Benihana never disappoints, whether it's the food, the cook, the show or the ambiance, it's very enjoyable.
Service was horrible and food had no taste. Expected more from all the good things I heard about this place. Just horrible.
Great experience with friends and family. I always come here for my birthday.
AWESOME SERVICE! TABLE OF 6 AND OUR SERVER WAS SERGIO!
The servers and staff for the actual dining is really efficient and friendly. However I always find the hosts welcoming guests are quite unfriendly. They need to greet people with s warm and friendly smile as that is what to me is the beginning of a good experience.
Birthday was great!
Love this happy place, but they got my order wrong and did try to correct it.
Birthday celebration it was great
Had a great time. Our chef was Mauro who was very personable and obviously very skilled. He interacted with our kids which is always a pleasure. Went with friends and we love the big table atmosphere.
Celebrated my daughter's 25th birthday for Sunday lunch. Food was very good and the chef was entertaining. It was a very nice time - and on Sundays the parking is free!
This was my first time attending this restaurant. The service was terrible. Reservation was at 8pm. Me and my party was not sat until 9:10. The drinks and first round of food was not served until 9:37pm. The staff involved at my particular table seemed unconcerned and extremely slow except for the chef. I will be back to this location to try eating here again. I understand everyone has their off day. Hopefully the second trip will be much more pleasurable.
Our experience at the Bethesda location was nice. Our waiter was very attentive. The food was prepared wonderfully and our Red Flower punch bowl was delicious. But, I will say that the prices are a little steep for the portion sizes that are offered. At any other Hibachi restaurant, a person would receive much more food for the same price. The menus were also dingy, sticky, and wet. If this location works on their cleanliness and portion sizes , it would definitely be a 5 star restaurant.
This Benihana is in a large warehouse like open space with multiple hibachi tables. The steaks were good but not great. However everything was fine. The principal problem with this space is that you may have a lot of kids shouting and screaming and in general having a great time at nearby tables as we did. A little too loud for enjoyment of your meal but others, particularly younger people may find it great. Others may want to request seating in one of the private rooms. I have been to other Benihana’s and have not had the same experience so I think it is the nature of the set up in a cavernous room without adequate sound baffling.
The food was excellent, as always. The wait server was friendly and on top of things without being too intrusive. The chef was entertaining, as always. I never leave here hungry. And I'll be back!
On the positive side, we were seated immediately, and we did not have to wait for a full table before the chef started cooking. The chef was pleasant and consulted us on how we like our food cooked. He could catch a shrimp tail in his hat. The waiter was also pleasant and helpful -seeing to it that we had forks. The two dipping sauces were excellent as was the green tea.
Some recommendations for improvement follow. Add more salad dressing. We felt the steak was a little under cooked (which the chef did cook longer for us). We felt the seafood (lobster and scallops) were over cooked. Scallops should not show any black--don't let them set on the grill too long. We like our fried rice to have onions, zucchini, mushrooms, rice, egg, peas, possibly carrots, and pork with soy sauce. What we got was rice with 1 egg, garlic butter, a little bit of shredded chicken, and a small helping of scallions. The zucchini, onions, and mushrooms were cooked separately-well after the "fried rice"-so we finished the rice before we could combine them. The garlic butter tasted almost rancid. I think that needs to be made fresh each day and with less garlic. The chef was a little messy as good food, we paid for, ended up on the periphery of the grill and got scooped up and thrown out. We appreciated him making an igloo and setting it on fire, but we hated to see it wasted by being thrown out instead of cut, cooked, and served to us!!! The spoon that accompanied my chocolate ice cream had an old onion that adhered to the bottom from some previous meal. It took an effort to scrape off (gross)! You must make sure you serving pieces are CLEAN before using them. And you must make sure the table is wiped clean before people sit down. We noticed food crumbs at the table when we sat down.
Too loud, too many happy birthday songs, mediocre food, too pricey
Left 40 minutes after our reservation when we still weren’t seated.
The food was delicious and the service impeccable!!
Loved the food and the experience!!!!
It was 9yo daughter’s first time at a place like this and she enjoyed it.
Great food, great service great time
The food and food preparation at the table is consistently good, but the servers need to pay more attention to their tables. This is consistently a problem at this location. Long periods of time before you can find your server to get anything, including the check. The noise level is quite loud, so if you're expecting to hear anyone other than the person sitting next to you, good luck.
The chef was great and the food was outstanding. I would recommend everyone to come to Benihana in Bethesda.
Been a while since we visited this particular Benihana's. Wife's birthday and she received a generous coupon from the restaurant for signing up for the Chef's Table. Food was very good as usual. Service was good. Reservation thru open table(recommended). We were seated at our scheduled time. Our particular Chef was not as entertaining as others but was acceptable. This restaurant is in Bethesda, Md. and parking is sometimes an issue. There is a small public parking area right behind the restaurant . Meter pay 2 hours max until 10:pm at night. There is also a bank parking lot next door available only after bank hours. Restaurant could use a little TLC.
It was okay, I prefer Sakura better. I only went because I bought a gift card for my brother and I received 2-$10 promo cards and they were about to expire. If I didn't have the cards, I don't think I would have went. We went right after church, so we were able to order lunch prices. Our chef was good.
We went here to celebrate a friends birthday. The bar tenders were not very friendly and my Moscow Mule was disgusting! When dinner time came our cook didn't speak much English which made ensuring our orders were right a little tough. He fixed fried rice with chicken for the entire table when only one person ordered their rice with chicken. On top of all of that the food just wasn't that good. It wasn't terrible but was not anything you would run and tell your friends to try. Restaurant has definitely fallen off from where it used to be unfortunately.
Came here for my girlfriends birthday dinner.. it was her first time there and I hadn’t been there in years.. still one of the best restaurants in Bethesda.. don’t know why there aren’t more of these. Also if you’re looking at how much you’re going to spend. You’re looking at about an average $100-$150 for two people and that’s including tip
Food was not cooked well, fried rice was under cooked and not seasoned well, food was bland
Our host, server, and chef were very friendly. We had a small party (including a toddler and baby) for a birthday. Everyone had a good time and the staff was very helpful. They also kept things moving so we finished in just over an hour (great with kids!).
Main course was a little bland (steak) I think they need another sauce option.
Even with a birthday coupon.. I still feel like it wasn't worth the travel. Went during a non busy hour. Waitress pointed out that workers were still eating. They didn't have the drink that was on the menu. They didn't have sorbet. Ran my card 4x and told me it was declined. It was taken from my account I showed them (manager and waitress) that it has deducted they then said oh it's our machine we need to run it again at a another station. Overall I was dissatisfied. This place has gone down hill
The service is beyond poor. It should never take 3 hours to eat. Either this location is under staffed or poorly managed. We went for a date night and will not be back again.
I went to the restaurant for a birthday. Although we had reservations we still had to wait. The host was not very pleasant or the woman who wanted to take our orders. Used to have good service coming to the location.
TERRRIBLLEEEEEEEEEEE. Reservation was at 830... didn't get service until 1045. My children were super sleepy. They overbooked. Lots of people were there and ticked off that they had to wait over 2 hours for service.
This restaurant was beyond disgusting, the wait was 2.5 hours to get seated, the front hostess knew nothing about how to seat people ( sort of like if you complained about your wait time she sat you to get out of her face ) i saw a woman complaining to the Manager and he basically said you dont like it you can leave ) once sat we waited 1 hour for someone to even come over and get our drink selection. Every staff member was sweating from trying to get tables together so much that our chef's sweat was dripping on the grill, with our food ( disgusting ) i was appalled! The people i was waiting with had come sat and ate ( 2 families ) and was leaving as i was just getting sat to began my next journey!!!!!!! PLEASE IF POSSIBLE FIND ANOTHER HIBACHI STYLE RESTAURANT before considering this place............
***PS AND NOT TO MENTION I WAS CHARGED TWICE TWO DIFFERENT AMOUNTS STILL WAITING FOR MY MONEY TO COME BACK TO MY CARD AND THIS IS DAYS LATER!!!!!!
We were not seated for an hour after our original reservation which was frustrating. The hostess team only kept telling us they could not seat us. We were not alone in having a long wait for our table. Not clear what the problem was since no explanation was given.
I made reservations for four on a Saturday evening. When we got there I was told that my reservation couldn't be honored because there weren't any tables available. I had to wait an additional hour, which I did not. I left because I over heard the people in the back of me who said they had reservations at 5:15pm and at the time it was 7:00 pm. They were waiting almost 2 hours to be seated. I'll try somewhere different the next time. A waste of my time and a dissapointment to my children who really were looking forward to eating. Thanks Alot.
I had friends come in from out of town for a birthday. I thought that this would be a good idea as I have been to this location before and had never had a problem until this visit. Our reservation was at 6:30. We had plans for later in the evening. It was over an hour before we were able to be seated. Then it was an additional 15 minutes before we were greeted by our server. It took so long for the drinks to arrive that a party at the table left. They were a family and the child was getting fussy so they decided to leave. We were told that our chef's cart was knocked over and they had to restock it and that was the reason others who were seated after us were being served first. One of my out of town guest is expecting and having to sit that long to wait for the meal to begin was very uncomfortable for her. What I thought was going to be a fun evening out turn into a long evening of aggravation. And to add insult to injury, the food was very bland. As stated I have been to this location before and never have I had such an unacceptable experience. I feel like I owe my friend a do over for her birthday. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had at any Benihana.
Service was awful. Waited 45 minutes despite having a reservation. Took 30 minutes for server to get utensils. Requested plain white rice for my 7 year old. Took 3 requests and arrived after main meal. Appetizers arrived after dinner. Awful experience.
It was quite a show to see
This was such a bad experience that we won’t be back.
As others have reported, but I learned tonight, they don’t tell you that there is a $4 upcharge for fried rice. It’s not the $; it’s the deception. It is definitely not stated on the menu, and they don’t tell you verbally.
Most of the food was good but the salad dressing and sauces were watered down.
Also, the waitress screwed up the order really bad.
So, not horrible. I just don’t like the deception.
