Bencotto Italian Kitchen
Bencotto offers 100% honest Northern Italian cuisine.
We are proud to offer 15 kinds of different hand-made pasta, fresh and hand-crafted 12 hours a day.
"Bencotto" means cooked well: this is what authentic Italian food is about.
Our menu is based on simplicity. It tastes as it should and would in Italy.
Bencotto offers two different eating environments: guests can either enjoy their meal at our “kitchen-esque” bar downstairs, or they can relax in the intimate low-ceiling dining area upstairs. The décor creates a clean and sophisticated atmosphere, where old-world charm and warmth blend with contemporary appeal.
Absolutely delicious! Great service and exactly what I wanted. Thank you!
What a wonderful place! My husband and I are new to San Diego and looked forward to a good Italian meal in Little Italy. The food was delicious! We had great service and a nice table by the window. I will happily recommend this place to all who enjoy good food! I look forward to many more meals at Bencotto Italian Kitchen--Brovo!
Bencotto has been my go restaurant for its entire 10 years of existence. Authentic Italian food with very friendly staff. The best Italian restaurant in San Diego.
We hadn't been in a while and again the experience was great. Food and wine lovely!
Good wine, good food, good conversation and a quiet restaurant.
Lasagna was very sweet and bitter
Crazy good food. Was blown away by the value offered by this restaurant!
With a reservation it took 30 minutes to be seated. The hostesses kept giving us assurances that the table was being set then changed the table. 3 of 4 dinners were delicious. My dinner, pasta with salmon was not good. The salmon was overcooked and dry and the pasta which was described as spicy, was bland. Appetizer was delicious as were the bread and salads and wine.
Best italian food I’ve had in San Diego. Hit the spot. Great bottle of wine, great service. Both entrees would order again.
Top notch as always
The black ink pasta is insanely good! Service was top notch. Will be back!
It was a wonderful dinner and the staff was very responsive to our guests special dietary needs. The food was great but the upstairs did get a bit noisy. I would highly recommend it.
lovely homemade pasta and food
I can only speak about my experience on Sunday for lunch. This restaurant was recommended by my 2 friends who eaten here for dinner. They had a great experience with the cheese wheel. Cheese wheel is only available in dinner. So, for lunch, my husband and I ordered 2 appetizers and each of us had an entree. All four items were so average. The best thing we ate there was the free bread service. We’ve been to so many Italian restaurants so we know what good Italian restaurant is and non of the food we ate was good.
Food was delicious (tortellini), definitely worth the wait.
Excellent service. Very loud. A bit overpriced for two pasta dishes without any meat.
My reservation was for outside, but the hostess gave us an available inside table, so that was appreciated. My beef ragu ravioli/gnocchi wasn’t bad, but I’d get the squid ink fettuccine next time.
Server was great! It was very busy but we really enjoyed everything!
We are not vegetarians. We shared 5 entrees and the pumpkin filled bacon topped ravioli surprised us at how delicious it was! Definitely a favorite! The zucchini blossoms filled with cheese are special and the cheese appetizer with honey, walnuts and figs is always great.
Food always brings me back to eating in Italy!
I made open table reservation and it was a Birthday dinner.
I wasn’t happy we were seated in a small3 table auxiliary room.
The food was very good. I was surprised the waiter didn’t greet us acknowledging a Birthday !
The food and service were good, but it was super loud. Noise level was overwhelming and I wouldn’t recommend for dates or if you plan on talking to each other...
The food was good although based on the reviews I was expecting phenomenal so I was a little disappointed. The dishes were served too hot. I ended up w a blister on my lip because the filling inside of my tortellini was too hot. The other guest had to wait a while to eat his food because it was also too hot to eat at first. The restaurant was extremely busy (good for them) but that meant it was very loud. The tables were very close together so you were almost a part of the next tables conversation. Also, the wait staff had to squeeze sideways to bet between tables and they were very attentive so every 5 minutes or so I had someone’s bottom in my face.
I’m guessing if I came on a night or afternoon that was less busy I would give the restaurant 4 or 5 stars but between the burnt lip, very loud restaurant and butts in my face, we were anxious to leave and skipped the second glass of wine and dessert we had been planning to enjoy.
Went for my wife’s birthday, food and service were great.
Best Italian food we had all weekend. Dope restaurant.
Everything was fantastic, even got to meet Valentina! 5/5!
Great food but it was too busy at times and the server took a long time to take our order and serve our food. It took about 40 minutes for food to come out. However, it’s a great date spot and has nice food.
Calamari always excellent... entrees hit or miss!
Good food, but more expensive than their sister restaraunt next door, and seems to be exceptionally similar. Went on a busy night, but nearly the entire staff seemed uninterested in formalities that you would expect at such a pricy establishment (really, the bus-boy was the only person who was friendly and engaging). The upstairs area somehow feels like an unfinished basement. The presentation of the food was lackluster and generally looked slopped on the plate. Since they don't use trays, I saw multiple people carrying several plates at a time, with a few appearing to almost certainly have a finger in the food they were carrying. When you pay $130 for two people, you expect a better experience than what you would get at Olive Garden. The flavor of the food and the tasty cocktails were the only redeeming qualities I saw in this place. Won't be gong back, unfortunately... And I was really looking forward to this place, too.
Usually love this place. Went for Valentine's day - they had a "Special" menu; limited selections (with none of our favorites) and jacked up prices. No notice of that when I made the reservation - disappointing. Would not go back on "special event" days.
Love this place. Girlfriend always gets the lamb shank because it's so delicious. I try different dishes and they're always delicious as well. Only area for improvement is wine selection, but we still find a bottle to go with our dinner. Highly recommend this place for personal or work related dinners.
Bread was too hard. Caesar salad was below average. Wine is overpriced. Pasta was outstanding and the portions were ample. Food came out hot and was perfectly cooked. Difficult parking and moderately expensive for a night out.
Lovely birthday dinner
Waitstaff was attentive and warm. Best lasagna ever.
Delicious food, good service, food came out fast.
We were referred to Bencotto by a friend and are so (!) happy we found this little gem! Our server was fantastic (I'm sorry I didn't get his name, he said he had recently moved here & become a citizen), the atmosphere was dimly lit and romantic (seat by the window was nice!) and the food. Oh. MY! We tend to walk into restaurants starved & order too much but our server was kind in advising us the Parm Cheese sampler and 2 plates of lasagna would be MORE than enough (he was so right!) Lovely bottle of wine to accompany everything. Cheeses were devine (esp on the fresh yummy bread!) and the meals were excellent! Husband had the bolonese and I had the bechamel truffle lasagnas. YUM. HUGE portions of fresh pasta with delicious sauces. Very highly recommend this spot.
Delicious food, amazing appetizers. Great wine. Great service. Would definitely come back.
Excellent food and service in a smart setting. Advice on food and wine was spot on, would definitely make the trek again from north county!
Very good food; service was excellent. Noisy and parking, as one should expect in Little Italy, difficult.
