Benihana - Atlanta - Downtown Ratings and Reviews
We use this location often but this time I was highly disappointed. We had a 4:30 reservation. We were not seated until 5:10 and did not have anyone begin to cook our food until 6:10. Highly unacceptable. My husband and I were taking our 4 year old to see Disney on Ice and wanted a nice dinner before hand. By the time we finally got to eat, we were so rushed that it was hardly enjoyable. More of eating as fast as possible to be at Phillips arena before 7:30. Will definitely rethink using this location again if I have somewhere I need to be afterwards.
Once I got there, I waited an additional 30 minutes which I really didn’t mind. Once we sat down, it took the chef almost 45 minutes just to come to the table. At that, there was no show or anything. I came to give my children an experience. I have no clue why there wasn’t a show. I mean, that’s the reason I chose a hibachi grill.
The food was good. My reservation was for 6:30, and I was seated promptly, but the chef didn't come to the table until 8. I was starving. The delay between when my fried rice was prepared and the rest of my meal was so long until I ate almost all my fried rice before the rest of my meal was ready. I think my chef was new. It didn't seem his heart was in entertaining. However, I was so hungry, it didn't really matter. But, when it's all said and done, I would go again.
Despite having a resetvation we waited 30 minutes to be seated and another 1 hour before the cooked came to table. We got there only a hour after opening and they werent that busy. The waiter barley checked on our table because it got busy and he was was running back and forth to other tables. We had questions about the menu which he didnt explain very well and we eneded up with upexpected charges. The staff was arguing back and forth and staff from the back was sittting down while we have yet to place a order. I probably wont visit this location again. Took forever to bring the check to the table.
I would say go to another location, however, I accidentally pushed the wrong address. When I arrived at the wrong Benihana (that is only 15 mins away) the host was kind of rude. However, at the correct location, I had to pay for parking since it was downtown. At the downtown location, the waiting area is small. I arrived close to my reservation time so luckily I did not have to stand too long. My dining experience was not the best. It seemed as if they were understaffed on this pictural day. Within the hour of sitting there, all we received were our soups and drinks. So much time had went pass our chef came over before our salad had arrived. The manager accommodated one of the there groups at the table. However, he should have had addressed the whole table. I will not be back.
Well, I always go to the Buckhead location, so I thought I would give this one a try. Mistake. We got lost so we decided to call the restaurant so that they could help, the woman who answered the phone claimed she wasn't from Atlanta and she couldn't help. I dont understand why she would answer the phone??? Our cook JoJo was awesome he was very kind and friendly and you could tell he loved his job!!
To start off the host on this night was rude and he didn't know have great customer service at all when i approached him to ask him about my reservation he stated WHAT did he tell me BEFORE which i FELT was rude and that was his job to tell me when i would be seated... My cook was boring and didn't interact with the people at my table at all he looked unhappy or upset to be at work.. This was my first time here and I'm not sure if ill return back..
Overall the food was good but the hostess was very rude.my reservation was set for 9:30p and they close at 10. 2 people in my party were running late and the hostess was very rude and was harassing us when our people were going to arrive. She looked annoyed and ready to go.
We had dined there on occasion thru the years. This place has really digressed. We arrived at 7:20pm for a 7:30 reservation and we were not seated until almost 8pm. The staff seemed very unorganized and lacked in training but very pleasant. Needless to say our Hibachi chef did not arrive to our table until after 9pm and he was surprised to find that his cooktop was not even warm enough to begin cooking. So this added an additional 10mins without food. The cook was very apologetic and did his best to make up for a bad situation. The manager did discount our meals without our asking as he knew the service was bad. This used to be a premier spot for Hibachi and it was sad to see what it had become.
Would not recommend this location.
We had a reservation and still had to wait over an hour for a chef to come out after being seated. Then all of our food was over cooked and disgusting. The chef was dropping food all over the table and still plating it. His attitude was bad as well. Our experience did not meet our expectations at all.
Food was burnt and over cooked. I asked for my tuna to be cooked rare and most of it was cooked all the way through. The portions were off and everyone was getting different portions of food (especially veggies). The chef didn't smile once the whole night and had a very sour attitude, barely said hello and goodbye. Part of hibachi is the tricks and experience or a live cook and the few tricks that the chef did try didn't go well. Which would've been fine but again, his attitude was just discouraged and frustrated. If he had smiled or joked or cared at all about our experience he could've at least made eye contact with us... Drinks took forever to get to the table, had to constantly ask for more water. Smoke was everywhere, ventilation was horrible. When the WHOLE TABLE complained to the waitress her excuse was that we should've come on a day when the head chef wasn't off and we should've requested a chef who wasn't new, like it was our fault. Only good thing was that she did give us a discount for our food, but it was a pretty terrible birthday dinner. Long story short don't come here on Thursdays or Sundays because apparently you should know what chefs are working when.
it took more than 30 minutes for our chef to come to our table. I asked to not add extra butter to my meal and he did not listen. He gave more attention to one person at our table than he did to the rest of us. He did not have very much personality. He did not seem happy to be there.
The customer service by far at this location has gone downhill over the last year. This location is in the heart of downtown Atlanta and they only had three chefs preparing lunch with all tables filled to capacity. After sitting at the table for 45 minutes I asked one of the managers how much longer and her response was it will take the chef an hour and half to prepare our food. That was not my question. I wanted to know how much longer would our table if 8 have to wait beyond the 45 minutes the chef eccentric came over. It took so long that 2 if the quest had to leave to return to work. You expect on a Friday at a restaurant in the heart of downtown that they would be prepared. How wrong were we. It took 2 and and half hours and just so you know the. Hey was done in 30 minutes!
The new managers are the worse!
Our server and chef however made the experience a pleasant one.
This location has turned into Buckhead!
My family and I have been coming to this location for years but won't be returning. Reservation was at 5:30 and we were seated maybe 15 minutes early. The issue was we were seated with four other people that included a toddler. I have no issue with that, but my mom and brother had no room to move at all. I discretely asked the hostess if we could be moved and she made a big issue out of it. She made it seem as if the five of us wanted our own table which wasn't the issue, just not at that table. The restaurant wasn't full so I don't understand what the issue was. We were eventually moved but she and the manager just ruined my night. What happened to the previous manager? This location seems to have gone downhill.....Buckhead or Alpharetta will be my location of choice moving forward.
This used to be one of my favorite places to go 4 special occasions . This location has taken a turn for the worst. The quality of staff and the appearance of the restaurant itself seems to have gone down over the years. The restrooms did not have hot water, nor were they adequately stocked with toilet paper or soap. The service was slow and our server missed several opportunities to provide excellent service because they appeared to be understaffed. I went there to celebrate my birthday, but I won't be back.
Service was absolute horrible!! Took 3 hours from beginning to end and no one seemed to care. Manager offered free appetizers but never took them off our bill so we ended up paying for those too. Seems this is the norm as we discovered on their Facebook page. Can’t believe corporate allows this type of service.
The patrons were extremely loud and rowdy. They were dancing and carrying on in the dining area. We had reservations for 7:30pm we were not seated until 8:00. After sitting there for an hour and our chef hadnt come out i asked the waitress how long the wait would be because we had a flight to catch. She was very sweet and honest. Told us they were low on staff and there was another table ahead of us waiting for a chef. She had no ETA on when the chef would arrive and told us we wouldnt make our 10pm boarding time if we stayed. We asked about carryout and she said even that would take over an hour. She offered us free fried rice for the inconvenience however it was not comparable to the money spent. We were only in town for a 3 hour lay over. We caught $30 each on ubers there and back and all we received was two SMALL carryout containers of fried rice. While we were there we observed them turning patrons away saying they were booked for the evening when in all actuality only 4 tables were filled they just had no cooks. We will not be going back or recommending to others. Not only did we not get food and we wasted money we had to catch a flight hungry!
The service was horrible... We went on New Year's day so they made us order from a "holiday menu"... For the price of the food and the amount you receive, it's definitely NOT worth it... the service was horrible... Your server has to bring you your rice if you don't pay an EXTRA $3.50 to have them to cook it on the grill... my meats and vegetables came out before my server brought my starchy rice out... with reservations we waited 45mins for a table and the restaurant had very few people in it. Not sure what the hype is about but I will not be returning...
AWFUL experience. The only reason I gave it 1 star is because it wouldn’t allow me to leave it blank- which is what it deserves. We had a 7 pm reservation and weren’t even seated until about 8:10pm. At first we were told it would “only be a few mins”, which later turned in to “we will have a table ready in maybe 20 mins” to “hopefully it will be soon”. Once we were finally seated, shortly after 8 pm, we were told that they were unsure when our chef would be able to come and start cooking at our table. It was clear that they were understaffed- on a weekend when the entire city was packed with people in town for New Years and/or the Peach Bowl???? We chose to leave - having lost all confidence that they would be able to provide any type of reasonable service- and found a restaurant around the corner that was able to seat us immediately - despite not having a reservation- with excellent food and service. I would NEVER recommend Benihana to ANYONE. Additionally, the overall appearance was dated and in need of an overhaul. Utter disappointment.
