Benihana - Burlingame Ratings and Reviews
I have been to Benihanas before. The food is a little pricy for what you get but I believe you're paying for the experience. The last two experiences I had at Benihana, the chefs have been less enthusiastic with little or emotion while cooking our dinner. The cooking was good, but a smile and some positive energy goes a long way. I'll still go back because the food is good.
Our waiter Andres seemed to be new. He was a little slow but made up for it with his friendly manner. We were a group of 7, kids and adults, 4 of which were Benihana first timers. Our reservation was for 7pm, we were seated about 7:15 ish and Andres wasn't done cooking until about 8:15pm. Waitress was friendly and accomodating even with a last minute menu change. Great place for groups/birthdays.
I am disappointed. The food was cooked average and inconsistent. The time I came on 9/2017 and the food was not taste enough and I needed to add soy sauce. The time I came on 12/2017 and overcooked the shrimp. This time I came on 1/2018 and I saw the chef just do the job and not with the heart. If we just come to eat the food, I don't have to come. So called he played the tricks or show, giving me the feeling is "I did and finished". Not excited and not with friendly smile. I would say it keeps going down the hill if not improve. So called Japanese restaurant, I would find other race cook or servers more and not like years before....
Our waiter was great -- very friendly, cheerful, helpful, genuine. I didn't get his name.
Our chef (Clint) was also very good, one of the better ones we've had there.
The food was excellent but I thought some of it was too expensive (esp. the fried rice and also the smoothies my son and his friend had).
The salad wasn't as good as I remembered it. Has the dressing changed?
The steak was very tasty. My son got the filet mignon and it was exceptional.
The salmon was also delicious, and of good size.
Love the Poloroid photo. I have quite a collection of them from over the years. Thanks for the ability to download and for free.
This place was horrible! I will never return or recommend anyone. I made reservations ans even then i had to wait 40 min to be seated. The service was horrible and to cook took so long our food was cold by the time it was all done and reasy to eat. Never again!
Let me start off by saying I have eaten may times at this location. But Friday night was a nightmare. Our reservation was for 9:45. Our cook did not come out until 10:40 roughly to start cooking. Prior to that as they seated us at the table I noticed how filthy and I mean filthy the floor, the table and the stove was. Before the cook started he cleaned the table but it still was not clean. I love Benihana but Friday night was a disaster. They really need to improve their cleaning and customer service. The hostess was definitely not happy to be there that evening.
Service was terrible, waited 20 minutes before anyone showed up after we were seated.
Then when the waiter showed took our order, we waited another 15 minutes before our chef showed up
he was ready to cook, but we still never received our soup or salad, so we waited for that
to be served. Food was just ok, overcooked steak, salty flavors in all dishes.
We went for lunch, and seeing the place in the daylight, shows a very dirty place
everything including the bar needs a deep cleaning.
Go to the one in Japan Town, much better food , service and clean décor
This is by far my worst dining experience with Benihana.
Our order taker asked us several times (me/wife) if we want chicken fried rice. We told him that we want regular white rice, When the cook arrived he told us that our order was for chicken fried rice. He told us several times and we told him several times that we want regular white rice. Our order was ready in our place and no rice was served. After 10 minutes more of waiting we called to attention our order taker to inquire as to where our white rice was. I figured he forgot about it so he hurriedly got and served us with rice. This is the kicker. My wife noticed a foreign object on her served rice. Some kind of a label or sticker. Even the cook saw the item and advised us to contact the manager. We did not as we were famished. My wife just asked for a replacement. The order taker just passed the bowl of rice in front of me nearly knocking off food going to my mouth.
That day 1/2/2018 Benihana Burlingame used a dining table as a station for food cooking, storage for styro foam, forks, and to go box and other stuff.
Right in front of me I saw a Benihana crew (female) pick a food using her fingers and put it in her mouth. If I am not mistaken she took it from a food being prepared for an ordered item.
Our reservation was 1/2/2018 at 12 p.m.
We had 7 pm reservations and not seated until 7:45 pm. Another party had 6:30 pm reservations and was seated a few minutes before us. The grill wasn’t cleaned before we were seated so the chef for our table cleaned the grill before he started. However, he was sloppy and cleaning particles ended up on my granddaughter’s plate and sauce dish. The grill was still not cleaned properly because you could see leftover grease around the edge of the grill was not wiped off. The food cart wasn’t properly loaded with what we ordered. Our food looked scorched while it was being prepared because the grill wasn’t cleaned properly.
My granddaughter used the restroom and she said it was dirty and had lipstick graffiti. The carpet around the restaurant was not clean and I understand it’s a very busy restaurant, but still not satisfactory to a good restaurant.
We love Benihana and have been going to this location to celebrate birthdays at least 2-3 times a year for the last 20-years. It’s gone downhill for at least 5-years. I’m afraid this is our last time at this location.
I decided to take my kid and sister to lunch for NYE, I love going to this place. It seems the prices have went up, last time I came with these two, it was less than $100, today it was considerably more. I'd still come back again, I like it a little bit more than the BH in The City.
The reservation process was very difficult. I had a party of 15 and had to make two separate reservations. Then I tried to call over the phone which took hours to get through to speak with a Manager who was not customer friendly. I wanted to request to combine my reservations for an earlier time and not only would she not combine them but I was told that I needed to give a $250 deposit upfront prior to coming to the restaurant. I would not have mind placing a credit card on file to ensure that I show up, but I don't believe in paying for services up-front that I have not received. Also, the service was not good. We had two reservations at 9:15 (for 6) and 9:45 p.m. (for 8) and they were only going to seat us based on the later reservation to guarantee that we all sit together, which was only. Our entire party arrived early at 9 p.m. and checked in. We were not seated until almost 10 p.m. so we waited an hour before seated, even with reservations. Then it took them another 30 mins to take our order, an another 30 mins before the chef starting cooking our meal. We did not leave the restaurant until 12:30 a.m. after arriving at 9 p.m. The worst experience, ever!! It was my son's 14th birthday which he really wanted to dine there and we live an hour away. They did not take the birthday photo with our family for my son's birthday!
We eat here 6-7 times a month. We have gotten various chefs. But this night was the server. She did not know anything about her job. Took 10-15 mins for drinks (couldn't tell you different tea choices or lemonade choices). Took our appetizer order and we got the appetizer before the soup and salad. Never got refills and then the chef started cooking. I had to complain to the Manager because our server disappeared for at least 30-40 mins with no service, no refills, no soup, no salad. Finally the salad came during the fried rice being cooked. She never came back to pickup bowls the Manager did. It was embarrassing. The other couple at the table complained too about the service. We never got soup til shrimp and steak was cooked. My husband never got his plain white rice until everything was cooked. As soon as the chef finished cooking the server re-appeared and asked if anyone needed a box. Really? We just got food and now your rushing us out . she starts asking about dessert. We asked what kind of ice cream all she said was chocolate. twice..We went and complained once we got the bill for over $267.00 about service. They took off $30.00. This was the worst service we ever got. It used to be a good restaurant to take family, friends for celebrations . But not this time they didnt lite the candle just sang. We had to ask for a picture. Very disappointing .. Will not go back for along time.
Attendees of Benihana know it can be an "iffy" proposition. Long waits (even with reservations) loud talking, cramped around the grill, and high prices. That being said, you know what to expect and sometimes you are surprised by your experience. Our Friday night meal began on time. My wife and I brought along a friend who at 86 yrs. old, was having his first Benihana experience. They were short on help, so we had a fifteen minute wait at the table before our chef, Carlos, began cooking. He was personable and put on a great show. Our waiter, Christopher, was super and attentive to us. The food is always good and the wine list reasonably priced. Overall, we had a good time and our birthday friend was looking forward to returning for another meal with friends.
After checking in, we were given a buzzer and barely had to wait ten minutes prior to being seated. Sat with a nice family of six, also celebrating a birthday. Wait staff very polite & efficient. Very pleasant Chef, polite and talented Teppan cooker! All the food was cooked perfectly and we ate until we were stuffed! Had our photo taken and a candle added to my husband’s ice cream, along with the Happy Birthday song in two languages. They always make you feel special here!
I love going to Benihanas, however, this time that I went I checked in at 9:00 which was the time of my reservation but didn't get seated until 930-945.
We also waited super long for the chef to come out and on top of that we were super squished at our table, the table behind us had more than 8 people at the table which was super uncomfortable.
We couldn't even talk amongst each other because you literally could not hear one another, the whole restaurant was super loud.
