Benihana - Beaverton Ratings and Reviews
This was the first time that my husband, my daughter and I were going to experience Benihana's. My son who was with this was excited for us to go because he had been to one previously. He was very upset by the poor performance of the chef. The chef appeared to burn himself lighting the flame onto the onion. My son's meat was overcooked and the food was just ok. The chef did not perform anywhere near the ones you see online, he was super quiet and slow. The chef was nice, but Very inexperienced. We were hoping for a better experience like the other people were having behind us and in front of us. The lady that took our order and served us was super nice. The ice cream was delicious.
My son was sick and and ask me if we can go to this restaurant for lunch I was like at least you want to eat something the restaurant was very clean customer service was top class the best part was the chef too good made my son laugh very very nice food very delicious soup was excellent
Food was amazing and Juan was amazing cook and entertaining chef! Our food was to die for! Our server was friendly; however, she forgot to bring water! Additionally, we pay ten dollars per cocktail more or less. If i get the same lychee martini every year for my birthday, at other locations, I get a lychee berry in my drink. The presentation of my drink at this location was below sub par. It was a glass of vodka with some juice—awesome but I’m also paying for presentation. Where was my berry? I should have sent it back, but i though the berry for some reason could be sitting at the bottom.
Although a long time fan of Benihana, this trip was very disappointing in that, although the food was fine, our food preparer lacked any enthusiasm and did very little of what Benihana is famous for. Instead of most of the food preparation tricks, he told stupid jokes like "knock, knock..." This was a birthday celebration, but did not get the Japanese birthday song or the offer to take our picture, which are always standard things at Benihana.
I have been to Benihana's many times over the past 15-18 years. The food is always good and the entertainment is a lot of fun. Out last visit was exceptional because of our Chef B-Rod. He puts his on touch on the food he cooks, it was so delicious, I had to tell him it was the best I had ever had at a Benihana's. The little touches like once the zucchini was done, which was cooked to perfection, he sprinkled sesame seeds on the top. Even my Grandson, who said he never east zucchini said after eating his, he would have to start eating zucchini as he didn't realize how good it was. B-Rod cooked our steak and it just melted in your mouth. The shrimp and chicken were so full of flavor, we at more than we usually do as we just couldn't stop eating. B-Rod is also so entertaining, we were on FB live since it was a birthday celebration and he was such a good sport. We couldn't have had a better Chef and will recommend him to friends and family.
This has always been our family ‘go-to’ celebratory eatery, and every time we enjoy dinner along with service. But on this particular night , our Anniversary dinner, we felt a lack luster in our overall service. Our chef Chris, was clean and interactive, and cooked our food to perfection I will add though. But to confirm our blah feeling of how dinner was going, we didn’t get our usual picture that time stamps our visit for each celebration that we share with friends and family. Very first and hopefully the last time we experience that, over the years we have a full collection of our memories we’ve made with our Benihana family. Maybe it’s for the better that we didn’t get a photo since the service was not the best? 🤨
We always go to Benihana for family birthdays. That being said, this time was not very enjoyable. The waitress was trying her best but was obviously assigned too many tables to service. The cook, well let's just say #1 he was white, #2 he was angry #3 he obviously did not want to be there. I get it, some days are better than others, but if you cannot pull through and do a job that requires upbeat, fun customer interaction, then work elsewhere, or ask for a break. It is way too expensive to put your issues on the guests.
Great place and Chef was great. Really tasty food.
Had a couple issues though. Grill was not turned on so took extra time waiting to heat up. Gave us a all a little free Sushi while we waited. Was good service but forced everyone to run late.
2nd issue was they forgot to serve some rice.
All in all it was good food and service but a couple issues took away some points. At the prices of this restaurant everything must be perfect.
The chef i had was phenominal! He was great with my kids. I was extremely hesitant to take my kids, but i am soo happy i did!! Thank you chef for making my experience with my kids AMAZING! I dont remember his name but he was the best! I came in at 1230 sat in the far back on the right hand side my chef was african american. If please tell him he did amazing! He really made my experience with my family so wonderful!
We had the most awesome chef!!! We highly recommend asking for Mateo!! By far the best entertaining chef!!! He won the top chef in all of Benihana's restaurant. The manager shared that he was going to be on Ellen's show. He is a very humble guy and very down to earth. Best experience we have had there!!
We came here on Monday the 6th to celebrate a birthday and had a fantastic experience! Our servers as well as the chef, Jose were friendly and fun. We got the full package. We were invited back the following Saturday to celebrate my father's birthday (I was asked to make the reservations). We were told at check in that lunch pricing was no longer offered "starting today". We opted to remain with our original plan because the previous week it was well worth the price. This visit, the host was great, our server was great but our chef was awful! Not friendly, no interaction and there was no "show". We sat around looking at all of the other chefs entertaining their guests, Mateo lacked that ability...my children 7 and 10 even commeted once we got into the car that they "missed the show that we had last time, this time was boring, can we not come back?" Please encourage Mateo to shadow other chefs on the "show" portion of his job. The food was decent (my dad said that his shrimp was well overcooked) but we could have had a decent meal without a show somewhere else. The show piece is part of the pricing...but of you don't get the show, paying for a movie but only getting popcorn.
I love going to this place however was a bit disappointed when we arrived for the lunch menu and was told we would have to select from the dinner menu. Had I known I would have advised my party of 7 we would be spending +$30 a meal when I was looking forward to the lunch prices. We picked up everybody's tab as to not inconvenience anyone but maybe a heads up next time instead of telling us a minute prior to being sat.
The service was very good. Prompt, friendly & courteous. Never had to wait for a beverage refill, but the dining room was just way too loud. It was so loud that you couldn't even talk at a normal level sitting right next to someone. This might be ok for some, it just isn't what I am looking for for a relaxing evening out.
Also, the food was kind of blah. Not bad per se, and actually the onion soup was amazing and the sushi my family said was the best they have ever had since moving to PDX, but everything cooked on the flat top just lacked anything special. The rice was dry, the veggies were over-cooked. The chicken was rubbery. People in our group had scallops and loved them.
The excellent service just didn't make up for the lack of good food, the noise, and the cost. I have been eating at Benihana for years in different locations, and the food has always been pricey, but I am quite surprised that the restaurant was as busy as it was with the prices that high.
Obviously enough people go there to keep it busy, it just wasn't a place that I can see myself going back to. I don't mind paying the prices, but I want a better experience for it.
The Chef was amazing!!! The food was fantastic... The culinary talent was excellent...
We love coming to this restaurant, been coming for decades and will for many more...
Favorites: Onion volcano, the chicken, and all the tossing :)
Than you for the great experience.
