Everything was great: our server was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The chef cooked the food to perfection, and the bar staff is always very good!
We went to Benihana's for Father's Day. We reserved our table through Opentable and were seated promptly by friendly front staff, which was a nice change of pace for this location. The front staff seemed to see customers as an inconvenience the last time we went there. This time they were friendly and prompt. Our waitress was also very friendly and attentive...so far, so good.
Where things started to go pear-shaped was when we looked at the menu. It was a "Holiday" menu which meant that the only items listed were the most expensive. We had unfortunately not memorized the everyday menu and weren't even sure that the regular items could be ordered since they were helping us celebrate by trying to make us pay double for nearly everything that would be on the menu any other day. Luckily, our waitress, when asked, told us that everyday items were still available and walked through what they were so that family could get normally priced food and my 84-year-old mother could find something on the menu that didn't make her head spin due to the price or the fact that practically nothing offered on this "holiday" menu came without something aquatic.
That's when our "chef" came out...almost an hour after we had been seated. To say that he was listless would be like saying Einstein was slightly above average intelligence-wise. Part of the reason for even bothering with Benihana's on any occasion is the cooking. It's as much theater as gastronomy. Our chef didn't get that memo. Not only had he obviously been just recently trained and couldn't get the simple tricks right during his "routine" he didn't bother to interact hardly at all. I can cut up my own chicken and steak, slap a pound of butter on it, and then slide it onto a plate with a knife myself, at home. Due to his seeming lack of training I think he was mainly nervous but for these prices I expect more.
We may go back to Benihana's at some point, but I can't imagine why.
Food was ok, with melancholy service attitude
We were there for THREE hours! Didn’t get our food until the restaurant was already closed!!! The server forgot to turn the grill on, this added an additional 20-30 minutes of us just sitting there waiting. The cook was DRIPPING sweat the whole time. Steak was not cooked thoroughly. The entire restaurant was extremely LOUD and ghetto. I always thought of Benihana as an almost upscale dining experience, NOT AFTER THIS! It was truly horrible.
Took us almost 3 hours after making a reservation then our trip wasn’t on when the chef finally arrived about 45 mins after we sat down. So we had to wait for the grill to heat up which was 15-20 mins. The server was MIA almost the whole night and the chef did his best but it’s hard to be the chef and server. Then a bowl shattered on the grill while our rice was cooking so the chef had to start that all over. He was very apologetic and the manager gave us $20 off for the inconvenience. Which was nice but having worked on management I think he should’ve comped it all.
Tables hold 8 don't book for ten and everyone shows up. Be mindful of c children in the room.
We were celebrating a coworker’s be position. We had a reservation and was seated in a timely fashion; however, our food didn’t start cooking until and hour later. Our waitress, MJ, and our chef, Charlie, was awesome. I just didn’t like being there for almost 3 hours. The efficiency MUST be improved.
The service was ok. The food was good, but the chef was not friendly or entertaining. Angel barely spoke to us the whole time. The experience was disappointing and we were there almost 3 hours. I kept waiting for things to get better they only got worse.
The food was blah since they no longer cook with the garlic butter like they used to. Definitely not worth it.
Lunch with granddaughters. Loved it!! Fun time & the food was excellent. Enjoyed our lunch & will do it again
I've been to a few different ones over the years and in my opinion they have steadily declined. The food was decent but the show was average at best and to spend 120 for two with no alcohol is crazy for the portion sizes. I am in a Japanese steak house with a cutlery show and I expect my chef to be Japanese. Sure the young man tapped his knives often but way below anything I've experienced before. I won't be going back.
The Chef and waitress were exceptional, great food, my favorite place to eat.
We arrived on time for our 8pm reservation and we weren't seated until an hour later. We waited another 52 minutes for a chef to come to our table. His food was decent, no seasoning though. Once our food was prepared, they rushed us through eating, delivering ice cream before we were done and making us feel like they were ready to go home. A chef came and threw water on our grill as if he was ready to clean it, and splashed water near our food. The facility itself is old and it looks dirty. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. This is the only location I've ever been to that has an armed guard in duty. I've been patronizing Benihana for decades and in multiple cities, but this is by far the worst location. There used to been an element of elegance and sophistication that has gone away. The only good part was our very apologetic server, who tried to make up for this horrible experience.
Our reservation was at 7:30, we sat by 8, but we did not have a chef until 9:30. We ate soup and salad, and then sat and waited for an hour for the chef to arrive and cook our entrees. The waitress and chef (once he arrived) were great and were obviously working hard. The food was delicious. They told us 3 chefs called in sick but I’ve heard this has happened a lot. They seem to be overbooked and understaffed.
We have always love Benihana and frequent The tri-county location on a regular basis. But, this time it was beyond outstanding. The food and the chef was exquisite and the server ‘s Customer service skills were outstanding. The cleanliness and ventilation of the restaurant has greatly improved. Kudos to all the hard work you have done at the tri-county location.
We had fun here. We were all a bit surprised at how much salt and butter was used in the cooking process. However, the steak and cold water lobster was delicious.
It was my 9 year old bday
Charlie is excellent!!! The food was delicious! This was a great experience!
On this occasion our chef was festive and energetic, and the food was tasty! If I could have him every time I would go more often!
Worst experience I have ever had at Benihana. Food not seasoned well..cross contaminated the food using same cooking utensil for steak and chicken. Splattered oil on one of the guest. Forgot one of the guest chicken. Did not ask about any special occasion...had to bring to his attention. Asked if wanted white rice or fried...neither menu or cook shared white rice is included with entree and fried rice is $4.60 . If going to have to pay for fried rice white rice should still be given in addition to fried rice that was paid for. Cook (stating cook purposely) because was not a chef). Personal appearance /attire was not neat...grooming was not pleasant on the eyes. Individuals come to a resturant of this type to enjoy the ethnicity associated with such not a European or African American as the cook.
Took my daughter for lunch and it was very good. We were in and out in a timely manner and served Diondre was great
AWFUL..was there for 3 hours total. We got our salad quick then waited 1/2 hour before we got our soup then waited at the table for ANOTHER HOUR before the chef came out. Joke!! The mgr was completely unapologetic, could have cared less. My bill was $168.00, she begrudgingly comped me $12 whole dollars saying she can only give 10% as a manager...come on. Will never ever go back which is sad, its my favorite restaurant been going there for years. Nope, lost a customer.
Dinner took 2 hours from the time we were seated. The room was very hot and uncomfortable. Food was ok but not worth the money.
Extremely slow service even though it wasn’t busy. Dirty floors looked as if they hadn’t been swept in days. Mistakes with both drink and food orders.
The service and chef were excellent. We have noticed that for the past year or so the chefs have been using quite a bit of black pepper. It is nice for seasoning but it has been a little excessive from three different chefs. Everything else has been great. We have enjoyed dinner at this location since 1983.
Good food, questionable service, but nothing less than expected.
Service was fast!!!!! We were done within an hour of seating and previously it took 2 hours when we visited the last few times. We will be back again next week.
WE LOVED THE GUY THAT DID YOUR COOKING. The only thing was we had to wait so long to get our check so we could leave. But we love the food!
Service was poor had a 8:15 reservations didn’t Eat Till 9:53 they were actually closing up it was so lste. The chef didn’t listen to how you preferred your steak... and had horrible table courtesy. I dine here at Benihana often but in Michigan where the environment food and everything is 100% better I don’t know what happened here maybe there were short handed I even had to her my bill correct. Like everything was bad I’m sorry I wouldn’t recommend this location to anyone. Not worth my 200 dollars
Our chef was messy and did not portion the servings out equally
Few things that we loved: We loved the experience of eating right from the oven. Amazing to see food getting cooked right in front of you. Nice to see theatrical chef!! We are vegetarians and the chef cooked our food first. Since it was my hubby's birthday, the staff gave free ice cream to all of us and they sang him a birthday song. Hubby also got a to-go drink free.
Few things that needs to change: The lady at the reception was bit rude. The wait time to be seated is pretty long. They took good 20 min on a weekday with reservation to be seated. The chef arrived after 1/2 hr to the table. The start up is very very slow. Chef could barely speak English. This place can be noisy as the chef are cooking at most of the tables.
This used to be my favorite place but not anymore!! The quantity of food is minute compared to what it used to be and the price has gone up!! The chef we had only did one thing and that was it!!! Definitely not worth the money anymore!!
Where has the health department???? This place in general as run down, dirty and sticky, and the bathroom stalls were barely standing up. Place smelled bad!! They put sweet and sour mix in my Vodka Martini -- what the &*(%????? I immediately sent it back and it returned with more sweet and sour mix..... Vodka martinis don't have sweet and sour mix in them!!!!! Server was lovely but overworked. Chef did a good job, food was good....except the Tempura was swimming in grease, literally! And oh, by the way, what is up with the security guard? I never in my life have dined someplace with and armed guard (I have dined and travelled internationally, no armed guards there!!!)
For my first time there the food was good and the chef was wonderful
We LOVE Benihana! Wherever we have lived or traveled too
We always go. This visit we had the BEST Server we have ever had.
I waited over an hour for a cook to arrive at lunch time
I had an actually good experience this time. The chef was very interactive and accommodating to the other guests at our table who had specific request. The server was very attentive. I just wish there was a way to avoid sitting with people with allergies to specific food. We had someone with shellfish allergy so we had to wait until after everything was cooked to get our meal. By then, the veggies and rice are cold. So the customer with allergy is inconveniencing the others. I know there is probably nothing that could be done but next time, if someone has an allergy, I'm moving tables. Lol
Went for my birthday and wasn't disappointed. Not loud or crowded, our server was great, chef awesome and friendly! Great company yummy food!
Seated at 7 didn't eat til 9 ....waiter was so over whelmed , and short staff , she kept forgetting our table ......UGH
Great food, great fun! We come here for our special occasions!
