Benihana - Bethesda
Had great service - our cook Mauro was amazing! Food was perfectly cooked, very attentive!
While Benihana is still good, it's not what it used to be.
I was unimpressed! It took almost an hour for a chef to come to our table to begin preparing the food. Our waitress came by twice and we had to flag her down. The chef was speaking so low and was so unentertaining. I was very disappointed.
We had a 7PM reservation, earliest available when we made it at 4:30 PM the same afternoon. Arrived at the restaurant at 7:00 PM sharp. Paid for 1:45 at parking meter. Were seated at 7:05. Waitress had 2 other tables she was working. Rarely saw her during our visit. Chef didn't arrive at our table until 8:00. Not sure if the chefs at this location were all new, but it was pretty clear - based on many visits to similar establishments over the years - that the chefs were incredibly slow. No show with any of these guys. Not that we minded, but I found that very unusual for a place like this. The most important reason we come here was the food - and it was delicious. The other components of a visit to a restaurant are important of course, but at the end of the day, it's about the food. We were very satisfied with that aspect of the visit.
My favorite resturant, I love the onion soup and salad, tender shrimp, juicy steak, sauces, best fried rice, and kind and funny server and cook. I enjoyed thier new drink specials. I go every year for my birthday and for a great meal!
I took my daughter and her friends to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. The restaurant was accommodating to my daughter who ordered no vegetables. The chef made the fried rice with no vegetables for her and added the vegetables in for the rest of the table. However, we never received our salad. And at the end of the meal, the waitress asked the two who ordered the kid’s meal for their ice cream order, she did not ask the rest of the party if they wanted dessert. I had to order it after the ice creams arrived at the table. My daughter liked that they sang happy birthday, but not sure about the dancing part. Overall, it was a good meal experience.
Cook and the waiter were great. Food over priced especially $4 for fried rice.
We loved our first experience at Benihana, can’t wait to go back! From the moment we walked in to the moment we were walking out, great experience. Loved the food and drinks that we had. Our cook Luis was awesome, friendly and cooked delicious food!
Benihana is such a nostalgia celebration place. But they are really dialing it in. Running 30 minutes over even for reservations. Only about half the chefs showed up. Ran out of hat menus. Our chef was clearly new — rice all over the place, cleaning the grill while food was still on it, no jokes.
They changed the recipe for the yum yum sauce it is like an orange colored Ranch dressing, so terribly gross! The hostess had to be our server they were completely under staffed. Not the usual Benihana experience I was expecting at all.
Good food. Steak lobster is awesome. Only bad thing is service is lacking. Dont knowing they dont have enough staff but it's slow and poor service
Consistently good food and entertainment
The food was great! I booked a reservation, and everything was smooth sail from entry until check out!
It was our first time here and we had a wonderful experience. Our server was so pleasant and made the experience better. Our chef was hilarious and the food was delicious!
As usual Benihana delivered. Perfect atmosphere, food and service....absolutely no complaints
My chef was Troy Dorsey, he was new. He was friendly, courteous and did an excellent job. My food was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of seasoning. I will be returning to Benihana's for my next special occasion and already told friends and family to go and request chef Troy Dorsey.
Waiting 45 minutes past our appointment time
We drove an hr to celebrate a bday. It was good not great. Last time we went (diff location) bday song was sung by the team with a photo taken by them, printed on the spot for us to take home. Our cook was shy n no eye contact start to finish. Food was great.
I was very excited to go to Bennihana for the first time ever! But I was very disappointed with the service once we were seated. My reservation was for 7 pm. We didn't see the chef the until 7:45 pm and my order of sushi never came. The food was tasty but a little over priced for the portions. Will I be back? NO! The waitress must have been new or something she ran my credit card in they're faulty machines and kept reading declined until a manager assisted her with using the machine properly. A horrible experience!
I had been to Benihana as a kid and frankly this time the show by the chef which is what you are paying for and looking forward to was disappointing I was expecting much more twirling of sharp knives etc.
Very disappointed. We got there on time for reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes. It was already late with my kids. Took at least 15 minutes for waiter to take order. Didnt clear dishes in time, etc. really poor service
We went for the second time for Benihana. We were very exciting to see the chef do all the tricks as usual. Then nothing happened. The cook was serving the other half of the table to meet their standards. We didn't enjoy the service. We were also not offered any discount at checkout, even though the chef was excusing himself before he left.
I think this will be our last time to Benihana.
The showmanship was top notch. The kids in our group were mesmerized.
Horrible food now! Benihana has changed drastically from the food to the service. They sauce that even accompanies the food has even changed. Will not be returning may not even be open much longer. Everyone that was seated was us was very disappointment.
My food was good and the cook was good. The only thing that I wasn't happy with is that everybody got sung happy birthday to them and got ice cream and I didn't. My daughter even said something to her about it and she ignored her. The Indian people at my table got recognized. I hope that my people never get her as a waitress. I was there on Tues around 7:15p. I meant to call on Wed to report it but forgot
It was okay, only good thing about it was $30 certificates for my husband birthday. You have to pay for parking even though the parking area was located same lot as restaurant. Food was very bland. We didn't like it at all!
Benihana has to be the one of the worst hibachi restaurants to eat. The service is horrible, the manger is rude and nonchalant on so many levels, and the food was horrible. In addition to that, the fact that my table was racially profiled is the most saddening part of this experience. My boyfriend asked for some sriracha sauce for his food and the manager squeezed less than a handful into a dish assuming he was not going to give the bottle back. Also, there is no reason why my table was fully seated, ordered first, and another table of a different race was seated and ordered well after my table and got their chef before us. Then we had to wait an extra 10 mins for our chef. I love going to hibachi restaurant and I’ve never experienced such horrible services.
I WAS DISAPPOINTED. WE CAME IN FOR OUR DAUGHTERS BIRTHDAY I SENT MY SPECIAL REQUEST FOR HER BIRTHDAY. NOTHING WAS DONE EVERY ONE WAS TOO BUSY OUR WAITRESS WAS NO WHERE TO BE FIND MOST OF THE TIME. SO WE JUST ATE AND LEFT.
Use to be a fancy place to celebrate occasions with family and friends. Now it is a run down place in need of a serious inside renovation. Sad to see this place falling apart.
It’s pretty noisy but we always have a good time at Benihana.
A note was written in Open Table and the server was told upon his first visit to our table, that we were celebrating a birthday but they still forgot. We didn’t mention it by the time they brought the check because we saw how they celebrated at another table. They no longer take photos :(
The servers and chefs were lovely but the hostess has to go. We overheard her complaining loudly about other tables and she didn’t want to seat the half of us that arrived early until we agreed that we’d order drinks. Not going back soon.
Why did I wait so long for this experience? I had often heard of the style of cooking offered at Benihana, the personalized upfront showmanship of hibachi cooking, complete with all the bells and whistles almost seemed too good to be true. I will first say that I do not understand the poor reviews associated with this location. Everyone is entitled their own opinion and experience I suppose.
As for my dining experience, it was wonderful. The food was freshly prepared, skillfully, quickly and yet the quality did not disappoint. We were seated within five minutes of arriving at a table and grill just for ourselves. The waitress was very useful, checking in us to make sure we were provided with service yet not overbearing at all. We both went with the five-course meal, choosing steak and an order of sushi rolls. The food was fresh and delicious. The chef provided quite the show and offered portions of the food within good time of us preparing the previous course. Will definitely return.
Moms 90th bday
The food was amazing and our server was very polite.
The chef was inexperienced. He had to leave the table 6 time while he was cooking to bring the ingredients that he forgot to bring at the first place. Because of that the food was unattended and smell and tasted like burnt food.
The reception staff doesn't seem warm or communicative. I wanted our picture that was taken and I was told that they could not retrieve the picture. I asked if there was any other way I could get the picture and her answer was sorry I don't know. not very helpful. as for the cook, he was good and entertaining. The only thing was that my chicken was a little on the tough side, maybe needed some more cook time
Cristian, our chef was quick and entertaining. We didn't have to wait a long time to eat.
The chef, Sergio, was amazing
This location of Benihana has been going down in quality for years. Our Tepanyaki Chef, "Luis", was terrible. There was no fanfare as you expect with Benihana. The only thing he did was make a heart out of rice and make the beat with a spatula. No onion volcano, no tossing of shrimp...NOTHING ELSE! They might as well cook in the kitchen and bring it out! I won't be going back.
