Benihana - Beaverton Ratings and Reviews
We always go to Benihana for family birthdays. That being said, this time was not very enjoyable. The waitress was trying her best but was obviously assigned too many tables to service. The cook, well let's just say #1 he was white, #2 he was angry #3 he obviously did not want to be there. I get it, some days are better than others, but if you cannot pull through and do a job that requires upbeat, fun customer interaction, then work elsewhere, or ask for a break. It is way too expensive to put your issues on the guests.
Great place and Chef was great. Really tasty food.
Had a couple issues though. Grill was not turned on so took extra time waiting to heat up. Gave us a all a little free Sushi while we waited. Was good service but forced everyone to run late.
2nd issue was they forgot to serve some rice.
All in all it was good food and service but a couple issues took away some points. At the prices of this restaurant everything must be perfect.
The chef i had was phenominal! He was great with my kids. I was extremely hesitant to take my kids, but i am soo happy i did!! Thank you chef for making my experience with my kids AMAZING! I dont remember his name but he was the best! I came in at 1230 sat in the far back on the right hand side my chef was african american. If please tell him he did amazing! He really made my experience with my family so wonderful!
We had the most awesome chef!!! We highly recommend asking for Mateo!! By far the best entertaining chef!!! He won the top chef in all of Benihana's restaurant. The manager shared that he was going to be on Ellen's show. He is a very humble guy and very down to earth. Best experience we have had there!!
We came here on Monday the 6th to celebrate a birthday and had a fantastic experience! Our servers as well as the chef, Jose were friendly and fun. We got the full package. We were invited back the following Saturday to celebrate my father's birthday (I was asked to make the reservations). We were told at check in that lunch pricing was no longer offered "starting today". We opted to remain with our original plan because the previous week it was well worth the price. This visit, the host was great, our server was great but our chef was awful! Not friendly, no interaction and there was no "show". We sat around looking at all of the other chefs entertaining their guests, Mateo lacked that ability...my children 7 and 10 even commeted once we got into the car that they "missed the show that we had last time, this time was boring, can we not come back?" Please encourage Mateo to shadow other chefs on the "show" portion of his job. The food was decent (my dad said that his shrimp was well overcooked) but we could have had a decent meal without a show somewhere else. The show piece is part of the pricing...but of you don't get the show, paying for a movie but only getting popcorn.
I love going to this place however was a bit disappointed when we arrived for the lunch menu and was told we would have to select from the dinner menu. Had I known I would have advised my party of 7 we would be spending +$30 a meal when I was looking forward to the lunch prices. We picked up everybody's tab as to not inconvenience anyone but maybe a heads up next time instead of telling us a minute prior to being sat.
The service was very good. Prompt, friendly & courteous. Never had to wait for a beverage refill, but the dining room was just way too loud. It was so loud that you couldn't even talk at a normal level sitting right next to someone. This might be ok for some, it just isn't what I am looking for for a relaxing evening out.
Also, the food was kind of blah. Not bad per se, and actually the onion soup was amazing and the sushi my family said was the best they have ever had since moving to PDX, but everything cooked on the flat top just lacked anything special. The rice was dry, the veggies were over-cooked. The chicken was rubbery. People in our group had scallops and loved them.
The excellent service just didn't make up for the lack of good food, the noise, and the cost. I have been eating at Benihana for years in different locations, and the food has always been pricey, but I am quite surprised that the restaurant was as busy as it was with the prices that high.
Obviously enough people go there to keep it busy, it just wasn't a place that I can see myself going back to. I don't mind paying the prices, but I want a better experience for it.
The Chef was amazing!!! The food was fantastic... The culinary talent was excellent...
We love coming to this restaurant, been coming for decades and will for many more...
Favorites: Onion volcano, the chicken, and all the tossing :)
Than you for the great experience.
Unfortunately we were seated in the back room of Benihana and service was terrible. We waited over 20 minutes to get our drinks. We asked for just water for our kids.. Still water took just as long. Chef was good but not the typical Benihana experience. It was my husbands 40th and we had brought a cake to celebrate. Server brought it out still in box and asked if we needed candles! All around it was a disappointing visit. The server said the whole restaurant was behind that night... so I am hoping our next visit will be better. I must say that it seems the table reserved is worse when booking on open table versus calling. When I call, we get the front room. When we book on open table it is always the back rooms. This could just be my experience but worth noting.
We enjoyed our experience at Benihana, but this place is definitely noisy and you have to wait a long time to get your drinks. Plus the moment chef was done with making all the food, they offer you to box up left overs (even if you barely touched the food and still working on it). But we still liked this place and will be back, hopefully we can get our drinks without reminding about it, or finish the food before getting asked if we want take it to go.
Understaffed, ridiculous wait for ICE WATER and additional beverages. Dinner was being cooked/served before our salads and appetizers arrived. We spent over $200 and had a miserable experience. Dinner was okay, but nothing can make up for the terrible service.
It was just okay. Our chef had no personality and ZERO "show." I am not even sure he talked to our table at all and he was VERY slow - seemed a bit nervous like it was his first day, which is okay, but maybe offer a dicount or something. Most people go to Benihana for the show as well as a meal. Benihana used to be a great experience - good food and entertainment; now its just average and not sure its woth the price.
Pro-awesome chef and great great
Con-wait staff was horrible...super slow and never checked up on the table. Ordered a second beer and it never came. The bill came and two beers was on it. Tried to have $6 beer taken off since I never received it and they said I would have to call corporate the next morning...giving me a huge hassle. Total bill for four people was $163 and they couldn't refund $6!!!
I can name a dozen other restaurants worth the $163 dinner. Never coming back or recommending this place to anyone.
Made a reservation for my girlfriend and I for her Birthday at 6:30pm. We got there early and we were seated on time with a nice family, also celebrating a Birthday. The food was pretty good and the Chef was entertaining. It was pricey for me, even after a $30 off Birthday coupon, but still a great deal and worth it to honor my gf on her special day. I’ll definitely go again sometime.
Always love the food here having been here many times I've gotten to know the staff quality people and workers.. Leroy is my guy good man works hard and does a fantastic job. I love and enjoy the food and the staff that I've come to know really make this experience great..
