Our menu is based on simplicity. It tastes as it should and would in Italy.

Bencotto Italian Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
This is the second time I took a group of people here without notice and as before it was outstanding! Food is fresh and delicious, the people are happy to serve you! Highly recommend the eggplant and their tagliatelle with lamb sauce! Bread is great, good portions. For my Italian family this is like home fooling! @pixiepaulaofficial #wherespixie
They had flipped the menu for Valentine's Day. I was visiting out of town and hoping they had the usual menu which I was more excited and turned out that they doubled everything just for the holiday. Im sure it would've great a regular night but the food wasn't the best that day.
What I liked...
- Great location in heart of Little Italy
- Great menu choices
- Food was outstanding!
- Service was outstanding! Our server was fantastic and very attentive to our table the entire time we were there...management also stopped by to check on us multiple times. Everyone we interacted with had a great sense of humor, which made our visit even more fun.
What I didn't like...
Bencotto is a home run if you like Italian food. I'd suggest making a reservation...this place filled up fast when we were there.
I live out of town, but my last 3 visits to San Diego I have made sure to fit in dinner at Bencotto Kitchen. The handmade pasta is unreal! The squid ink fettuccini noodles have remarkable flavor, but this time I enjoyed the pumpkin ravioli (can’t remember the menu name) but it was a delicious blend of sweet, spicy and savory flavors. The bread served here is so delicious I consider it dessert! Second only to the food, is a courteous and knowledgeable wait staff who give excellent wine pairing recommendations. Can’t say enough about how much I love Bencotto!
The food was delicious -- Black squid ink fettucine with shrimp and the best osso buco I've had (both off the list of specials). Our server was pleasant and appropriately attentive and also made good food and wine suggestions. We chose to eat outside, where it was pleasant, because it was quite noisy inside. The Little Italy neighborhood was fun to explore, too. We'll definitely recommend Bencotto to anyone who's going to be in San Diego.
There was honestly nothing spectacular about the pasta. It tastes just like any other "authentic" Italian restaurant. My lasagna was barely warm and the calamari was soggy. Over-rated and not worth the inflated "Little Italy" price. The food server kept serving the wrong dish to everyone in our party. The actual server should let him know who ordered what. Expect better service for this type of restaurant. Probably won't come here again.
The food was good, not great. The gluten free gnocchi with pesto was a good dish. The squid ink pasta was not good. There have been so many excellent reviews that I wonder if this restaurant is like many others that expand and spread their head chef to thin. The restaurant becomes more about the concept than the execution. Just guessing.
I believe that Bencotto is one the of best italian restaurants in San Diego and I always have a positive experience, however, the hostess who greeted us did not make us feel welcome when she saw our stroller. She stated "can you leave it outside because it will get very busy". We had a sleeping child in the stroller. She placed us in a corner table that hid the stroller. She did not attempt to help us with the stroller at all. We had to lift it up the stairs. There was the elevator lift front and center, she did not offer that to us. It would have been a great overall experience if she had been more accommodating. All of the servers thereafter were warm and accommodating and the food as always... amazing!
This was my second visit to Bencotto and it was on the occasion of my birthday, which coincided with Restaurant Week in San Diego. Bencotto's special RWSD prix fixe menu was absolutely perfect. To start, my friend and I ordered the calamari fritti (lightly breaded and fried calamari and tentacles, with lemon garlic aioli, and tortino agli asparagi (asparagus and ricotta salata soufflé, with creamy parmesan sauce. Both were excellent. Although I rarely eat pasta, I could not resist and very much enjoyed the pesto fettucine with grape tomatoes and shrimp. My dining companion ordered the fettucine with lamb sauce. Both portions were generous and delicious. I took home the leftovers and enjoyed them the next day.
Irrespective of the food and service, both of which were outstanding , I just love Bencotto's location, décor, and atmosphere. It has a "big city" feel that makes even an ordinary dining experience seem like a special occasion. The bar was inviting and there's an upstairs dining area that seemed lively and "exclusive."
I give an A+ to Bencotto for its performance on my most recent visit. I'd enjoy returning to dine there anytime and will certainly encourage my friends to do so.
To top it all off...I found a parking place directly in front of the restaurant! I can't promise that will happen to everyone who dines at Bencotto, of course, but I think Bencotto's food and service are pretty sure bets.
The food was good, but the service was terrible. The dessert took at least 30 minutes to arrive at our table and we had 3 different people waiting on us throughout the course of the night, which was very confusing. Our actual server was awkward and hardly came to our table at all.
With all the Italian restaurants in Little Italy, this is a gem. Hostesses, wait staff and food runners were all knowledgeable, affable and professional. One food runner said "Really?" When I wanted more parmigiana on my paparadelle but that is to be expected!!! Justin Timberlake doppelgänger was our waiter and his recommendations were top notch.
I don't usually write reviews but I fell in love with the food here and I just have to! The food at Bencotto was the best Italian food I have ever had! We tried the cheese of the day (truffle cheese, wow!), stuffed zucchini blooms (outstanding!), the lasagna and choose your own pasta with the cheese sauce which were both mind blowing. Everything, including the complimentary bread was crazy delicious! If you are thinking of going, stop thinking and just go. You won't regret it!
Great restaurant. Great food. Great service. My nine year old granddaughter said, “grandma this is spot on. “Most restaurants can’t seem to cook homemade fresh pasta without it turning to mush. This restaurant got it right for all four dishes!
Our server was super nice and very knowledgeable but it seemed like either they were understaffed or the kitchen was backed up. It took quite a bit of time for the server to get to our table and to get our food. A little noisy downstairs but it wasn’t out of control. Food was great and I would come back!
We had a wonderful time at the restaurant last night. There is nothing like fresh pasta, it was amazing. Service was great, anything or waiter did not know he found out for us quickly, the food came out quite quickly and at a good pace from the appetizers to the main to the desserts. Overall a very good experience.
