Our menu is based on simplicity. It tastes as it should and would in Italy.

Bencotto Italian Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
The experience did not live up to all the reviews. The calamari umido was what I suspect to be frozen calamari and the broth was bland. The bottle of wine we ordered was emptied into our glasses to the top as if we were at a frat house chug fest. The Pasta entree lived up to the hype but the sauce again was soul-less and devoid of flavor.
Overall don’t think we would come back. Definitely a tourist trap area. Beware!!
Generally speaking, excellent venue. Nice modern setting and decor, generally very good service and excellent authentic Italian food done very well. Their pastas are all handmade, with a number of traditional sauces that are brilliant. I can especially recommend the salsiccia. The osso bucco is also very nice.
Great food but be prepared to take some home. There are no half portions of pasta and if you are like me, you’ll want to have a salad and maybe a side, so there will be too much food. I think they should have smaller portions (for less money) or the option of a half order. The lasagna portion is HUGE. Waiter was extremely pleasant and accommodating.
I chose Bencotto after a review of top restaurants in Little Italy for our last meal in San Diego. We liked the modern take on an Italian restaurant and the accessible yet inventive menu. Both of us chose their "mix and match" pasta and sauce option and were quite pleased. The pork-stuffed fried olives were a unique and tasty starter and complimented the fresh salad. And while the prices weren't cheap, they weren't outrageous either. Probably what you'd expect to pay for a nice dinner out. Service was generally attentive, but a bit hurried. The space, while sleek and modern, it was also incredibly loud. As a couple, we got placed at a small two-top in the middle of a boisterous and busy space--not ideal for a "date night". It felt like being at the crossroads of a culinary city--lots of people and plates buzzing by. I'd definitely go back. There are several additional dishes I'd like to try. Staff were friendly and well informed. But I'd ask to sit outside or somewhere out of the traffic flow and away from the noise (if that's possible).
Benecotto was recommended by my daughter, who manages Barrio Star on Fifth Avenue. It proved to be a good spot to catch up with old friends and be able to have a conversation while enjoying good Italian cuisine. The service was polite, friendly and attentive. One of our group was a native of Naples and she gave a good review for the quality and authenticity of the cuisine.
Great food; had the regional cheese platter, prosciutto, Bencotto Gnocchi and Pumpkin Ravoli with browned butter sauce. The Gnocchi was excellent, possibly the best Ive ever had (and Gnocchi is something I hunt down at restaurants). The Pumpkin Ravoli was fresh, al dente and a great combo of sweet and savory. Prosciutto is carved on the spot and the regional cheese platter had great variety, fresh fig jelly, candied fruit and onions soaked in balsamic vinegar.
food was great. We sat outside and they had nice heat lamps to keep us warm. Atmosphere is very urban, modern, trendy feel. While there a lot of recent newer hip restaurants in the area, this one still holds its own years later and is a great date night spot
I appreciate the handmade pasta. It's the only reason to go here really. The plating for the burrata was boring and uninspired. All we ate was the cheese and just left the garnish untouched. The tortelli di zucca should have a different sauce. A simple browned butter would be better than the heavy, overpowering cream sauce it is served with.
This was a great experience. I was in San Diego for a conference and just wanted to get away. The space was cozy and very comfortable and the wait staff was amazing. The busser introduced himself to me. I eat out nearly every meal and that has not EVER happened to me before. The featured cheese was great, the salad wonderful and the lamb pasta was great. I have never had smoother pistachio ice cream. It was a nice escape. BTW, the busser's name was Cedric.
Second time at this restaurant. I chose it for its close proximity to the Car Show event. I requested a window and I received it although right in front of the entrance door. Again, bad seat location. The food and drink selection is good, but everything else seems to lack. I will inquire next time if they have take-away and not be subjected to the noise and poor seating.
We went to Bencotto for a birthday. The food is incredible and the ambience is perfect for socializing without a lot of noise to yell over. The unfortunate parts of our experience were 1. A dish was sent back for being over salted, it was the birthday girl's and she did not eat a full meal. 2. Poor service. The staff was nice but not attentive. We asked three different people four times to order a cappuccino. We asked to split the bill three times and it was acknowledged, yet it came as a single bill causing conflict with the group. The restaurant made good on the bad dish and served the birthday cake we brought without a charge. I would recommend it for date night but not for a group or special occasion. They just aren't attentive enough to groups.
Oh YUM! this Italian was amazing. The portions were perfectly sized and the flavors were amazing. I couldn't have asked for better food or service. They have an extensive wine and drink menu. Handmade pasta and design your own pasta plates...food heaven! I only wish there was one closer to me!
my 3rd visit , first review
excellent restaurant, making their pasta fresh every day makes them unique; the flavor and consistency of their pasta really shines.
as any great and popular restaurant , it can get noisy and hard to hear the person in front of you. The braised lamb shank was outstanding and the wine list is also very good. Great wine and Good price; we can have a great glass of wine without blowing up the check.
I will go back to this restaurant for sure.
