Although it had been at least 20 years since we had dined at Benihana, we were disappointed. The food was mediocre (we had the 5 course dinner, with different entrees), the chef (Saul, not exactly an Asian) was workman-like, not inspired. We don't intend to return.
On the other hand, there was a family of 4 enjoying a birthday (how many 13-year-olds pick Benihana for a birthday dinner?} and a very nice couple from Beijing at our table. The bar was crowded when we arrived and when we left, as was the small waiting area. Valet parking is free and efficient.
In summary, I guess that Benihana is attractive for younger patrons. (All the patrons waiting for tables seemed to be under 35.) Maybe they'll come back; I'm sure that we (and all at our table) won't. BTW, it's ok to just say that we're just old f##ts. We've earned it.
Great food. Love Benihana!
Portion sizes smaller and the table chefs seem like they are over worked. For the price of dinner it could have been better.
Service was horrible. It actually gets worse each time I'm there. I dont really know why.
I never got water. I asked 3 times for a plate and napkin.
It's not exactly "reasonably priced." I spent $183 and was so let down.
I won't be returning anytime soon.
I love their garlic butter. You can buy it. I asked for it twice, I never got it. I was given a little tiny tub enough for 1 time.
The chef was great...and so was the food.
Service was lovely and restaurant was very clean. A step stool in the restroom under the sink would be a helpful addition. Food tasted great; only exception was that my chicken was VERY dry. The chef made extra jokes for my toddler and he had a wonderful first visit as a result. It’s always a bit awkward dining with strangers, and the gentleman next to me kept spreading his legs apart and bumping in to me, but that’s not exactly the restaurant’s fault other than the expected shared table experience.
The food was pretty good and the service was good as well (cook and server). Those are the only positives. I was visiting from out of town, and I am a regular Benihana customer. But I was VERY disappointed to make a reservation, drive 45 minutes only to wait another 45 minutes. On top of that, the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. The trash was overflowing and it obviously had not been cleaned in hours or the entire day. My husband said the men’s restroom was equally disgusting. That was by far worse than any restaurant bathroom I have visited in my entire life. Then as we proceeded to the table, it was also not clean. My husband and I actually contemplated getting up and walking out but it was already almost 10:45 PM and we hadn’t eaten all day. So we prayed for a good outcome and decided to stay. Thank God the food was good otherwise, this place would have gotten a zero star from me.
We made a 8:45 reservation but were made to wait and weren't seat until 9:30. That was the primary issue with service. We arrived on time for our reservation and were told we only had to wait 10 minutes for our table to be cleaned. But after waiting 20 minutes with no seat, we went up to ask what the delay was and was told the same, our table was being cleaned and we would be seated in 10 minutes. Finally after waiting for 10 minutes shy of an hour we were seated. It made reserving a table seem a bit pointless. And there were others who had made reservations as well, who left because they had waited too long to be seated. Although, when we finally did make it to our table, the service was good and the food was great. Other than our cook forgetting to make my shrimp. I waited for him to remember but once he started to clean and pack things away, I told him that I only had steak and no shrimp. He apologized for forgetting me and made my food. Overall, the night turned out well after a few hiccups and a bit of frustration.
Made reservations for 8:15. Arrived on time and didn’t get seated until 9:15. 1 hour wait. What is the point of reservations?
We had 8:15 pm reservations for our family of 5. We were celebrating 2 of of our kids. We arrived to the restaurant and checked in at 8:05. We were not seated until 9:10 pm! We had 3 children with us; 14, 10, and 5. We were seated at table an hour late and then waited another 30 minutes. The wait was unbelievably long and eating at 9:30/10:00 is ridiculous.
Everyone around us was seated 45 min to an hour late too.. kids crying, adults angry. The poor hostess took the brunt but I wouldn’t recommend taking reservations if you are going to be that behind. The hostess was not honest about the wait either (numerous times asking) so people were 30 min waiting & then too late to leave & go elsewhere.
Carlos was a great chef!! Good food and made dinner very entertaining.
Food was over priced, extremely noisy environment, food menu price was not clearly marked.
The cook was really reall
Yummy food and service was great! Love the interaction between the chef and diners. My group had a wonderful time.
Benihanas is always a good choice for family fun. Sign up for the chef table to enjoy a $30 gift certificate on your birthday!
Benihana in Burlingame has the best view as it is in the waterfront. You can see planes landing and taking off while having lunch. Our chef - Leo was excellent, he was very professional and kept it lively and fun for everybody. The food was good and we will definitely come back again to celebrate more birthdays and anniversaries.
The waiter was rude and demand i give him a biggee tip when the service was horrible not to mention my daughters food had a hair in it after i let the waiter know he did not even offer to take that plate off the bill bad experience my daughters birthday was a bad experience at benni
Food & People are great, BUT everytime we go to this location the windows, the doors, the tables and the bathrooms are all filthy and disgusting. Not once or twice, it’s been that way the last 4-5 times we have been there. Good thing my kids love this place!
We had reservations at 6pm and didn’t get seated until over 1 hour later. Also, I requested one of the more private rooms due to a family member having a disability and they did not accommodate us and they never usually do when I request this. Our chef was Cameron and the food was the worse I’ve ever had there. We usually go here a lot and have never experienced the food tasting as bad as it did that night . He put way too much lemon on the chicken and it tasted sour. Fried rice was dry and no flavor. The zucchini & onions were terrible and usually are always very tasty. My sons chateubriand had a funny taste as well. Won’t be going back there anytime soon. Benito is the only chef that cooks everything the best always.
This place is consistently a fun locale to grab a meal. The chefs are awesome in their preparation of the meal and their energy of presenting the entire process. The menu has food has tasty and varied items to choose from and also very tasty drinks. The environment is truly fun and vibrant. I can honestly recommend this place for its fun environment, quick service, and chef entertainment.
My last experience was nice as usual. However, the server unfortunately put my take-home order in where I ordered regular rice and got spicy rice. An additional item I ordered on was incorrectly placed on another guest’s bill. The bill was correctly quickly and with honest apology. Stuff happens and it was corrected so no worries there.
The rice however wasn’t discovered until I got home so it was too late to get that corrected. :-(
An entertaining dining experience for the family.
Our server was not good at all. Not focused didn't check on us. Probably the worst I had and I've been there a lot
Outstanding teppanyaki style restaurant with tables for 8 or more.
The food is well prepared and fairly expensive for what you get. The drinks were surprisingly slow in coming and the waiter had to be flagged down for a second round. Overall a good experience and opportunity for a family outing.
My Husband and I celebrated our Anniversary and we had a blast! Our cook and server were awesome and made us feel comfortable.
Way way too loud on a Saturday night and they refused to honor our coupons since we lacked a secret password...that was so secret they never even gave it to us.
I was excited to take my I family to our annual dinner since we don’t celebrate the holidays due to our work schedules. This was my second year dining at your restaurant as my Christmas present to them The food was excellent and my young grandchildren ate everything on their plates I was not pleased with the chef (Ken) because he did not entertain us like others have in the past I was disappointed There were other young adults at the other side of us and I felt bad for them In the future can I request the top chef for my table? Service was good Thank
I had my first visit at Benihana in San Francisco. It was a great experience as far as dining was. The cooks were pretty much of an entertainer too with utensils as their musical tools. Great performances! Great cooking expertise. Because of this, when I invited my former boss and his wife from the Philippines for lunch, I had only 1 place in mind .... Benihana! This time at the Burlingame area. Awesome!
It’s a good place for a kid’s birthday. We had a reservation and were on time, but we had to wait awhile to be seated.
Overall, the food and atmosphere was great. However, I was there for lunch with family for my son's birthday and usually they bring out the birthday treat and do a photo, neither was offered except for the ice cream off the kids menu. Kind of took the first time experience away from him and we felt sort of forgotten about that he was there to celebrate his birthday. But nonetheless, it was a good time.
One of the most horrid dining experiences I’ve ever had. We had to wait over an hour for chef to come out, and once he was out he was very dull, unhappy and it just look like he did not want to be there. He didn’t do any tricks or entertain us in any form and he was completely rude. Service was extremely slow. And I think and we did not get a green teas or a happy birthday celebration. Truly disappointed in Benihana’s service and will no longer be returning.
In typical Benihana fashion, we were greeted with smiles and seated promptly based on our reservation. The food was delicious and the service was attentive. I would suggest bringing the Teriyaki Salmon back to the menu.
Waiter was too slow. Hardly came back to check on us.
Great for birthdays!!
I love that style of cooking seems very healthy and a good menu!
It was my birthday and I didn’t get a picture or anything??
There was a group of 20 young girls that were very loud and annoying. Very disappointed this time. This has never happened in the past. I will be reluctant to come back especially for a special occasion.
The food was great and service was quick and good to us. What I absolutely hated abt my first experience here was that it was full of noisy children. But there was one especially annoying, everyone would look at them and stare but the lazy mother wouldn’t do crap abt it . Maybe the manager should have said something to them idk it was awful. You expect to have a nice time for the price you are paying 🤦🏻♀️!!!
Rude hostess and slow waiter service but decent food
Loved the cook was very polite and very silly the waiter same man as always does a wonderful job
Walking in the music was blaring, I thought I was walking into a night club, it has never been like that.
I mentioned it to the hostesses and both just laughed.
Celebrating a Birthday. Which I have done many times here. Our chef David was very entertaining and humorous! We all had a great evening!!!
The chef was horrible. He talked so fast we couldn’t even understand him. For $300 I expected more....
