Benihana - Chandler Ratings and Reviews
I have always enjoyed Benihana’s, but this last time for my 19th birthday I was not impressed. Our grouped ordered something similar to the other group at our party, our chef messed up the order and put it on another party members plate( which was the wrong party member) then asked if it was okay if he toke it of her plate and put it back on the grill. This is against health code, and found it very uncomfortable and awkward. As what was the member in our party to say.
I was very disappointed!
I love Benihanas in Wheeling, Illinois....and enjoyed this one in Chandler, AZ, as well in the past.... always pleased with it....but this time it was like eating old used food....for instance...the shrimp tempura with just few very small shrimp was dry an tasteless --a waste of $8.00....and the salad must have have been left over from a day or two before as the lettuce was soggy and lifeless...
I am used to getting an abundance of sautéed vegetables with the meal---there were hardly any....mind you, I am comparing it with meals eaten at the chandler restaurant as well as the wheeling Illinois restaurant.... I think they're trying to save money, but by doing so they are losing customers.... SHAME ON YOU!!!!
Overall, it was a good experience as always when we come celebrate one of our birthdays. The one complaint I had was the family that we got to share a table with. They complained A LOT about the fact that they had to sit with us as according to them, the person over the phone told them no more than 8 people are seated at the grill. It made for an uncomfortable meal as we felt like we didn't belong there because of those folks. Not only that, but the mother of the family made it a point to bring up the fact that the hostess was rude to her, which again, added to the uncomfort level we had to put up with at the table.
Even though we had a reservation we had to wait for a table. It took long for the food to start arriving only one person sang Happy Birthday for me along with our new server and my kids were so tired from the wait they fell asleep half way through the meal smh won't go back also it's over priced.
Worst server ever! Girl said she had 3 broken ribs, so carrying stuff was an issue. She was all over the place, constantly forgetting things. I've been here countless times, this was horrible. The chef overcooked my scallops, they were clearly burnt looking, and disgustingly chewy. Disgusting! They were cooking the entire time he worked on lobster, shrimp, and chicken. I asked for a different set and they were okay. All the food was really bland, from the rice to the meat. The most flavored foods were the vegetables.
At the end, our table waited 20 minutes for our check, then another 15 for ice cream. We had to ask for a bag on our walk out, the waiter never came back to check on things, even after we said yes to her bag offer. Again the worst, never spending another birthday there.
I thought lots of things were great. But my shrimp was way overcooked and once our food was boxed up it took 45 mins to get the checks and leave!! It was so weird and annoying because our server disappeared and then a manager asked if we needed help, then left and never came backz, and then another manager offered to help and finally came back way later. Also, after all of that, when we got the check with our card back, it didn't have a new receipt to show it was charged and to sign and leave a tip?? And no one was around to ask about it. After the 45 mins of trying to leave... We decided to just go. It was fun, but the overcooked food and poor service made it disappointing.
Chef talked too much on a personal level, told us to tip the wait staff, noise level not very condusive for dining, accoustics were non-existant, felt like we were being suffocated after the air vents were turned off, could not wait to leave, won't be back. It had been 4 decades prior to our recent dining experience and now I know why it had been 40 years.
Fun trip to Benihana! This wasn't my first time there, but it is always such a fun experience. Outstanding service, and it doesn't hurt that the food is great!
A word of caution - you may get seated at a table with people you don't know. Many of the tables can accommodate around 10 people, and I'm guessing that during peak times (we went during Saturday night dinner rush), they will group different parties at the same table in order to more efficiently seat people. While I was a bit apprehensive about this, and I was not informed ahead of time that we would be sitting with other groups, the environment is conducive to getting people talking to each other; by the end of the meal, we were all talking about our lives and interests like old friends!
It was our 15yr anniversary the cook was young and very inexperienced it took forever to get our food and my chicken was not cooked all the way. Was very upset we also went last year for our anniversary and they where understaffed don’t think we will go back next year big disappointment!!!
We made reservations to celebrate our 20th Anniversary and were ignored when we tried to check in. After what felt like forever, I finally said excuse me, is this where we check in, and was told yes, hold on a minute. He finally took my name, and I assumed checked me in although he didn't confirm. The next group was greeted, asked if they were celebrating something special, and told they would be seated shortly. I immediately felt that we were not wanted in their restaurant, but love their food so we stayed and decided to make the best if it. The waitress was terrible, spilling drinks on the grill, spilled our soup, and didn't come back to check on our drinks. The chef was good, just graduated high school, but he did a good job. I love to go to Benihana for special occasions, it's a treat, and very expensive. This location, based on my last experience, has gone down hill. We won't be back.
The food has been great, but we would like to make a reservation that includes the chef. We come in frequently and have gotten the chance to have many chefs. Felt like Taylor was by far the best and would like to at least try to include him with our experience as much as possible. Thanks!
