Benihana - Carlsbad Ratings and Reviews
We go to Benihana very frequently. We were there on a Sunday for lunch and we were only the 3rd table in the whole restaurant. This time we sat at the table for 30 minutes before a server attended us. The bartender took our order when she delivered the sushi roll we had ordered at the bar. Like I said, we frequently go for lunch and dinner, and we have never waited this ling for service.
The servers were nice enough, but our chef was not super-talented and the “show” part of the dinner barely even happened. My daughter, whose birthday we were celebrating, even looked over and said, “that’s it?” It was very disappointing, and the food was mediocre at best. I used to love Benihana but after a couple of experiences like this, we might be done with it forever.
I have been to Benihana twice this month. The first was for a dinner on a Saturday night. It was quite "energetic." The chef/show was fun, but you could not have any conversation with the members of your party. This time we went for a late lunch and it was nearly empty. We hardly watched the chef and enjoyed a leisurely lunch. The lunch price & portion and were perfect. Good food, well prepared.
This is the second year in a row I have been greatly disappointed by this location. For starters, there are always dirty dishes everywhere in the restaurant the wait staff can put them. Pre-bussing either doesn't happen or when it does, dishes are not brought to the back of the house but left in any area the staff can find to put them in the dining room. Also the ventilation is quite poor making the environment very stuffy. The servers seem pretty incompetent as well, not even understanding how to speak to guest. Families are allowed to let their children run all over the place creating disruption to other guest, let's say when a child runs into a woman like me walking on a cane. This last visit I honestly felt like I was at a zoo. My soup was served almost totally cold, like it hadn't even been thought to be warmed in the least. We left since the year before we had equally bad an experience (and thought it was maybe a fluke) and went down the street to a place where our money was much better spent. Uninterested in ever returning to this location. I hope this is Carlsbad exclusive because I have always adored the Beverly Hills location.
We had a wonderful experience tonight at Benihana. Our chef Nick did an amazing job. He was funny, talked to us and kept us entertained the entire time. Our server was a bit overwhelmed with the amount of tables so her service was a bit slow. But Nick made up for the lack of water and drinks. Great job Nick. Keep working hard and thanks for the fun time.
My family and I ave been going to Benihana for more that 32 years. We have never been disapointed until this Sayturday night. Not sure if this was our waiters (Andrae) first night but the service was very poor. Had to ask for more drinks, table was not cleared when it should be, we had to ask for our picture to be taken and he was slow. Our chef was amazing ( Christian).
This will not stop us from going back but we are going to be watching.
2nd Time to this place. Food was excellent and our chef was entertaining, but we had a 7:30 reservation and waited over an hour from when we sat down til the chef arrived to cook. He apologized profusely for the wait and promised to talk to the manager about compensation for the wait, but when the check came, there was no discount. Very expensive and not a good value for what you get, we will not be coming back EVER!
I was very disappointed with my Benihana-Carlsbad experience. I had been to Benihana's many times before and had a great experience with lots of food, and a fun time for groups. This time it was a terrible experience. So bad we almost got up and left.
We made reservations for myself, husband & son. It was my son's first time and we were so excited for him to see the show. Our reservations were at 6:30pm and we even got there early at 6:15. We weren't sat until 6:45, and we didn't get anything but water for a solid half hour. We were now 45 minutes past our reservation, and I had a son who was on a meal schedule & had bedtime. I got up to ask for a manger (something I've probably done once before in my life). After I had explained to him we had been waiting far too long, the manager just said sorry, that one of his cooks got sick & had to be sent home. Okay, I understand, but also not my problem. Figure it out, or at the very least comp some appetizers for the table as we all waited.
The cook finally came out at 7:30.. an HOUR past our reservation. The food was average and minimal.. didn't even feel like a full meal. He was in & out. I felt even more bad for the other two couples at our table, one celebrating their anniversary, the other celebrating his wife's birthday.
Long story short, I never write negative reviews, but I was shocked that management didn't even come out to apologize, comp part of our meals, or offer complimentary appetizers.
Nostalgic for date night. Knew what to expect. Chef Jorge delivered as expected. Too noisy to catch everything ,& didn't catch servers name. I think she asked if we wanted change, boosting tip from 22% to 25%+ Minor in overall, but left me with slight taint on otherwise nice meal.
The place was filthy when we walked in for our noon (opening time) reservation. The carpets were not vacuumed, and the table we sat at had a thick film of black grease on it. Our shoes were sticking to the floor. It was gross.
Service was outstanding, and the food quality was just ok.
Unfortunately, when the place isn’t clean, we tend to wonder what the kitchen in back where the prep is done looks like...
My date and I had a great, relaxing, and cool experience at Benihana’s. Our chef was really nice and made sure he got every order right. I dislike onions and he made sure a single one didn’t touch my chicken fried rice. He did break the ice by joking about my dislike for them and pretended to put some in my meal. Overall I had a rad experience and would definitely go to this establishment again.
Unfortunately been to this restaurant several times always good but it caught up with them being too busy. Booked it with you for 7:30pm dinner. So hostess checked us in verbally forgot to do it on her computer. As we watched people walk by that we should have been with. I walked up front and said what happened. They stated we are sorry we didn’t check you in. My daughter was starving no offer for an appetizer or get you at an available table within a certain number of minutes. No timeline. Manager will be over to talk with you and another 15 minutes passes. He gave us $40 in coupons still no food offered . Another 10 minutes and we finally get seated. Another 35 minutes before our cook arrived. Everything was good from there. So we started eating at 9:00 with a reservation arriving at 7:20pm. Didn’t feel they were really concerned. Something for their corporate management. Thanks.
I hadn't been to Beni Hana for a number of years. My wife took me there for my birthday dinner. I was pleasantly surprised at how much fun it was viewing the antics and skills of our chef. The food was great and the entertainment by our chef made it a great experience,.
We were visiting from San Francisco. (Family of 7)
When we got there we were seated within 10 minutes of our arrival. We had reservations. Waiter took our drink order with 5 minutes of sitting down at our table and was super nice. Chef came out fast too which was great because we were hungry. Our chef was awesome, super entertaining and the food tasted great. Our waiter came around quite often to check if we needed refills or anything. I definitely recommend this location to other people.
