Benihana - Burlingame Ratings and Reviews
The last time we were at this location it was very elegant and low key. This was for my wife’s birthday and in the years since we’ve been there it’s become a chuckie cheese environment.
Way too many kids at every table making noise and unsettled. The place did not feel clean. Our Chef had the routine down but was not personable and just going through the motions.
Drink prices are exceptionally high and the food cost has gone up but not too badly. Extremely Dissapointed and will not be returning nor recommending. Spoke to a few friends who had been there in the last year or so and they had the same experience and feel the same way.
Despite having a reservation we had to wait almost 45 min for our table. Most days it wouldn't be a big deal but since we were celebrating a special occasion, we had our toddler in tow. She started losing it a little while we waited which had us all on edge. But Benihana is always fun. Once we sat down and our chef came and began prepping our meal, everyone's mood lightened. Ramon was sooooo great and super engaging with our daughter. Everyone enjoyed the meal and the experience, my parents were happy with the portions and we had a great family outing overall.
Had a great evening! Food was enjoyed by all, our server and chef was great, however the manager on duty was pushing /micro managing our server to try and get us to do my Mom's cake while we were still eating. We said no not yet and found it to be quite rude for the manager to be asking our server to rush us apparently to get us moving along so he can accommodate his next party I m guessing--- When we did the cake our server started to cut the cake and serve us (she was very nice and professional I might say) and then the micro manager came over and abruptly took over and started slicing the cake in a rush. He made everyone at the table so uneasy and embarrassed for our server who was doing a great job in making sure all evening that we were enjoying our evening. Chef, Server , Food was great, but definitely need a better Manager on the floor for the guests and more so for the employees.
The valet personnel are always courteous. An older lady at the front was not very friendly and seems to make us feel not very welcome. For some reason, no one at the counter was smiling. Seated shortly pass our reservation time. Service person was very friendly and was very helpful. Chef was quiet and quick. He was not very entertaining , he did a few tricks as we expected but didn’t get involve with his customer. Our food was good. I say our evening wasn’t too bad, since I do not expect much. We were fine, but it wasn’t a great time.
It was fun, but disappointing. From the moment I walked in I felt like I was in an assembly line with a greasy feel that could use a good scrubbing. We had umbrellas and raincoats - but there was no where to put them- even though we asked. We were seated at a teppanyaki table and placed our coats and umbrellas on the backs of our chairs. We're average sized people but in order for the chefs to get by with their carts, we had to stand up to let them get by. The evening ended with the assembly line of the mandatory parking valet.
I have been to Benihanas before. The food is a little pricy for what you get but I believe you're paying for the experience. The last two experiences I had at Benihana, the chefs have been less enthusiastic with little or emotion while cooking our dinner. The cooking was good, but a smile and some positive energy goes a long way. I'll still go back because the food is good.
Our waiter Andres seemed to be new. He was a little slow but made up for it with his friendly manner. We were a group of 7, kids and adults, 4 of which were Benihana first timers. Our reservation was for 7pm, we were seated about 7:15 ish and Andres wasn't done cooking until about 8:15pm. Waitress was friendly and accomodating even with a last minute menu change. Great place for groups/birthdays.
I am disappointed. The food was cooked average and inconsistent. The time I came on 9/2017 and the food was not taste enough and I needed to add soy sauce. The time I came on 12/2017 and overcooked the shrimp. This time I came on 1/2018 and I saw the chef just do the job and not with the heart. If we just come to eat the food, I don't have to come. So called he played the tricks or show, giving me the feeling is "I did and finished". Not excited and not with friendly smile. I would say it keeps going down the hill if not improve. So called Japanese restaurant, I would find other race cook or servers more and not like years before....
Our waiter was great -- very friendly, cheerful, helpful, genuine. I didn't get his name.
Our chef (Clint) was also very good, one of the better ones we've had there.
The food was excellent but I thought some of it was too expensive (esp. the fried rice and also the smoothies my son and his friend had).
The salad wasn't as good as I remembered it. Has the dressing changed?
The steak was very tasty. My son got the filet mignon and it was exceptional.
The salmon was also delicious, and of good size.
Love the Poloroid photo. I have quite a collection of them from over the years. Thanks for the ability to download and for free.
This place was horrible! I will never return or recommend anyone. I made reservations ans even then i had to wait 40 min to be seated. The service was horrible and to cook took so long our food was cold by the time it was all done and reasy to eat. Never again!
Let me start off by saying I have eaten may times at this location. But Friday night was a nightmare. Our reservation was for 9:45. Our cook did not come out until 10:40 roughly to start cooking. Prior to that as they seated us at the table I noticed how filthy and I mean filthy the floor, the table and the stove was. Before the cook started he cleaned the table but it still was not clean. I love Benihana but Friday night was a disaster. They really need to improve their cleaning and customer service. The hostess was definitely not happy to be there that evening.
Service was terrible, waited 20 minutes before anyone showed up after we were seated.
Then when the waiter showed took our order, we waited another 15 minutes before our chef showed up
he was ready to cook, but we still never received our soup or salad, so we waited for that
to be served. Food was just ok, overcooked steak, salty flavors in all dishes.
We went for lunch, and seeing the place in the daylight, shows a very dirty place
everything including the bar needs a deep cleaning.
Go to the one in Japan Town, much better food , service and clean décor
This is by far my worst dining experience with Benihana.
Our order taker asked us several times (me/wife) if we want chicken fried rice. We told him that we want regular white rice, When the cook arrived he told us that our order was for chicken fried rice. He told us several times and we told him several times that we want regular white rice. Our order was ready in our place and no rice was served. After 10 minutes more of waiting we called to attention our order taker to inquire as to where our white rice was. I figured he forgot about it so he hurriedly got and served us with rice. This is the kicker. My wife noticed a foreign object on her served rice. Some kind of a label or sticker. Even the cook saw the item and advised us to contact the manager. We did not as we were famished. My wife just asked for a replacement. The order taker just passed the bowl of rice in front of me nearly knocking off food going to my mouth.
That day 1/2/2018 Benihana Burlingame used a dining table as a station for food cooking, storage for styro foam, forks, and to go box and other stuff.
Right in front of me I saw a Benihana crew (female) pick a food using her fingers and put it in her mouth. If I am not mistaken she took it from a food being prepared for an ordered item.
Our reservation was 1/2/2018 at 12 p.m.
We had 7 pm reservations and not seated until 7:45 pm. Another party had 6:30 pm reservations and was seated a few minutes before us. The grill wasn’t cleaned before we were seated so the chef for our table cleaned the grill before he started. However, he was sloppy and cleaning particles ended up on my granddaughter’s plate and sauce dish. The grill was still not cleaned properly because you could see leftover grease around the edge of the grill was not wiped off. The food cart wasn’t properly loaded with what we ordered. Our food looked scorched while it was being prepared because the grill wasn’t cleaned properly.
My granddaughter used the restroom and she said it was dirty and had lipstick graffiti. The carpet around the restaurant was not clean and I understand it’s a very busy restaurant, but still not satisfactory to a good restaurant.
We love Benihana and have been going to this location to celebrate birthdays at least 2-3 times a year for the last 20-years. It’s gone downhill for at least 5-years. I’m afraid this is our last time at this location.
I decided to take my kid and sister to lunch for NYE, I love going to this place. It seems the prices have went up, last time I came with these two, it was less than $100, today it was considerably more. I'd still come back again, I like it a little bit more than the BH in The City.
