Benihana - Alpharetta Ratings and Reviews
While the food was very good and the cost reasonable, I was disappointed in the handling of this group reservation. I made a reservation for 20 people, and followed up by phone. On the phone, with two different employees, we agreed that this group would be in a set-aside area with a divider, and the reservation would be from 11:30 to 2:30.
When we arrived at 11:30, there was confusion because they thought we were arriving at noon. We were seated at a pair of tables that would fit 16 (and it was tight quarters for 16), and were not in any kind of a set-off area with a divider. This was disappointing because we planned to run a white-elephant gift exchange after lunch, and I'm sure we were disruptive for the other groups. I was lucky that I had a couple of no-shows, because if we'd had 20, we would not have had space. I was told that there was another group that had reserved the set-aside space that we were promised, but while we were there, we never saw a group go into that room. Just poor organization and execution for a large group.
From start to finish, we had excellent service and food. There aren't many restaurants where a meal feels like an event anymore. From the gracious manager to our kind waitresses and our knowledgeable chef (who had a sweetly mischievous streak), the evening was a great success. We had children and were seated with a family whose child was celebrating a birthday. Everyone acted well according to their role, patrons and employees. We have been here before for special occasions and the Alpharetta location will continue to be our first choice.
All around disappointing. Went to celebrate a birthday- it was noted that way on the reservation. The server and chef both asked if we were there to celebrate something when we first got there. We told them a birthday and mentioned whose birthday it was. The birthday wasn't acknowledged the rest of the night. The chef was not very good or entertaining. Our order was messed up. I would never go back. Benihana is supposed to be "the bet" for Hibachi...almost the "fine dining" of Hibachi, and it fell way short. The inside is old and rundown looking, as well- not very "nice" as you would expect.
Tiana, first African American, female chef was AWESOME! She prepared my salmon perfectly! Everything was seasoned just right!!! I will request that she be my chef going forward.
As far as the server, not sure of her name, but she seemed as though she had an attitude; was not attentive to our needs and did not bring the extra sauces we requested.
Bring back the original employees of Benihana!!!!!!
My family has a tradition to celebrate birthdays at hibachi. The hibachi restaurant that we typically visit hasn't made our recent experiences exciting. As such, I suggested to my daughter who was turning 11 that we try another hibachi restaurant to see if our experience is different, which is when I booked Benihana - Alpharetta. On my Open Table reservation I requested a "very active chef" given we wanted a better experience.
When I arrived I was not greeted by a host/hostess so I found my way to the bar. I sat for 5 minutes to finally be greeted by a young man who approached me on the customer side of the bar. He asked if I wanted a drink so I ordered one through him and waited for the rest of my party. While waiting I asked a younger lady if she was the hostess and she said yes. I told her that it was my daughters birthday and we wanted their best chef who is very active. She told me I should suggest a specific chef at which time I reminder her she was the hostess and could determine which table to seat us and which chef we would have. As I was waiting I continued to observe that they were significantly understaffed - everywhere - there was no bartender, they had limited chef's, the manager began tending bar, one began seating people, etc.
After we were seated we ordered drinks, but were not offered water until we asked for it (we ended up getting 3 out of 4 glasses). We ordered dinner and our chef began cooking. He did a few smaller "tricks" and then it was business as usual - cooking, which disappointed my daughter. As we were eating we noticed waitresses (and others) celebrating birthdays by singing happy birthday to their guests. I was thinking this was perfect as they will come sing to my daughter. That didn't happen even though we told them several times it was her birthday, she was wearing a birthday hat, etc.
Needless to say - disappointing and we'll be going back to the other restaurant as our experience was much worse at Benihana's.
This location seems to always be understaffed. It's understandable that some days a couple people may call out and leave the restaurant short-handed, but that's not the case here. They are constantly short-handed. I dine here frequently and it is almost never a good experience in terms of service. However, the food is always great!
The service was horrible it was 1 waiter to 3 tables the worst experience ever I will not return nor do I recommend this restaurant. Please keep in my mind I visited on a Wednesday afternoon with a reservation and still waited 35min before being seated and an additional 45 min to eat!
The chef was great. Very entertaining and fun. Our grandkids really liked him.
Food was pretty good.
Our server was rushing us through the whole thing, though. Right after we got our food she asked if we wanted to go boxes.
Ten minutes later she asked if the kids wanted dessert. It was very uncomfortable.
My husband and I were in the area and stopped for lunch. The host recommended the express lunch and stated that it would talk half the time that hibachi would. Boy was he wrong. The service seemed much longer. It took quite a while. When our food finally came it was cold. My rice was hard and the veggies were lifeless. Our waiter, Steven was overwhelme, but very courteous. Solo disappointed.
The tables at this location are much too small for the number of people that's being seated. We were seated elbow to elbow.....very uncomfortable since you're dining with strangers. Every time I moved or they moved, we were constantly saying, "oh, excuse me...oh I'm sorry...Oh no problem...it's very tight seating"....". That's why I think it's better if you're with a group that you ALL know each other, then on a date. When the chef started cooking our meals, there was not enough room for all the dishes. The sauce bowls were on top of each other(some declined the sauce because there was no room to put it),and once we added in our dinner plates it was really congested . Too tight and uncomfortable! The girl that waited on us was not very friendly either, no smile, very abrupt, & asked questions as if you were "up to something"! The chef did a good job & the food was good.
We had to wait 15-20 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation. They were very understaffed when we visited. There were only two servers on the floor and the one we had was very slow. We waited a long time for our sushi roll and had to remind her. Then it took quite a while to get refills. We also had to wait a long time to pay once the meal was over. The manager was on the floor but was barely helping his staff.
Extremely horrible experience.. The host wouldn't seat my party of 3 that I made a reservation for because the third guests was running late..
The waitress was clueless.. not attentive at all.
The cook over cooked the food.. Calamari over cooked, steak over cooked..
It took a total of 2 hours to complete that table and this was during lunch..
Lunch duet is $14.80. Waitress brings bill for $17.80. When asked why it wasn't $14.80, the waitress said she assumed I wanted the premium steak and that's what she placed the order for.. manager comes out and takes $2 off, which still isn't the correct price.. Total disaster!
Always fun but it was a Bday special, it was supposed to include Sherbet etc. there was another Bday person at our table too. Neither got but we didn't bother asking to get it because we knew the service would be so slow to get around to it and we were there on a work night. There must be a staffing problem. Looked as if and the service was as if you were way under staffed? Our food and drink orders appeared to be taken by the manager not wait staff and we had to sit and wait until a cook chef at our table could get there. We noticed the table across from waited even much longer. Additional wait to get our bill to leave. I'm assuming the short staff was because we were there on a Monday night. If this had been a full house weekend it would have been unmanageable I'm sure. Otherwise, the experience was fun and the food was good as always. Thank you.
We were treated to a splendid time for three children and five adults celebrating my two year old grandson's birthday. We were lucky to have a chef with an engaging personality and a server who made sure we had everything we wanted. Highly recommended for Sunday lunch.
My husband and I ordered the jumbo shrimp along with their chicken fried rice. Delicious, will return and order it again. Our chef was outstanding , cooking everything just the way we liked it. We also enjoyed having a conversation with him. Asking how long he has been a chef, you could tell he loved his job. The waitress was very sweet too. The management stopped by our table, making sure we were enjoying everything. He was from Chicago so he made us feel at home. It was my birthday and they made me feel special. Go to Benihana you won’t be disappointed.
