.
We have gone to Benihana for years and feel you don't get this taste anywhere so we keep going. After driving around all over last Christmas, this year I opted to reserve with Benihana. Lately the wait at Benihana has been awful. We really thought we would have an hour's wait Christmas night also but were pleasantly surprised this wasn't so. Our table was packed with 8 diners, but we were given plenty of food... very important if you put 8 at a table not to short the food. The chef, Angel, seemed young and timid, possibly not understanding our language, but he was able to make a great tasting meal.. not overdone at all. Quite possibly we will return next Christmas.
New chef - not a good show and did not fully cook a few things. Some were sick later but we didn't know that while in the restaurant. The other party addressed with the manager and they did remake a few things but did nothing for us. Did eventually talk to our table and seemed to not care that the show was why we came as much as the food. Very disappointed that they forget that the show is part of the experience and the comment "you ate the food so I can't give you any discount" when we hadn't even asked was just poor service. I think maybe a new manager too. Just not what I would expect for a special occasion and very bad response to the situation too.
This is the 2nd time we have had a terrible experience. I can only assume that this was the waitress and chefs first attempt. The waitress (Tori?)took an extremely long time to bring our drinks (other tables received their drinks even though our order was taken long before them). She spent the first 1/2 hour being very attentive to our water glasses and then disappeared for most of the rest of our meal. We were stacking up dirty dishes because she couldn't be found to remove them.
Our Chef (Demetrius) did not seem to know what he was doing. He couldn't cut thru the vegetables or steak without have to use the knife as a saw (sharpen it!). He smashed the fried rice into the bowls creating a rice paste and then couldn't figure out why he had so much rice left over. Luckily, we just asked him to put it on the plate to eliminate the paste.
When cooking the main entrée, it almost seems as if the food was being prepared 1 client at a time. He was literally rubbing the fat on the each steak across the griddle to prevent it from sticking. The shrimp had the tails cut off, but on the adjacent shell (we had to remove them ourselves).
The orders were not confirmed (we had to tell him) and then they were not cooked as we asked. My daughters order was not even on the tray. When everyone else had been served, we had to ask aobut her order and Demetrius has to call in a replacement order (he didn't recognize that he hadn't cooked her main course.
We were there from 6:30p to after 8:30p, mostly waiting for our food to be served. Other tables had started after we did and we almost finished by the time we got all of our food.
Very disappointed in our experience. Unfortunately, this was the second time in a row that the service has been poor.
This was a birthday dinner for my son and my husband and by far the absolute worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. We got seated close to the time of our reservation. There were multiple large units with clear tubes/hoses going up into the ceiling - I suppose for ventilation? Very unattractive. Our server was nice - but not very attentive at all. We eventually got drinks. We made our orders and sat and chatted. Soup did not come out for quite a while - and we started noticing that tables around us (that were seated before us) were just sitting there and staring off into space (no chef was coming to their tables). The tables with chefs were not very lively (we have been here before and also enjoy the Iron Chef so are familiar with the Hibachi experience). Our salads come out about 20 minutes after our soup. When we had sat there for 2 hours (with just soup and salad) I went and looked for our server (I think she was hiding from us) - another server asked to help me and I stated that I thought we might leave - he offered to get our server and the manager. Our server came out from the back and offered us an appetizer or sushi because of the long wait. We ordered and sat and waited again. After another 1/2 hour - we got up to leave. 1 order of sushi came out at that time - by another server who told us the other 5 orders would be started in the kitchen soon. At this time the manager came out to tell us there had been call offs and they were short staffed (this was the first time I had seen the manager - she was not out in the dining area the entire time we were there). We had one person in our party that had to work at 11pm so we could not wait any more. She did give us business cards with "Free Meal for One" scribbled on them - I doubt we will ever bother going back to this restaurant - we will stick with the Iron Chef. We ended up eating at Steak-n-Shake for the 2 birthday boys - we had a delightful server - and tipped her $100.
